Blast from the past here. Jeff Bourne. Think he played around 20 odd games but scored a few goals ... remember him taking a few penalties at United and always went to put them in the top corner.

I always felt confident Baxter would score when we got a pen and he was taking it.

Morris missed 12 penalties for us although quite often he would go on to score from the rebound

Morris' first 4 misses were not costly. He followed up to score twice and we won the other 2 games easily.

His next 7 misses were more costly: he followed up to score once but we only won one of the other games in which he missed.

He lost the job after missing 3 out of 4 in 1986-7, but Peter Beagrie missed the next one, so when we were awarded another in later in the same game, Morris took it and scored.

His final miss was also in a game we won.

Duffield scored every penalty he took for us at youth, reserves and 1st team matches, Blackman's technique is good but it wull be ruled illegal if he carries on like he always did. Forgot that Andy Gray was good as was Bobby Ford

Remember Bobby Ford missing one against Forest I think. Awful penalty.

Tony Kenworthy and Colin Morris were both fairly reliable over a number of years but neither were infallible like Duffield was.

To be fair Kenworthy wasn't so reliable on the one day we really could have done with it.

king keith dont think ever missed a pen for united, love to no how many he took one for you SILENT BLADE seem to remember him scoreing against hull for is hat trick but thats it, sure they will all come back to me

He took 2 in his second spell: his Hattrick goal against Hull in 1985-6. (Morris off the field) and at Scunthorpe in 1983-4 (Morris not playing). He scored both.

Beattie missed x2, 1 v Blackpool and 1 v Leicester (which he scored the rebound). Since 1988 I'd say the following:
Duffield
Blackman
Beattie
Baxter

Deano always took an awful pen, never seemed to strike the ball cleanly.

Changing the subject to best penalty taken at the Lane that would have to be Dwight Yorker's cheeky lob for Villa in the FA Cup game in the 90s.

Not sure where Baxter or Blackman would be in the list.

So Kenworthy it is then ,interestingly isn't he the only defender on there ? Seem to recall Ray Stewart from WHU was regarded as the best penalty taker in the country and he was a defender too.

Statistically from "The Complete Record" (up to 2012/13)....

Fred Furniss 17/15 88.2%
.

Complete Records in 1999 says Furniss missed only once from his 17 attempts and then the revised edition says 17/15. He missed one in the 7-3 win against Wendy in Sept 1951. What was the other?

I'd say Duffield was the best penalty taker for us, seemed to remember it was always hard low bottom right hand corner. If the keeper guessed correctly and went early he still couldn't stop it. Thought Kenworthy was a good 'un with pens too, although as another poster has commented not totally convinced with lefties taking them. Remember Kenworthy having one saved at Mansfield in Div 4 season, he then made up for it by scoring from open play - I've got it in my mind it was a header on the back stick, although I could be wrong with that and it might have been direct from a free-kick!!!! It was 34 years ago I suppose!
