The most recent one I think of is probably Lecsinel Jean-François for Haiti, and of course Ched Evans for Wales.

Its not surprising that there are a lack of present players representing their country considering our league status, but it would be nice to see a handful make it as long as they don't get injured. The most likely at this stage is probably Kieron Freeman for Wales, if he keeps this form in the Championship next season.

(If we do go up one thing that is annoying is the sodding international break affects championship clubs calendars though I'll have few complaints XD)

Can anyone think of any others who have played internationally whilst at the club over the past few years?

As an aside Maguire is well overdue a call up, hope we get an appearance fee of sorts

UTB!

Lafferty, NI standby list at the moment.

Li Tie, China - if he played one international, that's more than he played for us!

I know, not very recent but......

Hadn't noticed Lafferty, its funny out of all our starting 11 he is the least glamorous and is probably the most dimly viewed by our fans, though obviously well regarded by two very respected managers.

Was brought in a minimal cost, keeps the balance and shape of the team well and rarely puts in a shocker, I think he's been very solid and wouldn't look out of place for NI. It is frustrating when he does get space that he can't deliver more but its not really his job IMO, though hopefully after the Rochdale goal that will start to change.

Another consideration is the better that players do at international level the more attention they will get, though I don't think we'll have to worry about that yet, unless Fleck makes it for Scotland based on possible form in the Championship.

I must be one of ths few Blades that actually saw 2 of our players playing international football and in the same game , both as subs , but on the same pitch Paddie kenny , and Alan Quinn .
Also saw Ned kelly a few times along with cameo appearance by Alans younger brother and of course our soon to be star striker Connor Sammon .
Saw a Blade (s) at Irelands game v Holland they beat us 4-0 , the old landsdowne road ground .
But to far away to get too .

Over the next season or so I would expect Fleck Scotland, Freeman Wales and Lafferty to all get international recognition. The most recent international is probably Ched as others said. Can't see him ever playing for Wales again to be honest. 5 in 24 for Chesterfield is still very much jury out on whether his comeback has been a success or not.

We had that Canadian international (David Edgar) on loan from Birmingham last season or the season before? I remember the hype surrounding having a full internation defender at this level however I didn't personally rate him that much.

Then there was Marlon King?....When he came to us he was still representing Jamaica internationally?

In recent years though it has mainly been the youngsters, we haven't had that many active "full" internationals.

What will it take for the jury to make a decision? Ched's legs to fall off?

Strachan told Jamie Murphy that he was being monitored for the national team, however he would need to move into the Championship in order to be looked at in more depth and to get his shout. At the time this was said to have turned Murphy's head a bit hence his requested move and eventually move to Brighton.....Despite playing fantastically of late for Brighton, he keeps missing out and is yet to break into the international set up.

I think the same will apply with Fleck......Strachan picks his team from regular championship players bare minimum and for Fleck to get a call up he needs to be a "Starting XI" player in the Championship.

Lafferty has fallen out of favour with NI but if he has anything in his favour it is that a good few NI defenders are now coming to the end of their international careers which could open something back up for him if he could prove himself and establish himself in the league above again.

As for Freeman, in my opinion he is the least likely to get international recognition. We rate him but over the last few seasons he has fallen down the leagues and there are several players in front of him in the pecking order.

Did K-Mac get any Scotland call ups? Were Barry Robson's international days behind him when he joined?

Got strange looks at Landsdown Rd when booing Alan Quinn who came on late to make his debut v Australia in 2003

I saw Brian Deane play 2 of his 3 games for England.
In Auckland & Wellington v New Zealand.
I wrote an article about in for Flashing Blade.

Strachan should have been sacked along time ago . Another manager who is past his sell by date .

Says something to me if Murphy cannot get a game .

Fleck would perhaps get into the squad if we were in the championship , but Scotland are woeful .

Freeman , no chance .

We've had plenty with youth honours

George Long
Louis Reed
Che Adams
DCL

At senior level we had David Edgar last season.

Jonathan Forte has represented Barbados and Lyle Taylor has represented Monseratt

Whatsisname left-back, who came from Everton as part of the Jags deal. Was he still in Scotland squads by then ?

No, no, and no again. Murph was swapped for the Desso. Keep up ! :)

As well as those mentioned above, in recent years we had:
Keeeeef - NI
CKR - Turkey
Akinbadbuy* - Nigeria (1 cap pre Blades)
Paul Ifil - Barabados
and of course....

Jags, Cahilll and Kyle for Ingerland

* Following on from the 'worst striker' thread all Ade's faults were put to one side for that goal at the Stadium of Rust - official 'Blades Legend'

Are you thinking of Sicknote Wagethief?

In three years when there are about 160 games available, our 'star' left back who we didn't need, managed 79 games for us.

At £20k per week, plus pension and NI, that chuff probably cost us £4m, and people still ask "where did all the money go?"

That's the chap. Though Sicknote Wagethief is a bit harsh ? He was into his thirties (?), on his way down, but pretty steady for us, I felt, when he played ?
