I know its difficult to comprehend but I have mates who are of the blue and white persuasion.
We are forever calling each other piggy bastards and grunters.
The difference with Madine doing it to the OP is that he doesn't know him. That's not banter it's just insulting. Even if you have mutual friends.
I'm presuming it was a long time ago so it was probably a case of a young man with a lot of money being a complete arse in front of his little hangers-on.
"That was reyt funny that Gary when you called that pig fan a grunter, it's your round again"

This is what the Star should be writing about surely. I know it's not good on our club but people won't even come close to forgiving him without it being mentioned.

The longer it goes without anyone talking about it, the worse it gets. Not saying people directly affected would be inclined to cut him some slack but it would go some way to illustrating whether he's changed or not.
Sorry, what?

If I understand the post correctly bromtom is saying there's a newsworthy article here about the signing of Madine splitting the fanbase. I'm not sure this forum is representative of United's fanbase as a whole but this signing has definitely caused ructions, some of us are sticking by our guns a lot of fans have done an about turn from when it was a rumour to his signing, as pointed out by barney after holding a poll. A lot of people are using the 'trust in Wilder' justification, there's enough to write a lengthy article just on what's been posted on this forum in the last 7 days.

Have a like for use of the word 'ructions' :)

He slags our captain off. He's jailed for breaking one of our supporters jaw. He called me a piggy bastard and a fucking grunter while I was out with my Mrs. And I'm supposed to cheer for him and get behind him. Not a fucking prayer!
Fair play, that becomes a personal issue for you.

However, he’s done nothing to me personally and despite his reputation and character when he’s had a beer, it’s the footballer and the team I’ll support. He wasn’t a player I wanted us to sign, ever. But now he’s here he’ll do for me if he gets goals himself and gets the team goals.

Out of interest, what would change your mind? Do you hold grudges or are you willing to let things go eventually?

Can't argue with that in the slightest. Fair enough.

I also think it's fair enough that you posted your message. Despite a few Blades dismissing this message ("cool story bro"), I actually think it's a point worth making. Not only has Madine done what we all know about (the assaults, the Billy slagging off), he's done a lot around the city of Sheffield to p*ss a lot of people off. We all need to remember that.

The point's now been made, and we move on, but it's important it was.

I'm sure when I first started using S24SU I read about avoiding multiple threads.

Why couldn't this comment (which adds no more to the debate) have been posted to another of the numerous threads available.

Show some respect to our hosts.

Plenty of long time members have started new threads about GM. Have you berated them ?

An article on opinions expressed on a forum? Really? If all hell breaks loose and half filled fanta bottles rain down on him as he steps out the tunnel then fair enough, news-worthy, but what would be gained by stitching together and publishing a list of moans and he-said-she-said stories by pseudonym fans from this forum?

But will you still be counted in the attendance figures?

A lot of people oppose his signing but don't want to rock the boat too much as we've got our best chance of returning to the PL for ten years, when we lost the promotion play off in 2009. If Madine had been signed by Adkins and we were mid table in League One there'd probably be a lot more booing and vocal opposition.

I'm still amazed that this is a done deal, as it's splitting the fan base big time and causing Blade-on-Blade arguments. Just what we didn't need. It's like out very own Brexit.

Anecdotal (and court) evidence suggests that he regularly got pissed up in town with his hangers on, baiting Blades and occasionally smacking them. One of the cases landed in court, but I bet there were a few that didn't. The idea of chanting this cunt's name is abhorrant to me, but if he helps us achieve promotion I'm not gonna boo him. Hope we get rid at the end of the season though, whether or not we go up.

I mean talking to the bloke he hit and seeing what he thinks. Not just reporting on the random moaning online.

Think it's newsworthy even though personally I'm fine with Madine. Just appreciate others aren't and think it would help if it was discussed.

And Hitler’s birthday is the day Ched was sent down. Reyt spooooky.

Eva Braun was United goalkeeper Jims’ mother and like the Royal Family, anglicised her name because of the war.

Her brother was Werner Von Braun who’s son Duggie also played for us.

Michael Brown, although no relation, is the grandson of the Braun hair styling products founder.

Oddly, none of them represented Germany in the documentary “Escape to Victory”.

That. ^^^. He’s really not the type of person I want associated with the Blades but Wilder has done enough to earn our support, even if he does things we don’t like. It could be a grievous error but, IMO, he’s allowed one.

I was in the same boat, right until the point at which he signed for us and, from that moment on, he's a United player, end of. I still think that he's a **** and wouldn't want to spend time with him but I dare say that the same could be said about numerous Blades over the years, including some of our legends.

For me this is the bit that I can't get over with this signing.

Goading the fans, winding Billy Sharp up etc.....all part of the pantomime of football. Ex-pigs, we've signed plenty of them and they've been decent servants for the club.

We've also had plenty of 'colourful' characters on the books over the years. Don't expect footballers to be role models because they will disappoint you.

However, how would you feel if the club signed a player who broke your jaw purely because you told them you supported that club. A club you've spent thousands of pounds following home and away. The club are very quick to play on the loyalty of supporters and whilst that relationship will always be skewed massively one way is it too much to ask they at least address the issue?

The standard trope is "well it will all be forgotten if he starts scoring goals"....and it probably will. But that Blade and his family won't forget and will probably wish they'd never wasted years worrying about a football club that couldn't give a shit about them. Easy to write it off as just one person amongst a supporter base of thousands but isn't solidarity and camaraderie all part of what being a fan is supposed to be about?

Maybe the club has got in touch with the supporter, I also don't know if the lad was a regular at the lane or not but this seems like the elephant in the room and really doesn't sit right with me. .

Though history will show that Hitler was really a pig.

Yeah it would be stirring but I feel like it's necessary for a lot of people to feel like they can start to come around to him.

Was Madine 'welcomed' to the Lane at the Barnet match?
