Massively off topic but I also read a great quote from an Oxford fan today

"Wilder is the former style manager, although he does give trust to players and they respect him. But will that take him to the PL? Unlikely. No PL club will pick him up for a gig because he has an old-fashioned style which doesn't fit the modern game. His best chance is taking Sheff Utd there.
I'm sorry to bring up Wilder again but the contrast is very, very important. The Wilder era represents the old Oxford. A club which was constantly battling for survival, scraping by on average budgets, playing the percentages to scrape together as many points as possible. We couldn't even afford a scout for chrissakes. Appleton is the new Oxford"

This guy certainly knows his stuff.

Who here would rather be hit by a flare than a brick?

I for one.

Flare's are so old hate, everyone uses them now especially in Europe.
Now Bricks they are retro.
Being the dedicated follower of fashion I am Bricks everytime for me.

Roy: does everyone get the ads for foreign ladies with 'the view from', or is it targeted only at those of us you assume are lonely old men?;)

No idea, it's done by WordPress. I'm gonna start doing my own I think next year as I may as well get paid a bit if Wordpress are gonna put ads on it anyway

For the record I get Betting adverts when I log out and look at it. Swear I haven't won a bet since Steve Kabba scored against Ipswich in 2005

The last comment made me laugh when they call us backward and northern. We're not that many miles more Northern than them and backward? Jeez. Already used my pot kettle image too many times already this season so won't use it again.

When idiotic numpties seek to defend throwing gas canisters at opposition fans, or anyone else for that matter, "backward" scarcely does it justice...

Do it Roy, as I said on a previous thread, I'll gladly click a link a couple of times a week if it gives you a little something for all your work. I'm sure the majority on here would too. It really is appreciated.

Cheers. I'm gonna look into it pre season. I dont want adverts all over the place and turn it into a shit Bladesmad. I'll let people know if I do it and get some feedback

I agree with that too. Port Vale/Burslem is very backward but so is throwing a smoke bomb. Both smack unintelligence and naivety.

Perhaps you could submit it to the new statesman or private eye

I thought Oxford was a city of learning? The intelligence obviously hasn't reached the occupants of the football ground. Wilder has taken a poor, demoralised squad and without spending millions has turned it around completely. Critically he has taken players who were floundering under previous managers and he has revitalised their careers. Playing progressive attractive football, I think it is fair to say that this Sheffield United squad has blown the rest of the division away. CW has made brave team selections to rotate the squad and also shown tactical intelligence to change games where necessary.

Lets compare that with an Oxford team who currently sit in 10th place a mere 31 points behind Sheffield United. An Oxford team that have been comfortably beaten twice by Chris Wilder's side. Appleton has the reputation he thoroughly deserves whilst Chris Wilder has positively advanced and improved every club he has managed.

The oxford fans bitterness towards Chris Wilder appears to know no bounds, but quotes like the one above show a complete absence of footballing knowledge. Appleton or Wilder? I don't need to do a poll on here to know which one we would rather have. He is one of our own and he is the progressive intelligent manager who is taking us places!! UTB's

Thanks Again to Roygbiv, it is the highlight of my week reading those.

Funny how every flare that gets thrown into a set of fans 'hits a kid'. Didn't see any kids in **** corner as I like to call it. If he did hit a kid I don't condone it, but he must have some aim to hit the smallest target in the crowd, get him plating for Yorkshire.

Yes some of them do seem bitter indeed.
