The appearance of CCV last night for his debut has set me thinking about the number of kids like him sat playing reserve football.

CCV has arrived with us from a great club, he's already paid very well and has as his manager one of if not the best manager in the premier league. He was on the fringes of the squad, but in reality unlikely to get a sustained period in a side hoping to win the league and do well in the domestic cups and champions league!

So he's come to us, a side in the north of the country that had arrived in a league below his perceived level having been promoted from league one. He could perhaps EXPECT to get in the side and play. Looking at it as a neutral, he would be expected to be a big player for us, simply because of who he is and where he has come from.

However, we know that isn't the case.
He hasn't come straight into the side. He's behind players who were league one players last season. He I suspect hasn't seen his arse and complained, he has got his head down and worked hard. He has been learning new systems, and learning from players who have come up the hard way.
Last night he played his first game for United, alongside Wright. A totally different type of player to one he might have partnered before. He's faced a side that played attrocious football that tests your physicality, as well as your mental toughness. Not forgetting having to deal with one of the biggest scum bag thugs in the game.
He's played in a modest crowd, but been roared on by fanatical supporters, yes they can be fickle and unforgiving at times, but the backing he will have got when he scored his first ever senior goal will probably give him a high he's never experienced before, and will never forget! He will feel 10ft tall.

So as he texts, snapchats, instagrams or whatever medium kids use these days to communicate with his friends, family and other "superstars" like him I wonder if those other superstars might be sat at home thinking...."I want a piece of that" as he relays the night he's had.
All of this can only paint our club in the right way to lads like him, he only has to say..."what a club, you guys are really missing out, you have to come here" and we as a club could become the preferred destination for many players like him.

Whatever happens, CCV will be going back to Spurs a much better player than the one that arrived here. And you never know, he could just decide that playing really is the be all and end all, I'm staying here!

Think it was telling how all the other players celebrated with him and were congratulating with him after the match.

He's obviously a decent guy and has settled in well.

As you point out talented player but unlikely to get minutes for spurs given the class they have. This loan is best thing for him and us - say he plays 20 plus games for us will do much more for his development than under 23s.

Think he'll make the odd mistake but will be a real asset with his size, ability on the ball and pace

The game he had last night, it will make Bash think...and Stearman too I suspect. All in all, real competition in the back line, and Wilder can have no concerns if he has to make changes. Did he do enough to keep the shirt??

this guy must be kicking him self or his agent....

Chelsea and Spurs are likely to be very pleased with the way we're developing their players. Which should mean them, and the other big PL clubs, will be minded to loan us more players if needed.

if we can get them both playing regularly and well, as Blackman as been, it will be the perfect advertisement to the premier League of where to send there good players to develop, they will know we play proper football, the future is looking better and better :)

Agreed. Good to have these options plus henegan too.

For me he did enough to keep it. I'm Not 100% sure that he's 'better' than basham currently - however I feel like his top level after some regular football is likely to be a cut above this league.

What's for certain is that all our options can do a job. Which we need with injuries and suspension or if we need to push basham up into the middle for example.

Suspect like last year all these lads will get regular football and starts.

Blackman signs for us when we go up - £4 million
CCV signs for us at the same time for 8 million.
We also sign Robbie Brady and Ulloa on frees.

Where the chuff would you pluck Brady and Ulloa from?

But at least he will be kicking his agent in some VERY expensive footwear.

"Aidy I'm going to kick you as I missed out on a wonderful chance at the Lane.
When is it convenient for you and where should I kick you?
Should I wear my Nikes or those crocodile soled brown things, that you said I should wear every time I sign a bigger contract?
Also, can I leave Sheffield station now as I'm getting some funny looks?"

That's assuming we stay in the championship.....

I believe Pochetino can be thanked for helping sell our great club to CCV

Very true SwissBlade he is a fan after the two cup games, said best atmosphere and ground he had been to, very flattering and no doubt wanted CCV to experience that to bring him on is experience in games had been a bit hit and miss in front of big crowds.

I think we will, So far not seen any evidence to say we are out of our depth and I think we will have a very steady and good season.

Consolidation in the championship is what we need and then grow from there, I am sure this will be how Wilder and Knill see it.

Ah, so you're a "consolidationer". I think we've seen the back of the "avoiding-relegationers" so you lot are next on the hit list ;)

Not ready to be a "lets push for promotion" just yet, might jump on that one later in the season if there is room on the bandwagon then. :D

No problem, I'll save you a place if you bring an offering of Portuguese tarts along!

Doesn't matter where the clubs want the players to go. We'd already agreed the deals with the clubs, still the agents seemed to be the deciding factor of if the player joined on loan or not.

I know, seems stupid how involved they are and how much the counter everything the clubs and players want, its all about the

It worked well for Huddersfield last year, Chelsea moved Izzy Brown from Rotherham to Huddersfield for better football experience and anyone could see the difference that he made to both clubs. Rotherham relegated & Huddersfield promoted

Wonder how long CCV's and Blackmans contracts are? If they both said they wanted to join us and "took their bats home" from Spurs and Chelsea how much could we expect to pay for them? Wonder what salaries they are on? Would presumably wreck our salary scales?

I think both sighed new contracts before they were allowed to go out on loan.

Blackman signed a 4 year deal with Chelsea and I believe 3 year deal in place with CCV, there wages would be a massive issue as I am sure even as youngsters they will be on very good money.

Agree...wages would be a big problem if say we were trying to sign them now.

However, in 10 months time, after a season in the championship, rising revenue and clever use of finances one of them could become a possibility.
What may work, would be a sale with a buy back clause. We give Spurs/Chelsea first dibs on any proposed sale and a pre agreed price, in lieu of us paying less of a fee to buy from them. And if they choose not to take it up, a large percentage of any profit we make.
