usually a poor month for us February. we started it in second place a point behind Scunthorpe , at present we are top 5 points clear now
played 4 won drawn 2 f 6 a 1 8 from 4 games is our 2 per game quota

everyone said prior in many threads this was a big time to get through and a result against Bolton will make it a cracking month overall

We need to stay calm and calculating about our needs

Who is we ?
Are you referring to the people on this forum ?
If so it doesn't matter a sweaty fuck how calm and calculating everyone is
Not everyone sees themselves as a self appointed internet cheerleader

For me we have to go all.out to beat Bolton, we fucked up against brizzle and scunny so I'd rather see us take nothing from that match than draw again. We need points not optimism, and were gonna have to go the extra mile to get them. Use the bench earlier for one, we've quality there that would be certain starters for most other teams in this shitehole of a league.

Seriously are you for real?? We had your 2pts lost/weakened side bollox, despite losing no ground to either of our main challengers in both games. Now your trying to advocate giving 3 points away on saturday to our main challangers for automatic promotion in favour of no draw. Im, shall we say rather pissed at this time mates birthday. Wtf is you excuse for actually typing that fucking drivell, unbelievable Geoff

So you'd rather see us lose than draw? Interesting view!

why get so upset over being positive about us having an unbeaten month winning half drawing half
thats 2 points per game
we do that in march and april be happy enough

thats the calculating bit

I dont get why some get worked up over being positive
sorry its not my bag to invite failure, embrace what might go wrong like some
or treat draws like 5-0 defeats

So we have 'quality' on the bench, who would be 'certain starters' for most other teams in this league but when we play those players (against Bristol Rovers) you kick off about it???

Was waiting for that one!
We should have started with our strongest team. We .may well have an extra 3 points if we had.
We got where we are by not giving a fuck about the opposition, you score 3 we'll score 4. Seems now were playing more cautious and its not working.

Ive told my workmates if we are still in the top 2 by the end of Feb we will do it, thats looking safe, just think 3 points from Walsall, Fleetwood, or the Gills game id be even more excited, however its the blades way to make it as difficult as possible. UTB

We may have also not been so sharp and up for it against Scunthorpe had they not got the little rest on Tuesday.

And how is it not working? The draw against Bristol Rovers would've been a good result even without resting players, their previous HOME games leading up to the game against us were:

Bury - W 4-2
Coventry - W 4-1
Wimbledon - W 2-0
Northampton - W 5-0
Swindon - W 1-0
Bradford - D 1-1

That's 6 wins, 1 draw out of the previous 6 home games scoring a mere 17 goals (2.8 goals per game).

The HOME League Table has Bristol Rovers in 6th with 32points from 17 games (Blades have 36). The away table incidentally has Scunthorpe 2nd with 27 points from 16 games (Only the Blades have a better away record).

I'll be surprised if Scunthorpe can take maximum points there on Saturday.

The old saying goes "win at home, draw away"... Over 4 games that equates to 8 points. That is what we achieved. The two 'dropped' points were against the team in 2nd place and the team in the best home form at present.

Take a look at the Home/Away tables. Really interesting those little old facts - http://www.soccerstats.com/homeaway.asp?league=england3

Love your username by the way!!

it wasnt a case of worrying about the opposition but not over stretching some players
and Chris looking after our players
all , thats all teams these days make use of their squad
very very few play 46 games
in fact 36 is nearer the norm

How could we have an extra 3 points? We got 1, most we could have is an extra 2.

Yeah my bad there, extra 2.
Guess we'll just have to see how things pan out and hope the dropped points don't cost us.

its not just the blades way
23 v other teams who all want to get points off us , no teams going to go , you deserve to go up here have all 3 points
we will go up
we will win enough games out of those left but, we will draw some and we will lose some
like every other team has before us
we could have 4 more points , conversely we could have had 2 or more less
we are unbeaten this month
surely that was plan A
A plus was to win them all but you cant plan that, its too easily broken

I'd rather see us win every game, but logic dictates that simply isn't going to happen. On the way up the A14 to Peterborough I'd said that 4 points from that game and Brizzle would set us up nicely for the two key home games and anything other than a defeat in those would be palatable. If we draw against Bolton it's not the end of the world, we're still in prime position for promotion with an easier run in than others.

Nah then Knowsy, we'll have none of that 'my bad' street talk on here buddy!

You've seen the age poll. Most of us think that even saying 'cool' is just long haired bloody hippy talk and let's be honest, you are 83. ;)

knowsnowt said:

every game has 3 possible results
WIN preferable where possible, as 3 points are awarded
DRAW acceptable away , or getting something from a losing position, and far better than losing as you get a point
LOSE least preferable option , especially when you need points as you dont get any at all

Shit!

Now I get it.

Thanks for explaining that 3 points are preferable and I can see where I've been going wrong all these years. I guess it's a case of me not seeing the woods for the trees or something.....

was helping out knows nowt , whod rather lose than draw , for some reason
thought going back to basics was required

Putting an opinion across without resorting to Insults makes me a tool?

No. Saying you would prefer to pick up no points (and thus meaning we are in a position whereby Bolton would be able to pass us by winning their games in hand) as opposed to one point (which would mean they couldn't) is what makes you a tool.
Obviously I'm assuming you have a basic knowledge of mathematics and I apologise if you haven't.

Blah blah blah.

A win would be great and if we can get it I think we've got one foot in the Championship

But a draw will still be ok. It takes two points off Bolton as well, we would still be top of the League and even if Scunthorpe win they can only get to within three points of us.

Defeat would be extremely damaging, the three teams behind us would certainly be closing in for the kill if we lose this game.
