Anyone genuinely know how much he was on?

So in my line of work I hear many bits of gossip, hardly ever related to the Blades so no need to post.

But I was told something earlier about George.

Apparently we have an option on his contract. his £12,000 a week contract..... we offered him £6k to stay but he declined. this seems ridiculous. and simply unfeasible.

Ive done some digging and can find nothing RE wages. other than he signed a new contract in 2016 when Wilder joined which makes me doubt the figure, Ive found articles where Wilder seemed really keen to move him on.

Two things that make think twice are this came from someone who should know, I mean board room level of a Football league club, One who enquired as to his availability and were put off. Also he was a real prospect, did we give him a big contract in the Adkins days?

Only passing on what I was told, fully expecting the usual kick back on this.

Dunno why Long is/was on but wouldn’t. £12k wage preclude him a loan move to Wimbledon?
(I guess we could be subbing a large part of that but still...)

Not £12k. Nowhere near

It’s a valid point but I guess the exact same could be said about Blackman coming to us. Whilst being paid a rumoured £22k pw..

I also know a coach at Wimbledon and few months back I asked him his thoughts and he was raving about him, I suggested he would probably be available in the summer to which he said they would love him but he’s way out of their league. Didn’t think much to it at the time..

I don't doubt it, he was the next big thing several years ago and probably had his wages hiked up. Shame he turned out to be rather shit.

My understanding was that there was a huge contract (£12K pw quite possibly) on the table when Adkins was there, and Wilder withdrew it before it was signed and offered a fraction of that amount. That's why Long took ages to sign it.

Do you know his exact wages? This fella is should really know who told me. Unless Longs agent is trying to get him a super contract somewhere.and it’s all sales/agent talk

This would make a lot of sense. The guy never stated when this was. I just said he was available and he suggested they had been there already and his demands were astronomical. Would tie in with the reduced offer too. Because I don’t see is offering him a deal at all now.. not with the GKs we have.

If it’s true and Adkins offered him £12k!!!! Jesus wept

Not exactly but I know what he was offered under Adkins, which was revised. That wasn’t £12k. From someone who absolutely knows! :D

“Rather shit”? Is that what he’s turned out to be? There’s a huge question mark over whether he’s better than L1, but he’s proved himself to be more than capable at L1 level.

Not sure any of our players were on that during that last season in League One...

It makes you wonder why Wilder has taken up his option year as clearly no one will want him let alone pay anything for him. I reckon non league beckons or maybe a complete change of career.......

When? Wombles are a poor side and get peppered with shots some are bound to bounce of his head etc. He was shit for us in L1 hence Simon Moore coming in.

Which explains the Wilder "if he wants to earn a few more quid up the M1, I'll take him myself" comment.

You don’t doubt that Wilder apparently made George Long one of our highest paid players? I do

Really? Must have been an off day for Chris. He can't get it right all the time.

Wilder made a point at the time which was along the lines of ‘we’ve offered him something, he can take it or leave it’, which also didn’t suggest it was a £12k a week contract. Good move to get him signed up though, now he’s showing that he’s more capable than some of our fans suggest.

I can exclusively reveal what they were on the season before...

When was he “not shit”? Plenty of occasions. That’s not to say he wasn’t much more than fairly average for us throughout his time, but certainly better than “he was shit”.

George would have been fine & come through his bad patch had certain so called fans not jeered & booed him. They are the ones to blame for George not fully achieving with the Blades. Nasty gits who relish being vile to a Pro footballer. They are losers & sad gits who gave harmed our club with this vile behaviour.

He wasn't shit but he was very mediocre.

Wasn't shit in my view, but I think had some limitations. £12k a week if true is bonky madness

I know for a fact he wasn’t and isn’t on 12k a week. In League one his contract was agreed and the good players there get 3-4K a week.

I still can’t forgive some of the senior pro’s and how they treated him at Gillingham away. He wasn’t doing well and in my opinion needed support at a very crucial time and not the lambasting provided.. as we are hearing they may be professional footballers and earn a relatively handsome wage but there’s a human under that exterior and confidence takes a long time to build back up once destroyed... a sign of those bad times perhaps...

I was told Adkins offered him 7k a week ,which Wilder reduced to 5 when he took over. Long decided that wasn't good enough having been offered 7 and looked elsewhere ,when nothing came up he decided to take the 5 ,however Wilder didn't like the way he tried to have Utd over and reduced the offer to 3 and a half which he eventually accepted. Not gospel ,but someone close to Utd who has been very accurate previously
