I was thinking that very soon, Kyle Walker will be picking up a Premier League medal and I started thinking about other ex-players that have won League winners medals.

There are two categories here ; those that played for the Blades and went onto win a medal, and those that won a medal and later played for the Blades, of which I'm thinking there are many more of the latter.

I'm thinking more post-war too as obviously we did the 1st Division ourselves back in 1898!

I'll start you off with an easy one........ Ian Rush.

Ian Rush - Liverpool 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1990
Bruce Rioch - Derby 1975
Brian Marwood - Arsenal 1989

Alan Wright played for Blackburn in the season they won the league but I don't think he got a medal. Nicky Marker was also there that season but did not play any PL games.

Tony Agana, Bobby Davison, Mervyn Day and Chris Kamara were all at Leeds during the season when they won the league in 1992, though none of them played enough games to win a medal. 3 of them played for us in the same season: only Kamara did not.

I hope I'm right in thinking Dean Hammond didn't do enough to win a Premier League medal with Leicester. That would be the travesty to end all travesties.

Agana was at Leeds in 1992? I thought he was at Notts County?

Being as how it's an international break, this could lead to a rich vein of topics....

"Players with big noses, who Unitedites hated for tosssing it off and not remotely putting a shift in"

I'll see your Ian Rush and raise you Phil Thompson.

I've got the winner. Nobody won more titles than this fella.

Herbert Chapman

Phil Thompson did....

It's odd that Chapman managed in the first two teams to win the league 3 times in a row but did not finish the job. He left Huddersfield to manage Arsenal after the second title there and died halfway through the second of 3 consecutive title seasons at Arsenal.

Incidentally, the illness that Chapman succumbed to was aggravated when he went to watch Wednesday play whilst he was on a trip to Sheffield visiting his parents which goes to show that watching Wednesday can be very bad for your health.

Aye, but Herbert did it with two different teams and left a legacy at Arsenal for much more success after his death.

He certainly did. it's a great shame that there's no decent biography of him.

I've read the Patrick Barclay one, which is pretty decent, but that concentrates very much on his time at Arsenal and has little on his time at Huddersfield, the dodgy times at Leeds City nor any of his playing career (which was very average).

He was sold to Notts County and then loaned to Leeds in early 1992, playing twice.

I don’t remember that. Any idea what the background was? He went to Notts County as their record signing just before we played Wednesday in October or November 1991, trying to keep them in the top division. How on earth did he then end up at Leeds on loan a couple of months later? Did he fall out with Warnock?

Paul Parker

bit of a stretch, but Harry Bunn (remember him?) was on loan from Man City to us the season City won the title.

I recall Howard Wilkinson was always a massive fan of Agana's. I also have a vague memory that he missed an absolute sitter in one of the 2 matches he played for them. Great striker until injuries took their toll.
