I've just been browsing The Official Centenary HIstory of The Blades book and noticed that we appeared to have a break in fixtures after 5th of December, a home win versus Aldershot, and 2nd of January when we played Halifax Town.
There were a couple of friendly games against Barrow and Poole but no other league games. I guess one Saturday would have been for the F A Cup second round, which we failed to reach but can't see any notes as to why there were no other games.
Such a memorable season which I thought I could remember quite well, but I just can't figure this one out, it's going to be obvious once I'm reminded but could anyone help out, possibly one for Silent?

Bad weather I think, looking at soccerbase, there were very few fixtures across that country in December that year.

I was living in a flat on Psalter Lane then and we didn't have any running water for a month because we couldn't unfreeze the water pipes - it were bloody cold.

Went to nephew's birthday party that year on Dec 14th at the old indoor gym at the Lane. It was an enclosed indoor football area. Big freeze over several nights had frozen the water pipes, which had then burst by the time we got there. Instead of football, swimming would have been the only option, except that the water was icy. Event cancelled, had trouble driving back in the snow, and sister-in-law was delighted to see us come back with about 14 lads wanting to be entertained.

Was def down to weather ! I remember the Halifax game the pitch was like a padi field surprised the players didn't get trench foot ! Didn't Gary Brasil score that day .. 2-2 . Much better on re match at the shay on the grass banking basking in the sun & 5-1 or 5-0 win

Fucking well wasn't. Wall fell on me at The Shay, wrecked a brand new pair of jeans and left me a biggish gash on my arm. Happened after Kenworthy equaliser, a penalty.

Sheffield was under a foot plus of snow at times that winter. Desso or no there would have been no game :)

That winter was a stinker.

That winter was a bad one . Drifting snow was a real issue . Around us there were drifts up to 10 feet deep . Great fun was had by all ...... well all those at skoil at the time anyway :)

Got my name in the back of that book in the acknowledgements. Cost me £25 along with 499 others to help underwrite the publication as the club was unbelievably skint at the time.

Yes it was definitely the weather - I remember we had the match against Rochdale postponed about 3 times and when we eventually played it was like playing on an ice rink
Loads of Blades fans broke down a fence to get into the ground for free and Jeff King scored the winner to send us into raptures as usual that season we had more fans at their ground than home fans

That period from early December 81- Late February 82 was Baltic.
I'm a bricklayer we got laid off just before Xmas went to the job centre and got a job on the bins!

Does that make us two of the biggest bladey blades ever then? I've got a brick anall.

I have to say I went for the 'full house' and have my name on the subscribers list for "The First 100 Years"; "A Complete Record of Sheffield United Football Club 1889 - 1999"; "Sheffield United Football Club Who's Who"; "125 Years of the Blades"; and "Sheffield United The Complete Record". Can't resist getting my name down for a Blades book.

My brick is in the "Tony Currie wall"...

The Shay was the worst ground I'd ever been on, and then I went to Wigans old ground Springfield Park.
I followed some floodlights walking ( me not the floodlights) from the station and ended up at a rugby ground before realising my error. Felt a right t**t actually.

Elm Park (Reading) was a right hole as well. Halifax was probably the worst, though.
