I hope this move goes through for Matty it was ashame he didn't feature more last season, he'd chase the ball till the moon came out and always gave his all for the team and the shirt and never complained when not getting game time he wanted good look and I hope he's a regular next season ..

Rochdale fans also suggesting Done was at their friendly yesterday. Seems a logical move.

Don't get you pal. He's trying to get Brayford off the wage bill too.

Not going too well that one is it? I appreciate the way Wilder works. We have suffered terribly at the hands of profligate, irresponsibility by a succession of managers and I can't praise Wilder highly enough for his approach. Just thought Done wasn't really a huge issue and would have been happy to see him go on a free some weeks ago to the Millers or anyone as long as theyre then picking up all his wages. This supposed deal seems odd with that in mind.

He apparently had a four fold increase in wages when he came here and it was at the time that we were trying to buy promotion so I can see it being true. Any fee will go towards offsetting wages for the last year of his contract, awful signing, awful fee, never had a clue how to play as a striker typifies the daft deals that we have done in the past six years.
Thank good for wilder and the change in attitude he has brought to the club. Oh and we play decent football!!
Yes another good example of Clogh's very hit & miss transfers. In this case although he always gave 110% for the team he never seemed to have a position that suited him. Even Cloxze

Sorry didn't finish post. Even Clough did not know where to play him and I am sure we paid far too jig a fee and wages for what he was worth

Brayford has cost our club an absolute fortune

For the benefit of the club and Brayford, let's hope we can move him on

We're paying our fees and wages out in jigsaws? That explains a lot. :)

Been a slow burn this one.

Was going to Rochdale months ago...and still not done.
Wonder if this is Uniteds fault, Rochdales fault, or just the way transfers work sometimes.

Maybe we were holding our for another club joining in the bidding? Perhaps Rochdale are bidding way way less than what we want them to (could be both fee and salary BTW)?
Perhaps the player has expressed a desire to go only to Rochdale?

Either way it's a good move for him and for us. Free's up some space for us to bring in another striker.

Wish him all the best. Did very well for us in his first season but he's not what we need for this league. Appreciate his work rate and effort but it takes more than that and we saw that last season. He's basically a lower league player so this sounds like a good move for him.

I imagine they know what they are going to get with him and know he's going to come in for. I think he had a rise in wages so they probably wanted to hold off until the latest time to get it over the line

Matty has now left the building. Contract cancelled by mutual consent it would appear.

Think he was on semi-decent money for us so hopefully this should free up some budget

I'm pleased for Done. As has been said, first season did well for us and expectations were high, but there was no kick on, no improvement that would've marked him out as a player to watch. Never complained at his attitude and effort - something more senior players can sometimes learn from - but the talent just wasn't good enough. He comes across as a decent, nice, intelligent guy, so I hope he's looking forward wherever life may take him.....well done Matt UTB

Seemed a strange purchase; he'd had a good six months at Rochdale but paying the rumoured £750k and giving him a contract sufficient to make him a "millionaire" according to Keith Hill was a step too far. More strange Clough decisions.

Matt Done has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

The striker, signed by Nigel Clough in the January transfer window of 2015, made a total of 87 appearances for the Blades, scoring 17 goals.

35 of those outings came in last season's record breaking title winning campaign under Chris Wilder, with the 29-year-old scoring three times, the last of which came at Port Vale on Good Friday.

Done ended his Blades career by scoring the winning goal in last week's friendly at Eastleigh and leaves with the best wishes of Wilder and the coaching staff.

The Gaffer remarked: "Matt did really well for us last season, but he understood our decision that moving forward his future was probably going to be elsewhere.

"For everyone's benefit we just wanted to get this tied up to allow Matt to go and get a club and play some football."

Good luck to the fella (unless he comes up against us again of course).
Always gave 100% when called on from what I saw of him and never appeared to sulk when he became more of a bit part player.
Hope he does well for Rochdale, if indeed that's where he's off to.

Agree. He always displayed a good attitude and work ethic. No doubt we have come to a mutual arrangement in that we have bought out his remaining contract and he has taken a lump sum payment to allow him to move on and crack on with his career with a club he clearly holds dear. I believe that he still lives out that way so good for him on a personal level. Good move for all parties - hes not left kicking his heels and getting disillusioned whilst we have outgrown the lad and his abilities.

Good luck to the lad. He always played with heart and that goes a long way in my book.

Big thank you to Matty Done, played his part in a side that got 100 points in an amazing season. Always worked hard and his energy and style of play were pretty crucial at times.

Always put the effort in, just a shame he wasn't quite the player we hoped he'd be when we first signed him but then again you could say that for a lot of players whilst we were down in L1.
