Chris Wilders quote

So you've seen him play well for the U23 yet you still choose to get a dig in? Some supporter.

I still think he is a wate of money and nowhere near mobile enough and I'm not alone in that.

I made the point clearly that I didn't know his dad had died and apologised for any offence. An apology is a mechanism whereby if you are sincere, you can withdraw a previously made comment and admit you were wrong. I don't suppose it will catch on though.

Oh here we go,im a bad supporter now for wondering how much Hussey cost. Its my opinion ok i dont require or need you're acceptance.

Thought we paid 500k for Moore?

Also the quote is meaningless once you factor in wages. I am sure Clarke and Hussey are not on nothing.

We have still spent a fair bit of money but not just on one expensive player.

Good, we'll certainly need to save money for next year IF we do go up - cos good players don't come cheap in the championship anymore. We might find the odd bargain but for the quality we need to add to the squad to consolidate you're talking around £4mil minimum - imo.

People will cite Barnsley as an example where that hasn't happened but their squad is different to ours in that theirs is very young with potential to grow, we don't have many players like that. In all honesty over half of our squad are at their peak now and this is their level.

We had some young players but we sold them.

No, you're a bad supporter for having a needless pop at a fringe player on a thread about how well we have been buying.

It's "your' acceptance, HTH.

We had some young player but we sold them.
Very very true. We're going to need to sign a top forward to go up with us if we're going to stay up which will take a chunk of our budget.

I think the TV money we'll get in the Championship is more than £4m so it's achievable. The wage bill will go up but we do have some out of contract at the end of the season so we can put their wages towards it. Plus, we'll probably sell someone like Whiteman and may get some sell on fee from H.
I think we'll be OK with CW providing people understand it probably won't be easy and don't start twatting on about back to back promotions or challenging for the playoffs.

And what type of supporter "you" has a go at Leon Clarke and mentions his dead dad in the same post,12 months after he had died, and then grovels an appology out because he says i did'nt know he had died................it was all of this forum about why Leon had a mega loss of form at Bury, and yet you good supporter and smart lad that you are, say's i did not know.

Forum spelling police member,,,,,,,,,,,,,shakes head.

That quote is possibly a bit disingenuous but that shouldn't take away from the fact that we have bought well. I'd imagine that we've paid £300k for Lavery but Moore's deal reportedly could rise to £500k assuming a load of criteria are met.

From reports and rumours:
Lavery: £300k
Carruthers: £250k (6 months left on his contract - he'd have been significantly more otherwise)
Moore: £249k rising to £500k
Hanson: £150k
Clarke: £100k
Lafferty: £50k
Hussey: £10k ("nominal")
Fleck: free
Wright: free
EEL: loan fee - £?
Riley: loan fee - £?
O'Shea: loan fee?
Hammond: £350k pay off

We are probably paying Adkins now, however as Clough is now working that should have gone or only be a slight % we are still paying. Managers generally get compo until they get their next job and then the difference is made up from their old club (if their next wages are lower)

I think we definitely had Clough and Adkins on gardening leave, Clough started his new job after 6 months and obviously Adkins is still out of work because he's been found out, but reckon he has had a 6 month block on working whilst we paid him. In real terms though we've probably paid them 2 years of their 3 year contracts, which is effectively still in the accounts somewhere.

I apologised as it was the right thing to do, not knowing his dad had died. I visit here intermittently(more recently), but if you don't believe me there is not much I can do about that. I know my apology was genuine, so your suggestions to the contrary are water off a duck's back.

It's not about 'spelling', it's about understanding. 'Your' and 'You're' have different meanings and are not interchangeable. I thought it might help you to improve your posts and so have a more accurate pop at me in future, but obviously not.

When you read the following quote from CW, it makes it all the more remarkable as to how and why he's took us to the top of the league.

“We’ve not paid over £300,000 for a player"

I accept that in this league that sort of money is probably seen as the norm, or even top end, but I remember Wolves a few seasons back and I'm sure Wigan last season spending far more than we have on players.

It's not just the recruitment, but the way and the speed at which CW has turned a broken team from last season into a team that has a completely different mindset this season

Regardless of the end of season outcome, he's a winner!

It's very misleading though.

Under the new Bosman era when a player is on a free or almost out of contract
then a good percentage of the notional transfer fee is added to the wages.

Coventry City offered to make Fleck their highest paid player.
But our wage offer to Fleck blew them out of the water.

On the back of promotion we have momentum (if we make it) yes we will need to recruit but what Chris has built can be used to push on next season not putting pressure on by saying we should but momentum is a big thing if built on shrewdly with the recruitment necessary.
We acheave back to back with Harry
Without spending big bucks, championship is a tougher league now but building on what we have with some quality young players coming through is essential
standing still is not an option and Chris knows this.
The kind of football we are playing is way above league 1, I don't think it
impossible to have a go next season.
The club wouldn't be under the kind of pressure we are under in this league, so a relaxed squad of players with the right improvements could have a go. Chris recruitment has been brilliant there's no reason that can't continue.
I await to be shot down in flames!!!?

you are aware the average age of our 26 man squad is 26, hardly decrepid
http://www.transfermarkt.com/league-one/startseite/wettbewerb/GB3
we also have more than half of that squad thats played at championship level , or higher

the youngest squad is coventrys , most 1st team appearances , speaks volumes

You're a bad supporter for mildly criticising a player on the internet..... Jesus Christ that's pathetic.

But as for the fees, I'd say O'Connell was the most expensive up front, at close to 300k. Moore will be the most expensive if we go up with it rising from 240k to 500k. I'd say Lavery was around 100k.

Even the fees from player sales that funded these signings were too low - to get only £2m combined for DCL and Ramsdale is pitiful. So it's not like those sales made recruitment easy for Wilder.

If we go up then McCabe owes Wilder massively because he will have done it on a reduced budget from the terrible season prior. I bet deep down no one at boardroom level expected promotion this season. Wilder's shown up our previous managers big time.

It's not impossible but it's very unlikely and the players won't be relaxed if people start expecting them to win promotion again.

The kind of football we're playing isn't way above L1 or we'd be ten points clear of second place. We're no better than any of the other clubs that have won automatic promotion since we've been down here.

Not decrepid but not young like Barnsleys squad which was the example I was using. All I was saying is we will need to spend when we go up to stay up, we can't try and do it on the cheap or there's a very real chance we will end up back where we started.

again there is a lot of championship experience in this squad dont forget theyve com from the pigs brentford wolves middlesboro etc , some have had plenty of championship experience
including our leading scorer
we havent been recruiting from below much

edit
just looked at the championship and our average 26 is one of the youngest squads compared to most in there
http://www.transfermarkt.com/jumplist/startseite/wettbewerb/GB2

all the top 6 have older squads than we do

I'm not too sure you will see spending on the level of our noisy neighbours, not until we are established at least anyway. Hopefully CW's ability to spot a bargain, allied to judicious use of loans will help to consolidate us, then we can push on.

One thing we should be able to do if we go up is get some really good loans.

Coventry City offered to make Fleck their highest paid player.
But our wage offer to Fleck blew them out of the water.

Wouldn't be surprised if Fleck is on a relatively decent wedge, as we got him in on a free, but it will be within our new limits...

Who knows what Coventry were offering what with their re-structering and the whole Sisu business...it could even have been a wage cut or a small increase for Fleck who was their longest serving player with all that that entails...they've only got kids left playing haven't they?

Great bit of business by us.

Would that be a coco pop at you

We pay very well in this league and are without doubt the biggest draw for any genuinely aspiring player.

We aren't interested in players looking solely at the present (money they will get now) we are interested in those players who share the same vision of hard work and reaping rewards for that work further down the line. We pay fair, some like Fleck and Carruthers might have been able to get more money elsewhere, but were drawn to the ambition and manager over a quick return.
This says to me they are in it for the long haul with a genuine aim.

I can see Fleck being with us for at least 3 years as a mainstay of the team. I can also see him playing in the premier league and for his country. Whether that is with us, we shall see.

But just goes to show what most fans have been saying for many years. There are good players out there, you don't have to spend millions if you are prepared to work hard and invest in your scouting network. As we go up a league or two, we might want to improve our foreign network so we can utilise the important foreign market. I'm afraid we won't meet our goals relying solely on players from the home nations.

Careful ISC, he may suggest putting his cock on your nose. He's done the same to me, a bit odd I know, but it seems he thinks that by putting his cock on your nose it somehow suggests conquest. Vive La Difference!

And I wouldn't want us to spend £10,000,000 on Jordan Rhodes - but if a fantastic player comes available for £2,000,000 I'd expect us to be able to get him. We've heard plenty of noise from the Prince and McCabe about 'when we go up' so it'll be nice to see what happens.

Trying to survive in the Championship on the cheap is how we ended up here.

Although now we have the prince on board apparently he will be "game changing" in the Championship.

I agree Danny, hopefully soon enough we will be up there and we can see how things play out.

Agree, there DOES seem to be some good talent in the lower divisions. Wilder and Knill will know them all, so don't be surprised if we target the cream of league 1 and 2 next season.

Take Leon Britton, played for Swansea in league 2 and he worked his way up and looked comfortable playing for Swansea in the PL. When he played for us he looked a poor player. We sell him back to Swansea and all of a sudden he looks an excellent player again.

My point is the manager is key.

A good manager understands what players fit his system. He gives them clear instructions and plays to players strengths. Round pegs in round holes etc.

When Duffy first joined us he looked very ordinary
But now he knows he knows his role he looks a real talent.
Couuts always had ability but was largely ineffective because he played a different game to his team mates.
Now we have midfielders who are equally comfortable on the ball in Duffy, Fleck and Carruthers it's brought the best out of Coutts.

James Hanson had loads of critics at Bradford but his strengths give us something we've not has all season, so although Hanson has limitations it should prove to be a great buy for our system. In another team Hanson would possibly be poor and could end up a failure.

O'Shea: loan fee?
Hammond: £350k pay off

This makes me think, people speculate about transfer fees all the time and yet loan fees are almost never talked about. I have no idea what the going rate is on someone like EEL.
