Agreed! I think the signing of Sterman will definitely help signing others, as its obvious we are signing quality there.
Is he coming as well as stearman books? Another center half? Dont think I know him.

Has anyone had confirmation whether Holmes has returned to the UK?

Would be interesting if he has
A new user (sounded like a charlton fan) came on to say he was with them still this morming.

Yeah I am a Charlton fan. To be honest we don't really know what's going on with him either at the moment but he is still with the squad and trained this morning. My understanding is they are all returning home for the weekend and going back to Ireland Monday.

They are missing a trick there, the weekend in Ireland is the best bit.......

We'll still want Holmes and I can understand why.

But we shouldn't sign another attacking midfielder as well as him.

Brooks should be trusted as our right wing option, as a minimum.

Not a fan of using left peggers on the right wing unless his name is Lionel. Personally I hope this puts an end to Holmes because we're getting to the point of if we sell brooks that money will be used for Holmes. I would hate that

Close to signing a new contract with Charlton apparently. That means his value becomes even higher.

Maybe the club regret not paying a bit more. Our bids for him, Lenihan and Leonard have been nothing short of ridiculous to be fair. We make insulting bids, then when they get knocked back we up them very slightly. It's a dangerous game and it's backfired here.

Has it though? We probably need a centre half still and a Leonard type midfielder would be a great addition but do we need another small, technical, tidy one?

If Wilder wants him and we haven't got him I'd say so yes. Whether I or you think he'd be a good signing or not.

Was it a ridiculous bid that got Stearman?

Fans who think they're experts in transfer negotiations, deary me.

Perhaps the emergence of Brooks has lowered the value of Holmes to us?

It's very obvious to me that Holmes will go where the money is, he demonstrated that by going to Charlton instead of us and his ex-boss last summer. He's 30 so this contract, wherever it may be, will be the last significant one he signs and if he is happy taking home a grand a week more and staying in L1 with Charlton then let him crack on. He may have footballing reasons to be fair....stay at Charlton and remain top dog or move to SUFC, struggle and be a bench warmer.

He has been given the chance to play at Championship level for the first time in his career, he will not get that again unless Charlton go up this year. If Holmes wants to put money over ambition then do we really want him anyway. Destined to be seen as a lower league mercenary I fear!

Who know? Fulham wanted rid and Wolves didn't want him. We may have got him for a cut price.

At the end of the day if we don't get Holmes having only made offers miles under the valuation - that's trying to do it on the cheap, no?

How dare we make a comment about how the club does its transfers. How dare we say anything negative? We're but amateurs and not allowed to have an option. Deary me indeed.

Any chance you can tell me how much our bids were?

Would you care to enlighten us on what our bids were?

Fair enough, but he's getting on a bit.

Our last bid was 400k. Which is what they paid for him and he's since proven to be one of the best players in the league so he's worth more than that.
We bid around 300 then 400k for Lenihan when Blackburn want 5mil (agree that's ridiculous but just goes how far away we are on their valutiations)

No idea what our bid was for Leonard but it was less than what's Millwall offered and they were both rejected.
