Please please please... if there is any chance of the game not going ahead on Saturday, please make your decision early doors and let SUFC know!

It's just over a year since we went all the way down to Leyton Orient for the cup game, only to be told in the pub next to the ground that the game wasn't going ahead due to a bit of frost.

I understand the weather down there isn't as bad as up here yet but getting across Sheffield is bad enough at the moment, never mind trying to get down the M1.

Ta in advance ;)

xxxx

You'd never have made the kick off at Orient if you were drinking in Luton just before the match!

Good point, well made :D

Edited.

In my defence, I was trying to shovel risotto down my throat while typing :D

One of my favourite away days oddly, given that we didnt actually play and I just took people round the pubs where I live.

I've quite often found the pub beforehand more entertaining than the match this season! :D

Looking at the forecast, it's a big possibility it will be off...

You'd think that they'd have time to prepare for this kind of stuff. Surely they've got undersoil heating and/or they can cover the pitch??

Thus said nothing would surprise me. There is going to be snow down here (London) tomorrow night and it promises to be blisteringly cold until mid January. I have to agree with Daz in that I think it will be touch and go if this game is on or off.

From next season, all Football League clubs must do everything they can to ensure that a game is played including ensuring that the pitch is covered prior to a game etc. Basically, the new rules state that a game should only be called off for safety reasons of the fans and not the state of the pitch with quite severe punishments for clubs that do not comply. If Pigs were stopping up that would blow it for them just before a derby game!

Heavy snow set for Wednesday night, light snow rest of the week, and it'll barely be above freezing so I imagine whatever falls will still be about on Saturday.

For anyone travelling from London incidentally, you can now use your Oyster card up to Watford Junction on National Rail.

Excellent news about the Oyster card. I think the match has a fairly decent change of going ahead as Vicarage Road has undersoil heating.

Even when the pitch is fine, occasionally Rozzers have the final say as to the safety of fans getting to and from the ground.

Whichever way, I'd just like them to decide early on :) It's easier to get back from Watford Gap than it is from Watford!

Not if you're going on the train via London:thumbdown:just means we'll have to have cultural experince in the capital's drinkling establishments:thumbup:

Good news about the Oyster. Thanks.

The snow rolled in last night in North london and there is more forecast for tonight. I have a feeling that this game might end up being called off. Even though Vicerage road has undersoil heating (or so Ghandi says) it's the fasn getting to the game that is the problem. If national rail, road, local train and tube services are all hit badly then they may call it off.

It's in the lap of the gods I guess .....

i can see it being called off. we're under a foot and a half of snow here just out of london with no public transport and snow still falling...

its my birthday treat- pleae dont let it be called off or I will have to go to Loftus rd on tuesday -grim!

Cheers for the updates guys.

I might issue a plea to Watford directly on Friday, see what they say :D

The car will be loaded up with food, blankets and coats just in case.

C&Ped.

Prospects for Saturday's Championship fixture against Watford at Vicarage Road going ahead rest entirely with how the weather progresses between now and Saturday.

Watford have today issued the following statement to their local newspaper:

"We will wait for this initial bout of snow to stop before assessing how the stadium and surrounding areas look.

"At this time we expect the pitch to be playable, however at all times our first priority is for supporters' safety in and around Vicarage Road.

"Any decision to postpone a game, that doesn't involve the playing surface, is made in conjunction with the Safety Advisory Group from Hertfordshire County Council.

"Dialogue is already taking place and will be regularly reviewed throughout the rest of the week."

I live about 2 miles away from Vicarage Road and the roads are quite treacherous. I also notice that all of Watford's offices are closed today. My money is on the game being called off.

Oh, and one of the train lines which serves Watford (London Overground) is currently suspended.

Cheers BB.

The sun's out up here, and as far as our roof at work goes, there's a little bit of thawing.

But still, t'pigs have called their game off already. I know Watford are probably desperate for the cash, but I hope they take the 300 mile trip into consideration that we Sheffield-based Blades are going to have to make if they call the game off at the last minute.

With councils supposedly running low on grit, I can't imagine clearing pavements so fans can get to football is high on their priority list.

So last week i buy myself a return train ticket over the internet to save money in not buying it on the day. Just my sodding luck that it will now be called off giving me an arse of a night journey some time in the future that I could really do without and losing the £15 spent on a train ticket.
What is it with this country and a bit of cold weather halts everything?? I teach near Reading and we haven't been back since xmas yet and are not scheduled to until Monday. Although the days off are pleasing, all the snow and bad weather hads been forcasted for some time now so why can't the country deal with it???!!!

And there's me thinking they'd want the revenue from ticket sales

If it did go ahead i cant imagine there being many sheff utd fans.

Oh no! Who will supply the thick northerners!

Does it even matter that they won't be there?

I would prefer it if the game was re-arranged to during the week so we don't have to bear the northerners on a Saturday afternoon!

If it is off I share your frustration. I have two advanced single tickets to London and Return which cost £15 and £22 respectively. However I can change the travel times for £10 per ticket and pay the difference for the new day of travel (which of course by tomorrow I'll have no idea when the game will be played) or lose the lot. I think I'll go to London anyway and sod the rearranged fixture at least I'll be able to get a refund on the Watford ticket next week.
