So come on then let's have some guidance how you attract brilliant sharp intelligent people to work a few casual hours every other week for 9 months of the year? It's hardly a glittering career path is it?
I've said before that my daughter, her boyfriend and a mate's daughter work there. They are paid minimum wage, although Compass try to cheat them out of the odd half hour here and there. They are basically zero hours contract with no hours guaranteed and the occasional Saturday night events often go on to 1-2am. The team leaders are the same but paid a slightly higher rate with a guaranteed sum for each shift. I would guess the managers are on £20-25k per year pro-rata.
I agree Compass are crap but United have chosen to go down this low cost model to maximise revenue. If the beer and pies were cheaper and the staff better (i.e better paid), United would lose even more money every year, McCabe would have to fund bigger losses and we'd have even less for transfers.
I don't buy anything at the Lane and rarely at away grounds. I've yet to see another ground where they have the perfect mix of decent products, reasonable prices and great service. Two fifteen minute windows before each half limit the opportunities for a leisurely chat with the punters as perfect pints of cask ale are lovingly hand pulled, so get it elsewhere.
