Just a shout out for our captain, his timing, his movement between defenders and his goal........brilliant.
Could have had a hat trick tonight.
Also the travelling blades sounded awesome on t.v. coverage.

I’m not quite sure why this is the only post on the topic, or why it hasn’t been liked more, but I’ve no doubt Tyler Durden will have a view on it.

He is not pacy. He is not aerially dominant. He may not be considered an ideal forward for this league. But my god is he an effective goalscorer. Take the opener tonight. There are plenty of more skilful players that wouldn’t have found that space – it looked simple, but if he isn’t in exactly the right spot it’s not a goal.

Add in the emotions for Sharp of it would have being his son’s birthday, coupled with his history of it being a former club, and what an evening for the guy.

His interview on RS before the game is worth a listen. States he was gutted when CW told him he would not be playing against the pigs.
If anyone had a doubt about his movement, just watch the Brooks/Hunt twist video to see who is first to his feet on the bench.

He gets better and better, never forget that Billy's drive kept us going when we were shit, there were moments when it was was only him up for the scrap, 10 players left him to confront the opposition player on he own.

For that I will forgive him anything, then he shows something tonight that is a class above, the boy is utter class, and you can't buy what he brings to our club

He's not just an an effective goal scorer, he is our leader on the field. Truth be told, he was already that before he was even made captain.
Do we have more technically proficient players in the squad? Yes we do. Have we had a more important player in the squad this century? No chance.

I started out supporting United with Dane Whitehouse as my childhood hero. At 32, I hold Billy in the same regard and I make no apology for it.

He was electric in the first half. He does what lineker did so well, attacking space, right place right time. Very difficult skill.

The free kick was brilliant too, shame he fluffed the line, but a good example of how energetic and enterprising we are, and so I agree he leads our team well, from the front.

Defacto club legend.

Bumping this.

Since the teams captain and top scorer has once again been ignored by most of the forum.
Much much more than a goal scorer.

Although a goal every 128 minutes pitch time most welcome !

I have a theory on this. He doesn’t fit the “profile” of an archetypal “UTD” striker in the eyes of many. Not physically dominant enough.

Big.
Bully.
Wi big muscles.

You know the type :(

Well said Durders ....(smiley thing)

Honestly, I've been critical of him a couple of times this season. But in true Sharp style, he's shut me the fuck up well and truly.

His best game of the season so far last night and brilliant last week against Reading. 6 goals is a very healthy return at this stage.

Keep it up, Billy.

thought he was a bit unlucky as the ball bounced up a bit as he prepared to hit it so he had to readjust.. he did well to get the shot off tbh

He was very intelligent with his output without the ball. Letting Clarke (whom was excellent) press the forward line, Sharp was holding the lines and positioning himself in awkward places to maximise Clarke’s closing down. The number of times Sharp was blocking a defender’s escape route when Clarke was forcing the issue, was too often not to be by design.

Second only to Sir Keith in the list of best goalscorers for The Blades since I started going in the seventies. He does miss a few but his movement and reading of the game gets him the chances in the first place.
With Clarke doing the donkey work and Duffy doing a grand job in impersonating Zidane, then 20 plus is a possibility this season and that might well be enough for a play off place.
Appreciate him, Blades history has shown that consistent scorers don't come along that often.

Great leader physically, emotionally and literally. Just seems to know where he needs to be to score and gest himself into great positions. Love him.

I wasn’t fussed when we brought him back but he quickly diminished my negative thoughts on him, we owe him a tremendous amount of gratitude if nothing else for his efforts, for our truly great club.

I thank you, Billy!

The reason Billy is so good is the same reason that Sir Chris is, and that’s because they are us. Billy is a Blade, he knows what we are going through just as the bloke that sits next to you all season knows it, Sir Chris know it in the same way the woman that sits a couple of rows behind you knows it. Billy Sharp isn’t the fastest, the most technical, the tallest, whatever, but he’s got the experience and the know how to get himself in the right place at the right time, and that’s worth a lot. I bloody love him, and you can see how much he loves being a Blade when a goal is scored, either by himself or any one of the team.

He's rubbish

Apart from the goal and the two sharp chances he nearly scored and all the chasing and link up play, he hardly got a kick ...again

Well...
I think billy is an amazing player.
He does'nt always get the credit he so richly
deserves.
Without him we are still in the pub league
and with him we are premiership bound,
No fukc off I'm not calming down! or keeping my feet on the ground
We are going up!

There’s nothing wrong with admitting when somebody hasn’t had a good game. And also, it’s right that someone receives praise when deserved.

Sharp has had games this season where hes hardly touched the ball. And conversely, there’s others where he has been outstanding.
For example, the game back from injury he was pretty much missing. Then the reading game outstanding.

Last night, as pointed out his subtle movement for the goal, and timing of his run for the save were brilliant. But as a goal scorer he will be disappointed with the chance he missed near the end of the first half, and that could have put us out of sight. No questioning his commitment or effort, it’s second to none. Always is.

But for me, of the two forwards, Clarke was the better last night. He caused them huge problems, and has added the work ethic and commitment to match Sharp. They both complement each other, and who’d have thought that when he first arrived.

See my theory, at post #8 !

My step dad is a Donny fan. Says Sharps build up play is 10 times better than it was. I hope we don't forget his importance to this era

Hugely important player to us and without him , We would prob have got relegated 2 years ago , would have probably not won the league last year and wouldn't be top now

His goals are vital and his effort and commitment is second to known , also from what I hear and read about him he is a top bloke and does a huge amount for the community also

Without him , Brentford and Barnsley games would have been draws and we missed him badly against Norwich

He may not play brilliantly every game but he knows exactly where to be and how to put the ball in the net, sure he misses a few but so does every player , if he didn't ever miss he would be a barca regular for years,

Here's hoping he can stay fit an keep notching them in and could get 20 and then who knows next year !!

Ever since I used to watch him.playing for our youths and he then went on to carve a career out for himself I have always followed his progress with much interest and wanted him to do really well (with the exception of when he played for the dirties)

Billy's a Blade through and through and a damned fine goalscorer and player. It just so happens that he's also always been my favourite. I make no apologies for my bias in this instance. Appreciate the lad whilst he's playing for us as it won't always be and we will miss the lad once he's hung up his boots.
