Louis Reed turned 19 just 3 months ago and starred for England U-20's in two games recently.

He is a small man but a big player, one of the best young lads I've ever seen at Bramall Lane, age for age.

There is a lot of doubt about the lad because of his size and I've just looked up a list of random names that came to mind when I saw that his height is 1.73m:

In the order that names sprung to mind :

Curtis Woodhouse 1.73m
Stuart McCall 1.70m
Stephen Quinn 1.67m
Alan Quinn 1.75m
John Gannon 1.75m
Joe Shaw 1.73m - centre half!
Willie Carlin 1.63m
Leon Britton 1.65m
Nobby Stiles 1.68m
Paul Scholes 1.68m
Keith Edwards 1.72m
Alan Hodgkinson 1.75m - keeper!
Bernard Shaw 1.71m
Tom Cowans 1.73m
Messi 1.70m
Maradona 1.65m
Aguero 1.73m
Danny Rose 1.73m
Paul Beardsley 1.73m
Gordon Cowans 1.70
Mark Duffy 1.75m
Billy Sharp 1.75m

Size doesn't matter. This lad can play.

Certainly hope so....maybe next season eh?

Before most games there are two players in the Family Stand who will chat and allow photos

Last match Basham was there

Lewis Reed has done his duty there ..... he is tiny, suprised me how small he was

The height doesn't bother more the fact that he's lightweight, doesn't get stuck in and doesn't seem quick either. On the other hand, his range of passing seems good for his age and he has time in his side. Can't see him being involved this season barring a spate of injuries

Still think Reed has a good future, when you make debut at 16 it's not unusual the progress slows down, most at 19 wouldn't have tasted first team.

"...Willie Carlin 1.63m..."

I assume "Wee Willie" was wearing platforms when they measured his height? The picture of me with him in Majorca looks like a giant next to a Hobbit

Not a giant, a cave troll.

look good first few games when he first broke through. Average at best whenever he's played since.

I predict Reed has peaked and will find his level in League 2.
He`s more than old enough to be holding down a place in the first team as Hughes has for years at Derby.
Reed isn`t strong enough or fast enough and his passing isn`t close to Coutts level.
Sorry.
It`s a no from me.

To be fair, the whole team was an average league 1 side at best when he did actually get some regular play time. What he really needs to do is knuckle down & show what he's made of. He will get a chance with Wilder & he needs to take it.

Personally I think he's got the basic attributes of a good ball playing central midfielder. He doesn't have stature or electric pace, so positioning would be an area he really needs to improve on. He's got time on his side & the only way of coaching positional sense is in game, so hopefully he will get a chance sooner rather than later, either here or out on loan.

Think that counts as a whoosh mate

Not sure what your point of a 'whoosh' is, Scougall being 1.70 is capable of heading the ball, just like Reed he's small in height, hence the point of Scougall scoring with a header...

Hasnt shown hes good enough at first team level yet
Needs to go out on loan

To where? Non league perhaps?

Don't forget this is Division 3 we're in. If he can't cut it here then he's probably not good enough for professional football?

Biggest load of utter shit I have ever read. His selection for England finally proves that England really don't have a clue what they're doing. The run of (undeserved IMO) starts he got under Clough, where he didn't play very well at all, is still what they probably lazily looked at in selecting him, naively thinking he was doing well to get starts in a Sheff Utd team at such a young age. It certainly wasn't based on any up to date evidence as Chris knows the crack with him and doesn't even think he's worth a spot on the bench.

You have to be really really good to play at the professional level with a schoolboy physique, and it seems Reed is nowhere near that good.

I never understand how people can get so irate about a player they've probably seen play, what once? Twice?

The fact that you are seemingly overlooking the substantial run in the team he got under Clough makes me think you weren't watching him then? Lol, you never cease to disappoint.

Size doesn't matter if you impose yourself.

Reed's M.O in recent appearances for us has been to stay on the periphery of the action. He hardly gets the ball, and he can't win the ball.

He doesn't merit a place in the side. Who would you leave out? People know I'm no Coutts fan but look at the facts - we are winning games with the current midfield. Don't fix what isn't broken.

And I will never understand why people talk about Hodgy and Shaw's height. That was 50 or 60 years ago. A 5 foot 7 keeper would get killed in the modern PL.

That first post means fuck all to me.

What's 1.73 in real money? He looks about 5'5" to me, is this about right?
1.73m is five eight so unless he's grown since I last saw him, I doubt he's that tall.

5'8". Borderline midget territory. I'd say he was about 5'6" so somewhere around the 1.67m mark. Either way, he's at a height where ability needs to be exceptional to compensate and at the moment it's not evident.

Sorry was that back when you were pretending to have a season ticket?

I forget when that tall tale started.

Precious little evidence the OP, as It stands, is anywhere near accurate.

He is only 19 as you say, and overall improvements are likely.

But the improvements will need to be significant and rapid if the player, and more importantly the manager, sees a future for himself with us.
