Stearman is better than Wright. Tufty thinks so too. RS will be back as soon as he's fit. We're moving on. Loyalty but not sentimentality.
I like Jake Wright. I've never said any different. But being a Bladey Cult Hero cuts no ice with me. I spent ten excruciating years knowing Montgomery was a training cone whilst all around me were seeing the fucking useless article as some sort of non-footballing legend. Then they have the cheek to go on about how crap Hammond was! Embarrassing.
Tufty has brought the impressive Richard Stearman in to lead his back line. That's what will happen. Remember what I said about Runaround Done, to much derision? What's he up to these days?

All this is nit picking over nothing , our team is developing as that , a team ,
Chris is trying to bring 2 players in for each position and forcing the players to perform knowing
the hook is waiting for them , don't perform as to how the fans ( ie me and these other 25 k )
fuckers demand , and theirs no sentimentality your out ,
We don't mind losing as Blades fans , once you leave it all on the pitch ,
we will know the better team won ,
we ain't deluded like the pigs , we ain't massive .
It feels good to be a Blade today .
J o'C, Bash, Wright, Stearman, CCV, Henaghan...
6 players for 3 positions. Now, I accept that it's good to have two players competing for every position, but it's starting to feel like we have almost too many players for central defence.
Similar numbers insisted how vital Runaround Done was to our success. .
What about having an impeccable record (unbeaten in the league whenever he’s started)? Does that cut ice with you? There’s a lot more than parochial, bladey blade favouritism at play when suggesting Wright should keep his place while he is performing as he is. It’s based on looking at how our back 3 functions as unit and the role the individuals play within that. Stearman may well be a better all round player (his CV suggests he probably is). He may, over time prove to be a better option in our back 3 but whilever we are on a winning streak and the defence is functioning so well, it would be foolhardy to change it just to accommodate one of your favourites.
No, they didn’t.
They merely offset an acknowledgment of his limitations with an acknowledgement of what he was bringing to the team (stretching the play, running the channels, high press etc.- all attributes which Mark Duffy in particular benefitted from greatly). I’d say very few, if any gave any indication at all that they thought he would be in our first team in the championship.

Yet when I correctly said he would be out of the team by January and gone in the Summer, Oh, how they laughed.
He was, and is, an aimless shadow chaser. That, of course, guarantees him legendary status in S2. A yapping terrier on a roundabout and a traffic cone. How proud we are...
Eight games and counting now in League One for the useless non-scoring striker....

Wasn't it you that said the team should be built around Done and that Billy was nothing more than a 'Bladey Blade' favourite?

I hate it when we lose , but if after a few minutes you can't say to yourself ,I mind losing. Even if we leave it all on the pitch. But I know what you mean. We won’t turn on the team if that happens. I was thoroughly pissed off with the outcome of the Middlesbrough game for example but couldn’t fault the lads’ effort.

well played lads ( like hull ) at Wembley that's when you know ,
At least they tried , and that's all you can ever ask for .
See ya in the Roebuck again Dane in October .![]()
Respectfully totally disagree.Wright is back up this season, the same as he was last season.
Last season he got his chance because of the poor performance of others, and the change in formation. This season he has got in because of injury.
Wilder is clearly a huge fan but he knows he has his limitations and sees Stearman as first choice. Wright just needs to keep playing well as he is doing in his own calm, steady way. However when Stearman is fit again I expect Wright will be dropped for him. Stearman is a better player, he is Wilder's first choice defender and he has the advantage over Wright of being more comfortable in possession which is key to the way we play.
It's no criticism of Wright, he is very much deserving of his place in the squad and his record of no defeats in games he has started is mightily impressive, but he is not the sole reason for that record.
Against Chessie last season , I met the great man in the Roebuck ,Roebuck?
Roebuck?
Except Wilder himself upon signing Stearman declared him as his number one target for the summer.Respectfully totally disagree.
Wright earned his place last season after that run of bad results and kept the shirt for the rest of the campaign.
And as for Stearman being a better player, I really don't see it. No one is a 'first choice', it's a case of earn your shirt and keep it and that's why we're doing so well. Stearman will have to show more than he did in the opening three games to get back into the team, he always looks to me like he's going to drop a bollock.
Against Chessie last season , I met the great man in the Roebuck ,
and thanked him for his service to our great club .
However if your in the vacinty v Reading ya can top up my empty pint pot mate .![]()
He also said that about Jamal Blackman, does that mean he'll start over Moore?Except Wilder himself upon signing Stearman declared him as his number one target for the summer.
I don't think 3 games (one in which he came off injured after 30 mins with the score at 0-0) will be enough to put Wilder off him.
Stearman is a better player, fair enough you disagree but the vast majority of people you ask will say Stearman is better and crucially as has already been pointed out, Wilder thinks so too.

Ridiculous is quite a strong word to use in this debate really, we will see what happens but I expect Wilder will put Stearman back in once he is fit again. He also said that about Jamal Blackman, does that mean he'll start over Moore?
And fair enough if you disagree but no one I've spoke to at Sunderland thought Stearman was better than Wright given what they've seen.
Whether that puts Wilder off him or not we have won 3 in 3 with Wright back in the side. Dropping him would be ridiculous and won't happen.
JOC is our next big money departure, not many around like him.
Not saying he isn't good enough he's a capable Championship defender I would though say that he's not as good as some people think he is and hasn't been for a couple of years.Ridiculous is quite a strong word to use in this debate really, we will see what happens but I expect Wilder will put Stearman back in once he is fit again.
We won 1 of 2 with Stearman and the loss was away to Boro! He's hardly had anything like enough time to settle in yet and be judged as not good enough.

Wilder's magic dust can do allsorts to a man though so we'll see, but personally don't see him as an improvement on Wright and that's that. If you do that's fine, just glad we have 6 good options for the 3 positions. Makes a nice change.
Funnily enough wouldn't surprise me to see CCV tonight.
More of a rest than a drop I suppose, and it could be either Wright or Basham. It depends on whether Wheater is fit really, I wouldn't like to have both Wright and CCV who are only 6 foot with the likes of Wheater, Beevers and Madine about who are about 4 inches taller. He's meant to be injured though so we'll see.In place of who though?
I suspect Wilder has got him to put pressure on Basham but on current form I can't see him being dropped.
Whenever he gets his chance he is a player I am really looking forward to seeing.
I think it was a reference to this;
Can I put on record that Tunstall Fred is a weirdo?
