Sheffield United U18 won for the sixth time in ten games against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town on a crisp morning at Shirecliffe thanks to an own goal and a free kick from Jordan Hallam. The home side got the game underway a couple of minutes later than scheduled and they dominated the early proceedings despite Town having the first attempt at goal. After Tyler Smith was fouled in the 7th minute, Gilmour delivered a delicious looking free kick with his left foot which the Huddersfield defender managed to divert behind for an early corner which came to nothing. It wouldn’t…

Sheffield United’s schedule of pre-season friendlies began this morning as a Blades XI welcomed Chesterfield to a sweltering Shirecliffe. Wearing training tops rather than the new Adidas home strip, the Blades selected a side made up of mainly U18s for the friendly billed as a “Sheffield United XI”. With the sun beating down, the game got off to a quiet start as was to be expected, with little action of note other than a good save from Blades keeper Ramsdale. The opening twenty minutes or so passed without a clear cut chance being created for either side, but the visitors…
The Blades Academy side marched into the third round of the FA Youth Cup after a thumping victory over minnows Worcester City at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night, courtesy of hat-tricks for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jake Eyre, along with goals from Dan Cockerline, Ben Whiteman and Jason Paling. There were three changes in personnel for the home side compared to the first round tie at Oldham, with Gareth Owen replacing Jake Eastwood in net, Elliot Ptak making way for Kyle Scarisbrick and Joel Coustrain taking Kler Heh’s place on the wing. In what was a quiet opening to the game,…
Sheffield United and Oldham Athletic got their FA Youth Cup campaign under way on Wednesday night and it turned into a battle between two number 10s as Otis Khan and Jordan Bove both scored twice in an entertaining contest at Boundary Park with drama aplenty. The rain was pouring down as the Blades kicked the game off and Oldham winger Danny Byrnes looked to capitalise on the slippery surface early on, as his shot from distance fizzed past Eastwood’s right hand post. Mike Brewster also had an effort from distance but he also failed to test the keeper in the…
The Academy side succumbed to their first defeat of the season on Saturday, despite having much of the play and the better chances against a Crewe side containing Callum Saunders, son of former Blades striker Dean, who was in attendance at Shirecliffe. There were a few changes for the home side after several players were involved in the excellent win at Hillsborough the previous afternoon. Welsh keeper Gareth Owen was given his first start of the season and in front of him were Jason Paling, Kyle Scarisbrick, Joe Cheeseman and Elliot Ptak. The two deep-lying midfielders would be the same…
Sheffield United’s U18 side got the ball rolling for their season with a solid point at Shirecliffe, where they hosted local rivals Leeds United on Saturday morning. The Blades had notable absentees such as Jamie-Dean McDonagh, who has everyone wishing him a speedy recovery after breaking his leg on international duty, Otis Khan, Gareth Owen and Jake Eyre, who’s impressive pre-season form with the academy meant he found himself on the substitutes bench at Bramall Lane as the first team played Colchester United on Saturday afternoon. As the coaching staff look to try and make the transition between the youth…
