The Blades are going up

It made me cringe tonight listening to P&G when the first 2 United fans to call said they were sure we’re going up and looking forward to oremiership away games. Wasn’t quite sure if serious or tongue in cheek but there’s still so long to go till anything is a surity. Massive games coming up against West Brom & Leeds still, how we fare against those will be the real determining factor. Plus not giving away daft points like we have done at times this season. One game at a time, West Brom to focus on now
I had to turn it off

At least it pissed off the pig who phoned in after. He sounded almost suicidal , bleating on about how his team are finished.
I was saying on Wednesday night how depressing it must be to be a piggy fan at the moment being so far behind us these last 2 seasons. There’s literally nothing they can claim victory over in comparison this season

There are no givens for being second with x number of games left to play. We're doing fantastically well, today laid a line in the sand for the other squad members, and of course we sent a message to the other promotion chasing pack........but please don't think it's going to be given to us. We can come a cropper quite easily, so let's chill, applaud our manager for selecting today's team, and then let's return to reality.

Lots of games and points to be decided, so please, no stupidity or unwarranted arrogance. All it does is return to make you look like a twat when it returns to slap your face, but rest assured, we have the stuff needed to go much further than many teams around us, so enjoy today, then let's hope we avoid injuries, and with a little luck, who knows what can happen?

Let’s just enjoy it as it is and see what happens. I’d take a point next week and then anything could happen in the Derby. What a season, what a team and if it isn’t out year then it isn’t the end of the world and we go again next year.

It's 2 from 4 for me and I can't see past Norwich and west Brom who seem to be peaking at the right time
I just hope some of you aren't too disappointed if we "only " make the play offs

I'm trying to keep my feet on the ground but I must admit it's getting harder,
this team is streets ahead of last seasons.

true boss hog, and the same players have picked their games up...........eg billy is a much better player than this time last season - touch/positioning/strength........can't get ahead of ourselves tho - one game at a time please

In the past I’d have already regretted this before I’d posted it. And the superstitious bones of me are insisting that I make full body contact with wood while even thinking it. But there’s been a feeling around the club for a few weeks now, since we turned around our pre-Christmas slump, that is so reminiscent of 2016/17 in Lg 1. And now I’m starting to believe it.

Our result today places enormous pressure on Dirty Leeds. They are fragile and flawed. Apart from a horrible 10 mins v Villa, we look resolute and purposeful in comparison.

Fuck me, the Blades are going up
I think there will be a lot on here tonight making full body contact with wood

Agree, it does have similarities to the league 1 campaign where I’ve thought it’s like playing an FA cup tie against lower league opposition.

Away at Villa for long spells we made them look stupidly inadequate
Today against Reading it almost seemed too easy, we didn’t need to get out of 2nd gear.

Also normally I’d feel a bit scared/ nervous going away to West Brom, Sheff Wed and Leeds, but now I’m almost looking forward to these matches because I know we will put in a good display and have decent spells of domination. We will create chances, the result depends on how many chances we tuck away.

I think us and Norwich are the 2 best teams in this league. West Brom have big potential but are too inconsistent. Leeds can be strong but rely (more than us) on high tempo pressing/ workrate and I suspect they’ll tire and run out of steam.

Some folks are desperate to say something, just to be the first to say it. So if it comes true it bestows upon them some sort of gift of insight that others don’t have. It doesn’t matter how likely or unlikely it is. What matters is them saying it. If it comes true they see themselves as a prophet. If it doesn’t, they have usually detached themselves from that opinion well before, so they are not seen to be wrong.

Some will stick with that opinion until it eventually comes true. It’s easier to predict failure than success of course.

All I know is, we have a good squad of highly motivated players, playing some of the best football ever seen from a Sheffield United team. We have a very good manager. We are in a very good league position with three quarters of the season gone. We’ve played every team at this level and have not looked inferior to any of them overall. The signs are very good indeed.

Does this mean we are going up? No. Does it mean we’ve got a great chance of going up? Yes.

Will we take that chance....?

No idea.

But we’re going the right way about it. And if we don’t we should be grateful that we’ve defied significant odds in getting this close.

Well said Cerberus.

And I would just add that IF it doesn't happen, if we miss the autos and don't make it through the playoffs, if we come close but ultimately just miss out then we all need to remember what a fantastic job Wilder and his team have done. As hard as it will be we also need to ignore any crowing from that mob in the Northern suburbs, because whatever they say or think, we have assembled a squad in the last 2.5 seasons that would [in my humble opinion] comprehensively hammer anything they have churned out in the last 15 years, possibly more.

Great times to be a Blade and I am loving every second of it. This may be as good as it gets before the arse falls out of everything again [in accordance with the usual, and not completely unjustified, doom and gloom mindset] or it could be the outstanding sequel to 16/17 and the start of our ascent back into the big time.

We will see.

Very well said and for what it's worth, I agree. Take each game as it comes and enjoy the ride

I couldn’t agree more! It’s the sort of rather arrogant attitude you get fromS6. I have seen us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory so many times over the years or not turning up for the really important matches like the POfinals. Please don’t tempt providence. Hope I’m wrong.

naughty naughty!

the football gods are watching.....and waiting......

May I make a request, that the 05/06 season where we won promotion gets added to this chart? Would be good to see where we are in comparison to when we last got promoted to the prem
