Went to see it last night and was really enjoying it as fitting sequel to the original.

Great camerawork, funny lines and some superb music. They'd just played one of my all time favourite songs; "White man in Hammersmith Palais" by the Clash and then the scene changed to........

...a montage of Gerge Best.

It was okay to start. Bestie in a Hibs shirt and the character waxing lyrical about it. Then of course THAT clip came up. George-bastard-Best scoring against us at OT to knock us off the top of the League.

Couldn't enjoy the film after that. Danny-bastard-Boyle, Irvine-bastard-Welsh, Ewan-prettyboy-MacGregor, Ewan Bremner - TWATS the lot of them! *

* Robert Carlyle gets off with it, due to playing a Blade in the Full Monty with a more than passable accent.

They never fail to squeeze it in! The thing about it, it wasn't even a world class goal. I wouldn't have it anywhere near the top of a great goals compilation but it gets played and played and played!

It just goes to show how prestigious it is to score against the SuperBlades....even for the great George Best! Personally, I take it as a compliment! UTB & FTP.

There isn't that much footage of him though. Not like if he played now.

Is it based on the book 'Porno', which was the literary sequel to Trainspotting?

Irvine Welsh has a soft spot for united and we get (sometimes obscure) references in most of his books.
Unfortunately he also has a soft spot for West Ham so cancels itself out.

I love the Clash ,my 2nd favourite band of all time ,Give em enough rope is my favourite album of all time ,I have virtually everything they have recorded including Jones and Strummers work after. I saw them about 6 times and it was the biggest disappointment everytime ,I thought they were poor live compared to other bands at the time ,it didn't help that they attracted loads of wankers who weren't really interested in music, it was good to say 'I was there' but truthfully one of the biggest let downs in my life was the Clash live.

The Clash are one of the bands I wish I was old enough to have seen live in their pomp. Their performances look incredible in the film "Rude Boy" so i'm surprised to read this. Goes to show that you can't tell from recorded footage what the event was actually like. Blur look utter shit when you watch them on TV but i've always found them to be excellent live.

Enjoyed Trainspotting 2. I was actually a bit nervous beforehand as I wondered if it would it some way impair the first one but it was a really good, if different, film

No. That film was a fucking disgrace. Even in his own words he said it was shit.

That, and WSC were low points for our club.

Fuck Welsh/Boyle/anyone. Cunts the lot of them.

A gentle comedy with a Blades 'hero'? It could only be you or Pinch posting the above.

I suppose it was MCCabe's fault it was a disgrace? If only it had been funded properly and they hadn't wasted money on that special Desso canal.....

'Gentle comedy'?

Gash storyline and blokes taking their clothes off, with shit 'Sheffield' accents.

It looked like it had been made by the Children's Film Foundation as well. There's 'quirky', and there's 'cliched'.

Wouldn't mind going to see it but I'll have to wait until it's available with subtitles...

I assume you are being facetious about our Caledonian brethren and their pronunciation skills.

Being the helpful kind of chap that I am, the Showroom cinema (Paternoster Row/Shoreham St) has subtitles on all films on Mondays.
Closest cinema to BDTBL and it is a charity.

Thanks and I've dug a few more of your critiques from the Jack Tar Cinema Blogs.

Wonderful life - Cliched, low budget black and white drivel and who wants to 'feel good'?
Shawshank Redemption - Crap Ohio accents and predictable prison breakout
Godfather - Brando dribbling and mumbling, gash storyline about the mafia
12 angry men - 12 poofs more like, gash and cheap with all the scenes in the same place
One flew over the cuckoo's nest - Cliched post Nam gash with no Sheffield accents
Leon - cliched gash assassin with bad foreign accent. No blokes taking clothes off and Natalie Portman is too young
Pulp fiction - gash gashery with predictable OTT deaths, some blokes with no clothes but in a predictable cliched way
Dark Knight - Blokes putting tight clothes on in a gash way, cliched
etc etc etc

I can't make it, I'm afraid. And no, I'm not just being a dick about the jocks - the gf is a non-native English speaker and so struggles with strong accents.

The thing is there wasn't a load of camera's in those days. The clips of Best are the..er.. best we've got unfortunately. I know a Man Utd fan who says he has seen him do things with a football that most pros these days could only dream of. Just a shame we don't have more video footage of him.

Full Monty was fine, but When Saturday Comes for me was an abomination of a Football film. I thought a low point was reached making Sly Stallone a fucking keeper in Escape to Victory, but it was equalled in this. Sean Bean is a decent actor, but this was an ego trip for him.

Film? I thought it was a fly-on-the-wall documentary about one of our great players? Jimmy Muir?

Who is the first favourite Sitters?

Didn't see The Clash as a unit. However, have seen 3/4 of them play. Mick Jones in Big Audio Dynamite (Leadmill about 85), Joe Strummer (RIP) and his Mescaleros (Leadmill about 89) and Topper Headon guesting during the encore for Dead Men Walking (literally walked in off the street in Folkestone, asked and Slim Jim Phantom let him have the drums - White Riot was excellent). Just waiting for Paul Simonon to play or paint nearby to complete the set!!

The Skids ,all about timing really ,I followed them about all over the show ,loved Adamsons guitar work (still do). I thought they were different from all the other bands with Adamsons open string guitar playing and met them any times after gigs. 3 brilliant albums ,that was it but Big Country and the Buffalo skinners were also great and the Armoury show not bad. Real shame Adamsons dead ,he was my icon but going to see them this summer for certain.
