Considering Williamson is injured and with no obvious big man cover for Hendo would i be worth bringing these two back from Ipswich as they have been told they have no future?

I guess the question is A Quinn or Howard / S Quinn.
I always liked Alan despite scoring for the pigs against us. He redeemed himself with the winner in the double over them. He was willing to put put his foot in and could pass the ball now and again.
On the down side he popped up and did things but rarely bossed midfield in the way Brownie and McCall used to. With Monty bossing more this season than I have seen him before this may not be a big problem.

Stead,
despite being a big lad didn't seem to play well as a target man he was better with his feet, as the goal against the cheats towards the end of the prem season demonstrated.
However he was a big presence up front and fought well up there as well as drifted wide when it was needed. Was a favourite but would never be a legend.

I always rated Quinn, ball at his feet running at defenders, he had some vision too.

Perfect description of Stan, a favourite, never be a legend, scored some quality goals, not a target man, but do we want another target man we are going to boot it up to??

Absolutely not and absolutely not. There are good reasons why neither player was a first team regular at BTDBL and subsequently same again at Ipswich. We need to move on from run of the mill performers like these two (I'm afraid I include Monty and Elpiton in that descrition).

An injection of real quality is needed, particularly in central midfield, not someone who 'can pass it now and then'! A couple of squad players from another (inferior) Championship club is hardly going to propel us to glory.

Let's raise our sights a little. It might even rub off on our daft manager.

Wahey, it's a crowbarred Monty reference from Pinchy.

Party time.

what he said

Quinn - No. He had his time and he moved on because he'd run is course with us.

Steady - Thought he was never used enough and never quite reached his potential. I always thought that he could've been tried in Central Mid alongside Monty... We've tried everyone else thats sh*te!

He wouldn't fit in our team as he's no good with hoofball.

Are you happy because you are stoned???

KB would have to be out of his mind to consider bringing either of those two back!?

It was also Blacke that sold them, so why would he want them back?

Stead is a quality player.

We should never have got rid in the first place!

Get him back, if the prcie is right.

I liked them both but we cant keep harking back to the past for players. (Brown, Tonge, Quinn etc etc.)

They are not here for a reason.

i would consider taking stead on loan for cover only but i wouldn't want us to spend on him have we looked at brownie again lately, New manager and wigan have 15 registered midfielders in there squad??

One of Robbo's final act was to sell Quinny. He had no hesitation in bringing back Bromby so who knows, we are short in midfield.

Mini Quinn is better than bigger Quinn though.

We do need another midfield and that is clear for everybody to see, but somebody with more strength and a bigger physical presence than A. Quinn would do the team a lot of good, probably somebody more along the lines of Seyi Olifinjana (ex Wolves and Stoke, now at Hull) he always impressed against us and looked able to pass aswell as being built like a brick

We are not short of poor midfield players. We have plenty. You want another?

I agree! But I wouldn't bring him back to our current team. He had a nice touch and some football skill, we're not that kind of team anymore. :(

Stead was a good player but just wouldn't fit in with our current team or tactics I think.

Quinn on the other hand was like a wind up car you'd get as a kid, he just ran in straight lines chasing the ball which had just bounced off him, poor control, poor passing, poor vision and more besides. I'd be devastated all over again if we signed him!

Short answer?
No and no
Not because I don't rate them, but because we need to move on. Whats next putting in a deadline day offer for Kozluk? Trying to talk Asaba back to the Lane. However I would like to see Brown back because even after 5 years away, he's still got more all round ability than our current central midfielders imo.

I'd take Stead back.

But it won't happen as Blackwell will never admit to being wrong.... it's a hard thing to do - not just for him.

do you reckon the countless managers that have released Stead after a handful of games will all admit to getting it wrong? If only they took advice from the wealth of knowledge on message boards eh?

:)

Countless managers?

I count 3.

Steadinho was released due to his wages, I don't think it was necessarily Blackie's decision. OK, he wasn't a regular starter under KB but generally made the XVI.

Steady started away at Huddersfield in the Cup and although he wasn't the only one was completely garbage and I think Blackwell finally lost patience with him, he didn't play for us again I think.

I think the point is that Steadinho has always got off to a great start at whichever club he's gone to (maybe Sunderland apart), then dropped down to the bench and subsequently moved on. The fact he's only 26 and the next club will be his 7th says it all for me.

To be fair to him though, it didn't help that he spent the latter part of his SUFC career on the wing. I really like Stead, the only problem with him re-signing for us (beyond Blackwell) is that we need a pacey striker, not a tall gangly one.
