Stearman...

No idea what he is like off the field in terms of communication but, for me, he's a potential captain too.
Got us out of trouble more than once yesterday. Languid style and body language but efficient and good in the air with decent reading of play.
If he can be consistent over the run in he should be a candidate for the armband next season in my opinion.
(Like a centre back as captain (having been one myself) ;-)
UTB

Seems to improve with every game for my money.
Got to say I thought he was a bad buy when I saw him preseason, but fair play, he really does look the part now. Love his passion too, looks like he enjoys being a Blade.

Now watch him go drop a b*ll*ck on Tuesday!!!!!

Funnily enough, his languid style as you put it reminds me a little of Jake Wright. Languid but calm, and in the right place.

Yes it's finally here, I'll be the first to give Stearman some credit as he's been excellent in the last month or so.

Could've easily never worn a blades shirt again but Wilder's perseverance paid off despite much of the negative feedback.

UTB.

He had a shaky start in all honesty, be it due to nursing a knock or simply adjusting to the system we played. Since he forced his way back in he’s been excellent – the best of the three currently. You can see why he was one of Wilder’s top summer targets. Wright is a capable back-up, but Stearman for me does the organisation, but is better on the ball, and more of a threat at set-pieces. Can’t see him losing the shirt if he stays fit.

Stearman was great!

I’d love to see our record when Wright starts. ;)

The clean sheets are increasing at a rate of knots. :)

Was he ever in danger of not playing for us again?

Is it beyond us to give new players a few months to settle?

Is Pinchy going to have to come up with a new epithet?

Stay tuned...
I was told this many years ago:
Don't judge a player from one game.
Don't judge a player on his best game or his worst game.
Pre-season means nowt.

I am still in the 'Shaky Jake' fan club but credit where it's due, Stearman has been excellent recently. The priority is a settled back line, whoever that involves and at the moment Bash, Stearman and JOC in front or Moore is working well.

Don't know why he'd never have played for us again, he was alright at the beginning of the season before he got injured, but he really has kicked it up a gear recently.

Unlikely we'd have got rid, think he might be Wilder's most expensive signing.

I think Stearman has been superb in the last few games but to be fair, I think the defence in general has been much better recently. Also think Moore has been excellent and seems to have improved on last season. I wonder if after we lost at Millwall that Wilder went 'back to basics' and did a lot of work on our organisation at the back, because since New Year we've only conceded 2 in 5 games or only 3 in 7 after the Villa game on the 23rd December.

I thought Stearman was immense yesterday, up there with Baldock for man of the match. I will admit that I thought he looked nervous at the start of the season, but he has grown into the role and in recent months he has been outstanding. Yesterday he was absolutely first class.

Slated him for a long time but I think it's time I ate some humble pie. He really has been outstanding for us these past several games along with Baldock and Donaldson.

Yesterday with Stearman and Wright in the same team showed the vast difference in quality between them both.

Think it's harsh to say that it showed the vast difference in quality - Wright was playing at LCB which with the way we play is completely different to playing as the central defender of the three, which is where he has normally played. I think Saturday showed that it doesn't suit Wright to play there - he isn't good enough going forward with the ball, but he is a more than able deputy in the middle of the three

Skipper Stears. He’s a leader, an organiser and has the S2 essential - Pashun. The guy next to me on Saturday, who is no party to debates on this forum, observed there was only one captain on Saturday and it wasn’t Billy. Just watch him before during and after a game. He loves playing for this club and it shows. The others clearly respect him too.

That tank of a tackle at the Kop end should endear him, if nothing else.

Fair play to him. Knuckled down and despite a shaky start has really made the position his now.

Nothing will change the fact that IMO Wright did nothing to deserve dropping in the first place, but take nothing away from Stearman as for the last half dozen games he's been outstanding. It's his shirt to lose.
