Thinking about this at work ) in late 70s we signed Alex sabella and Pedro Verde from Argentina clubs, I was lucky to watch both but it came at a time when straight after Argentina won the world cup British clubs were signing argies ie ) spurs had ardiles villa. Then in 90s we had the Norwegians flo neilson and the centre half I forget his name after Norway's growing rep. We then had the Aussies in Carl veart and the big centre half who was a bouncer, after Australia were bringing thru loads of talent ie) viduka Kewell etc. We then had the Greeks Try dellas VA's borbokis and George donis after Greece Won the euros .. We had a run of young Irish lads from st pats etc , then under Clough we had half a team of Scottish players . there seems to be a pattern that when a nation does well in world cup or euros of clubs buying up the talent which makes me wonder why such countries aren't scouted before and in depth. Croatia who I have seen a lot produce talent after talent mostly midfuelders and strikers even at smaller clubs in there league .

Borbokis, Dellas, and George Donis were all signed late 90s. Greece won the Euros in 2004. Dellas and Borbokis arrived in 97, Donis in 1998 99 I recall.
Jonas Wirmola was Swedish not Norwegian.Just realised you mean Anders Jacobsen from Norway. You are right.
Dougie Hodgson once declared that if ever he scored, he'd have a wank on the halfway line.
He didn't do it on Boxing day 1996 at Bradford.

Belgian players seem quite popular at the moment. We were ahead of the curve there (1999?) - unfortunately the two we signed weren't much good.

And probably where we will start again - Belgian on the board Jan van Winckel and suggestion the Prince is looking to buy a Belgian team Beerschott Wiljrik, although that went quiet after the initial report.

Was it George Santos who was said to have a big Chopper?

Aymen Tahar came through the Academy and has played in the Champions League :)

I think we’re seeing two unrelated constants.

Firstly, we take risks on unknown players from other countries who turn out to be shit.

Secondly, countries other than England develop and eventually become pretty good at football.

We’ve had some fun with both along the way though.

Do we count foreign players we signed Fromm english clubs? If so GUUUUUUS who actually settled in sheffield before moving back to amsterdsm a few years back.

Oliver Tebily went on to be one of a back 3 at Celtic, Weir-Tebily-Scheidt. And they were.

Jean Calve i think his name was who scored the screamer past lonergan
