Former Players Updates

Flynn could never maintain a wholehearted approach when he was with us, it's no surprise he can't show it at all now he's stepped down to Oldham.

One of many players who knew it was never going to get any better for them than it was at United.

It doesn't appear we've made a mistake letting any of them go.

Flynn played about 1 good game in 5. He was lightweight and only seemed to play well against crap soft teams. He did well in the cup run but overall his contribution for United was limited yet I seemed to get scathing criticism for my honest take on what he offered (or did not offer).

Was not bothered one bit about any player we released/moved on. Including Adams and DCL.

Still think we need 3 or 4 quality players in January with pace up top, a ratter in midfield and a left back still. Possibly another winger too.

Can we have constant reminders as to how Slew,Howard and all other bad memories are doing?
Just so we don`t actually generate positive, forward thinking in line with what Wilder seems to be slowly achieving?
God forbid we actually look positively forwards.

A bang average bunch of reviews for a bang average bunch of players...with JCR being the exception.

As frustrating as he was sometimes, he was fucking superb on his day and the only one of that bunch I have any shred of affection for. Always gave 100%, and sometimes as a spectator there's no better feeling than seeing your winger bamboozle some daft cunt into submission, which I saw him do a few times.

Hope JCR plays for a few more years. Good luck to him.

I think that because he had actually watched United as a fan last season, Wilder knew exactly what he was doing when he shipped this lot out. Although Flynn I would not particularly knock too much over his 5 years at the Lane. He was what he was, and had a few memorable moments along the way - scoring at Villa away, in the FA Cup Semi Final etc.

Just goes to prove that it wasn't a case of bad attitudes, just a bunch of bad players. Flynn was a terrible lightweight, a poor man's Cotterill, and what a pussy he was so not sorry to see any of these fuckers do one.

McEveley: Prone to Brain farts. Correct
Fynn: Anonymous passenger: Correct
McGahey: Clown, costing points. Correct
Cuvelier: Injury prone, not a winger. Correct

I'm glad to hear both Howard and JCR are doing well. I thought Howard was perfectly adequate up until his injury (Which maybe he's over now.) and I thought JCR tried his best and more often than not looked a threat.

Overall, fair reviews I think.

How is goal machine Sparky doing?

2 starts, 2 from the bench.

I don't think I need to tell you how many goals he's got. I think you know.

His barber thinks he looks dashing though, so every cloud...

I tend not to be overly concerned with former players, unless of course they were heroes. The odd one will have some success now and again but ultimately there is a reason why they are not Blades anymore, and that reason is because they were shite.

Great roundup. I hold my hands up in saying I would have been just about ok back in May with McEveley and Flynn being given new (though reduced) deals – looks like that would have been a bit of a mistake based on those views.

I'm so glad none of that bunch of cunts play for us any more.

Don't take it for granted what an amazing and ruthless job Wilder's done clearing out the rot at this club since he got here. How many players in this current squad do you think are dead weight and that we're carrying or at the very least don't have a strong potential to become good players? Maybe 2 or 3. Last season there were literally about 19.

Yes, really.

In his first season for us in the league, he conceded 9 goals 19 games. A very good record, and at the time a refreshing change from Simonsen & Long.

I could never understand the criticism he received ok he wasn't up there with the best keepers we've had, but he was never as bad as some made out on here.

Thank heavens we did a proper clear out and didn't re-sign that lot.

I'm a JCR fan but I'll gladly do without him if the cull also includes Flynn and Cuvelier.

I was always disappointed that Cuvelier never lived up to expectations. Before injuries he was a real prospect. Would've been good to see that.

How's Murphy getting on? From my passing interest, he seems to struggle to hold down a place in the starting 11. He was the main man here.

I'm glad we are shot of:

McEveley - living off his name
McGahey - not good enough
Cuvelier - Too injury prone

I think we were right to get rid of:

JCR - good player on his day but getting on.
Howard - undeserved criticism at times but not we've identified a better keeper

I would have kept:

Flynn - he can frustrate but he also has the odd goal in him and is a useful player - more than useful when on song. He would also be excellent cover at right back, meaning we wouldn't have needed Reece Brown.

Let's not forget that most people on here would have cleared out Freeman and Coutts if possible. They've arguably turned out to be our best players this season.

I never quite understand why we meet opposing fans' views on incoming players with such scepticism, when the comments displayed by those fans almost identically mirror what we'd have told them about our outgoing players had they asked.
