He's the sort with the hunger and determination to make a real go of it at PL level that I'd like us to bring in.

But signing him would seem a poor alternative to other midfield options.

I like it. I really think we'll need a couple signings of this ilk to give us room to manoeuvre elsewhere.

Additional numbers are required in mid especially cover/competition for Norwood now that Coutts has left (unless CW sees Lundstram as filling that role) but even though Valks would be relatively cheap (I would think!) I'm not sure he's quite good enough and Champ is probably his level. That said, if CW & co think he could do a job, I certainly wouldn't be against it.

If Utd are interested, they will have undoubtedly watched him multiple times but his performance including his sending off won't have done him any favours.

Sheffielder, exactly what I was thinking and IMHO no better than Lundstram who is already providing back up. We need to sign players who can go into the first 11 and strengthen the team...and if good enough turn some of our current first 11 into back up

So some think if injuries/suspensions resulted in 2 of our midfield being Lundstram and Vokes that would be OK?
Seriously? God help us.

Maybe if it was the FACup 3rd round, and we wanted to lose, they would be the ideal pairing

Young competitive / athletic midfielder with decent shot on him AND a long throw IF an alternative attacking option is required.
Cover / competition for both a midfield position and may possibly be seen as an alternative 'attacking' centre half??
If it's at the right price, wages etc. could potentially be a great signing for now AND the future.

I think hes a tidy player, from what i've seen. hes a different player to lunstram who plays in more of a holding position and keeps possession ticking passing sideways more often than forward.

Looks like more of a norwood who tries to play defence splitting passes and long forward passes. Has scored some absolute screamers as well.

7 goals and 7 assists in a relegated team is a very good return for a midfielder. Would have him over lunstram. For context norwood has scored 3 and has 8 assists.

I can see why some would be underwhelmed with this signing, but I think we may be guilty of underestimating how good this lad is. His stats are terrific, and several times last season I noticed that he was very high in the championship rankings.

I think a squad needs this type of versatile player. He's played as an AM, CM and RB... Plus I do think he could play the RCB role in our formation.
He's thought of very highly over at Rovrum.
I agree with the comments made suggesting we should be looking to improve on the starting 11. But I think we need to remember that we are looking at around 8 new players for next season. If 4/5 of those signings improved the starting 11 and 3/4 improved the squad... Then I think we would have done very well in this window.

Pretty much what I was going to say too. I was a tad underwhelmed when I heard the link to us, but then you look at how many goals and assists he got for a team that was relegated and he's 25, can improve, covers more than one position, can shoot from outside the box (something we struggle with) and has a long throw, which could come in handy in the last twenty minutes if we need a goal back, I can see why we're looking at him. I doubt he'd be a starter but someone to develop and he'd be a decent squad player. I doubt he'd be the right centre half we need though, I would imagine we'll be looking elsewhere for that; Mason Holgate perhaps or Tomas Kelas from Chelsea, who was on loan at Bristol City spring to mind.

Another thing on Vaulks and some might not like this, but our recruitment this summer isn't just for next season, if they're signed for two-year contracts or more it'll be important for the forthcoming seasons. With that in mind and accepting we might get relegated, we can't go blowing the budget on loads of expensive players with huge wages and big transfer fees We'd all love Canos, Maupay, McBurnie and Phillips, just to piss Leeds of in the case of the latter! But, realistically, we will only be able to afford one maybe two of that list and centre mid isn't as big a priority as signing forwards and an attacking mid.

I think Wilder will give Fleck and Norwood the chance to establish themselves at PL level and Vaulks will be in the mix, but crucially is one to develop and if relegated we know will likely impress at that level, because he already has. Of course, so has the list of players I mentioned but we can't risk signing too many at the fees they'll command because the existing wage structure would be gone and Wilder won't be given the funds to sign too many of that calibre of player.

Bad news tbh

Heard from a very good source at Rotherham that He is signing this week unless Cardiff offer more wages..let's hope they do

Would have Ok at best in the championship but Premier League ...he's nowhere near good enough ...and I mean nowhere near

Cmon Cardiff sign him up..!

I don't see the issue here. How many times have people whinged about our less high profile signings, for them to go on to be heroes. He's likely to come in as backup and seemingly can play in a number of positions. We need about 8 new signings to get a squad of 25 together, not all of them can be £10+ buys.

We certainly can't go with Vaulks as Norwood's only competition.

Signing a player like him at this early stage would seem underwhelming and a little desperate.

Some people think they know better than Wilder

None of this makes any sense. Why would signing Vaulks mean he's going to be the only competition for Norwood? (He's competition for Baldock too by the way)
And what difference does it make if he's the 1st or 8th signing?
Gerrim in... And get behind him... He's a blade!
