Ours looks quite different than the Bayern kit though despite being the same template. In fact with our design it doesn't look the same template and does look quite unique.

Oh I like that. I like that a lot. Always been a fan of the black stripes between the red and white. Might even actually buy one for the first time in years this coming season.

Depends on how you define success and how long you've been watching United. If you can ever expand the definition of success to playing in the top division, it's somewhat different.

64 - 75 we were in white socks for every season except one. I can promise you some of the best sides we've ever had played in that era. OK, one relegation from the top tier during that time and it all started to go horribly wrong after the relegation of 75-76 (76 - 81 was all in white socks as well)

It's a great shame that some of our younger supporters have had to put up with a lot of lower league football since 1976 as we all have had to.

But older supporters will remember the great sides of the sixties and seventies that were dining at the top table ........... in white socks.

That's why we associate with them.

Taking everything you say, it wasn't the socks. That relegation that you rightly identify as the catalyst for decline 1975-6, saw the first ever Blades shirts with black in them, and the introduction of the black pinstripe...think on!!

Not for me I'm afraid. I like the red and white part and don't mind the thin black stripe. But black arms. sides and black and white shoulder logos to me looks crap, more like a Blades vest worn over the top of some miscellaneous black shirt. Not one I'll rush to buy.

Wasn't it more likely to be the introduction of inferior players? rather than a minor design change to the kit?

I know ! It happens to be my favourite shirt and I have a Toffs cotton version.

Over the past few years, I've started seasons wearing it to games then shit happens and I stop wearing it hoping it will change our luck.

I pretty much wore it to every game I went to last season though.

After 40 years the tide has turned, Chris has led us out of the Wilderness (no pun intended).

It's going to be OK, I promise you.

I like it a lot but I am a fan of white socks at the best of times and like others have said they ought to have been white this season to contrast the additional black it has.

I don't mind the black sleeves and sides (don't think we've ever had fully black sleeves before have we?), but its not as if its going to be a permanent change to this so I think I'll be able to accept this season's shirt and grow to like it even more.

Its another Blades shirt thats up there with some of the best IMO.

It's not in the bottom five worst kits we've had but not in the top five either. The black sleeves and sides spoil it.

Before you do that I'd check out the new range of SUFC lingerie that is being introduced to compliment it. Red and white silk panties with a black gash down the middle. £90. She might want some of those?

Happy the black is back - it's traditional IMO & no other English team has a thin black stripe next to the red and white - sets us apart from Sunderland, Stoke, Brentford, Exeter etc.
