We've got a very long way to go.

We were second best in every department today and didn't deserve the draw.

Yet again our season hinges on signings yet to be made, approaching the end of August. Not a good position to be in.

And to really rub salt into the wounds Ched scores again... as we're struggling to trouble a Rochdale defence at Bramall Lane.

God knows what it's going to take to get this club going again. It feels as dead as ever.

Two bang average L1 sides cancelling each other out all game.

5 points off the top already, and still waiting on 4 very key players.

Why do we always make it as difficult as possible for ourselves right from the very off?

Absolutely infuriating.

Start by completely removing the memory of Clough.

Long, Brayford, Basham, Done - all need replacing.

Long - where do we start? Get rid.

Brayford - an incredibly expensive third division fullback - below average defensively and now seemingly zero attacking threat. Get rid.

Basham - worth keeping as a utility player but not worth a start.

Done - an expensive headless chicken. His game has gone - possibly still could play the maIn sfinisher but won't get chance. Get rid.

I think we'll need to sacrifice a striker and play 3 in the middle

That was shite today.

We definitely need a better right back. That's the uncomfortable truth.
Not only is Brayford a shadow of what he was, he's a weak link. You expect a bit more from him but he doesn't even do the basics.

I agree about three in the middle. It's the way to go unless you've got two central midfielders who are good enough physically, technically and positionally to play in a two. A two man midfield with Basham is hopeless.

Done's like Brayford. A shadow. Doesn't look like he wants to be here. Definitely someone we can do without.

But we can talk about players all day. We've changed enough of them and not much seems to change, it never does. There seems to be a bigger underlying reason behind our perpetual failure. Fuck knows what.

Brayford played like a bloke who didn't want to play today fuck him off before damage is done.

If I was his captain today I'd have flattened him

Yep agree, hardly played with a smile on his face. I've been his biggest fan but perhaps it's time for him to take on a new challenge.

And Done is poor!

Basham will win the ball and give it away...no good.

Get the impression that Brayford's the ultimate confidence player.

Clough seems to know intimitely what makes him tick. But without Clough there to inspire him, he's just withered away to something totally unrecognisable.

100% spot on - couldn't have put it better.

The problem is: the "new" wood isn't much better than the deadwood - the defence apart from O'Connell is useless and fragile.

If Mcnulty can't get on the pitch today, he might as well just find another club.

It's nigh on impossible after being shite for so long, but the main thing we need right now (removing Cloughs dross aside) is patience.

Said before that Done is not being played in the right position, and like you say, doesn't look like he is going to be. In which case, perhaps he should be moved on, torture watching him struggle out on the wing.

Agree. All we can do is get rid of as much of the dross as we can, sign the right types of players, sit back and hopefully see things gradually improve. That's what this season will be about, not promotion.

Good post, even if it doesn't make for good reading!

I think that we needed a big start to the season if we were going to use momentum to carry us forward. Sadly its not started that way. It was more out of hope than a firm belief.

It will be a tough season. We've made a lot of changes and Wilder, has a task on his hands to a) get players gelling and b) continue recruitment.

Its far too early to assess his signings, but he's addressed the majority of the gaps we had, even if that is to stick some gaffer tape over it until we can sort them properly.

Changing a clubs mentality and building spirit isn't a quick fix. He needs something to work with and i like the fact that he has faith in his strongest team After last saturday and tuesday he couldve been forgiven for changing things, the knee jerk. But he's sticking with what he likes and that faith will be repaid.

We may not have deserved the result, but its a result that might just help give some players a little belief.

As for Ched. He's not our concern and he's gone elsewhere.

The draw was deserved IMO. But that was a draw at home to the most run of the mill league 1 clubs that we will face this season. Sadly, that is what we are and will continue to be whilst we sell our better young players year on year.

The only positive for me was O'Connell, looks a proper defender who wants to get the ball down and play. Won't get excited about him because he'll be sold if he has a good season.

Really regret renewing my season ticket already, the toxicity on the kop towards Long in the first half was absolutely pathetic and completely unhelpful. Yes he mad a mistake but men old enough to know better walking past him hurling abuse won't help.

Done is a good player, played out of position. United bought him as a potent marksman and sure enough play him out wide..?!?

Fucking hell six bastard seasons and we need patience :-(
Becuae the new man is not responsible for the debacles that have gone before, no matter how hard it's been for us to live through them.

And impatience won't help any of us one bit.

UTB

Well how is it other clubs can do what we can't?
That's another point, unless you think impatience helped them ? :)

This point is that perhaps we will do it this season, we can at least give it that. 5 seasons before have got fuck all to do with Wilder, even though he's still having to clear up Clough's expensive mess.

UTB

It's a concern I wouldn't mind us having; a striker that almost guarantees a goal a game. :( Can't we sign him before the window shuts?
Or we could have - 2 x strikers, 3 x games played, 2 goals scored. Last season they scored 40 goals between them in 73 games

I reckon Clarke and Sharp will get 40 goals this season. You reckon Ched will get the same?

No cos the rapist will be sacked in October the vile bastard.

After reading & listening alot about Chris Wilder in preseason. I was excited to finally see this team for myself for 1st time this afternoon after being on holiday for derby & work v crewe game. But It wasnt the best performance alot long balls more in hope than expectation would've preferred it more on the floor. But still better than adkins crap last yr i thought because at least we having go & something happened. I was bored under adkins. I keep trying to defend long because last season he kept us in more games than he cost us. Credit great stop in the 1st half but on stroke of HT it was terrible from George Long for that 1st goal. He shouldve kept hold as absolutely No excuses for parrying it. It was Hardly a powerful shot

I know people don't want to hear this but I think this is a transitional yr before we go next year
