Been today, great performance on the whole, really dominant. One grumble though, as it always seems to be, is Matt Done. He's simply not good enough when playing up front. He misses 3/4 clear chances for every goal he scores and always seems to be offside. Throughout this run other players have chipped in with goals in games he's missed sitters. Hopefully now Clarke's back on the scene Done will be dropped.

Whilst i agree that Done isnt the best forward in this league and is probably replaceable at some stage, i also think that he is a real pest for the defenders and by the time he is taken off he has really helped to tire out the oppositions defence. Then when we bring on the subs such as Leon or Lavary on a visibly tiring team we should be able to really benefit. Dont underestimate the work Done does and the way he softens up the opposition. I would probably have Leon as a starter shortly but he also looks good as a impact player too.

Understand your point dillis but if you were the manager and had to make these decisions isn't there an argument for keeping the feel good factor within the team and using the subs. lavery and Clarke and the others will get their chance because of injuries, suspensions and ( if) the form of the team takes a knock, I think I would stick at the moment,

Wilder has talked before about the value Done brings in stretching the game by keeping defenders busy - today, with Chesterfield defending so deep, we didn't benefit from that part of his job. He's missed a few decent chances, though I thought the first one today may have been down to being out of touch after injury (and to be fair, most of the team had shown poor touches in the final third before half time). The chance in the second half seemed to bounce up and hit him on the knee - he should have done better and he has done on other occasions this season. I wouldn't write him off just yet.

I was just about to post the same.

Done is doing fine, he's working his socks off and whilst not getting goals, he's doing a job for the team.

Done isn't a natural striker, he makes a fist of it through sheer work rate. Hassling defenders, drifting into space and confusing his marker(s). The openings that he creates with and without the ball compliments Sharp and Sharp is banging them in at the minute.

It's becoming quite apparent some fans are totally blind to the importance behind Done's inclusion in the team, tries harder than any player we've had in this God-forsaken league and actually has significance. Will never slag the guy personally, love the lad.

Maybe for a striker his scoring record has been somewhat questionable, but we've scored 14 in 3 games without his goals, where has all the greed come from lads?!:D

More like 13/14 missed chances for every goal!

If Wilder can drop Scougall for Done, then he can drop Done for Clarke next week, that's for sure.

Agree Done isn't a natural striker BUT his work rate is phenominal.

Wilder seems to be modelling us on Klopps hi energy style at Liverpool.
Defenders tend not to be good on the ball having poor control, especially at league 1 level.

So Wilder appears to want strikers that chase down the ball when their have it.
When a defender has no time they tend to just lump it into touch or lump it up field losing possession.

So it wouldn't surprise me if Wilder really rates Dones contribution as he might be the secret ingredient to our success . Anyhow it doesn't really matter who scores as long as we're scoring.

Yes, ok ok ok, we get it Pinchy et al. He isn't your classic forward. We all by now should know his history and how Rochdale converted him. BUT, he has shown in the past that he can score goals. BUT, after our shit start the move up front worked and has contributed to this unbeaten run. BUT for him we would have been reliant on a very unfit Lavery and Clarke AND in the Tufty scheme of things of high pressing he gives the team something that Clarke won't and can't. Please give it a rest. When he is deemed surplus to requirements I am sure Tufty will know what to do.

You don't remember where Done went after Wright was substituted Herbert, and Clarke came on, which, in my eyes was a game changer. Could you have done that with Scougall?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion! (as was stated in my post last week) We won 4-1 granted but still we have faults and should look to strengthen in january or we will get relegated! Jokes aside. Done will not get the goals, however hes such a pain for defenders and his pressure surely opens play for our goals. Wouldnt change a thing about united at the moment. UTB

At the start of the season it was Scoogs , freeman , and coots , who a lot of people wanted shut of , but guess what in training where the manager and coach see them on a daily basis , they showed faith in the players , and the players repaid there loyalty and the benefit for the team is there for all to see .
Done seems to be a lot of people's fall guy / scapegoat at the moment , he works his socks off for the team , putting the other side under pressure forcing them into errors and tiring the other teams defenders out , so our impressive subs bench can come into its own , Clark today for example .
I would like to see him score more , but at the moment it benefits our team in the position he plays
I'll leave the decisions on who plays and where to our manager , who at the moment isn't doing a bad job .

I'll support the team and leave the team selection up to CW , he see's them play almost every day and at the moment Done starts.

That's as may be but apparently Pinchy, who knows more than Chris Wilder, told us months ago that Done is useless. Think he told us David Weir would come good as well but let's keep that between the two of us shall we ;)

We have alot of goals in midfield so have a second forward who is firing them in isnt as important as it normally would be, i think done's energy and pressure lets the midfield push into the middle where they can get the goals.

Nowt like puttin a debbie downer on a good day :tumbleweed:

No detriment to him as a player, I think he offers a lot to the team and his work rate is brilliant. Just my opinion that if we can get someone in with a similar workrate who can actually finish then we'd be even more comfortable. As for picking faults? more of how we can improve moving forward. Something else I was conversed with was the wingback delivery when they get into open positions unchallenged. When Clarke get back in he won't be scoring many headers if the deliveries don't improve.

Something's just occurred to me:

1.Tries hard.
2. Runs around a lot.
3. Bladey favourite thanks to numbers 1 and 2 above.
4. Very little ability (no problem; this is S2).
5. Gets a special job description - don't bother about scoring goals, Mr. Striker.
6. Chases shadows relentlessly but achieves next to nothing.

It's all becoming so clear. Why didn't I think of it before? My Lords, Ladies and Bladey Blades, I give you:

Natt Montdonery

Done's work rate is phenomenal. His endless running creates uncertainty amongst defenders, stretches the backline and leads to bigger gaps between opposition defenders and midfielders, giving our midfielders more space in more advanced positions. Without Done against MK Dons, the midfield was congested and we seemed to be playing at a much slower pace than with him in the team.

And for the first time in ages we have goal threats elsewhere in the team, so there isn't as much emphasis on him having to chip in. So he's a player who works incredibly hard, is a headache for the opposition and creates opportunities and space for team-mates. Why any of this has to be "Bladey Blade", god only knows...

I don't think it's a case of picking faults after a 4 - 1 away win, it is about enjoying the win, the run, the attitude shown while also looking for ways to improve. You can be sure Wilder is doing the same.

Done does do a good job of pressing high up the pitch but he has had his one season of scoring goals and that purple patch seems to be over, his chance to goal ratio is shocking.

Next lesson: How to say "tries hard" in a hundred different ways...

Ah Monty...

...but he gives 110%.
...phenomenol work rate.
...never say die attitude.
...covers every blade of grass.

And of course the Monty classic (and for me still the best)

...he works his socks off.
