Evans wasn't that bad at Brum yesterday - as some say - he ALWAYS shows for the ball and did yesterday. The issue yesterday was how the midfield started - we in effect played 3-5-1-1. It worked for 20 minutes but then Brum took over the game. They were pretty awful and any decent team would have done them easily. At half time WE needed to step up 2nd half - except we didn't, it was brum that did and thoroughly deserved to win the game - as poor as side as they are/were.
Our wing backs as is now customary were poor yesterday and having 5 across the middle did us no favours. It's not as if Lunny/ Evans or Fleck got up to support Duffy and Donaldson - they didn't. Against Barnsley in the 2nd half Fleck was almost playing centre forward, yet Brum nullified everything we did.
As for the OP title "Lee Evans" - he had no one to pass it forward as we were 1 short with playing 3-5-1-1 instead of 3-4-1-2. Just staggered that CW started this way but we have had quite a few strange teams in the past few weeks.
One thing is crystal clear - if Coutts is fit for August - he's the first name on the team sheet and whether Evans & Fleck join him is anyone's guess.
We need to play smarter next season, that is for sure.
Birmingham deserved to win the game - but they are as bad as their position suggests. Once again too many average or poor performances, but I'd put Evans as one of the better ones yesterday.
