Sheffield United U18 won for the sixth time in ten games against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town on a crisp morning at Shirecliffe thanks to an own goal and a free kick from Jordan Hallam.  The home side got the game underway a couple of minutes later than scheduled and they dominated the early proceedings despite Town having the first attempt at goal. After Tyler Smith was fouled in the 7th minute, Gilmour delivered a delicious looking free kick with his left foot which the Huddersfield defender managed to divert behind for an early corner which came to nothing. Sheffield United’s schedule of pre-season friendlies began this morning as a Blades XI welcomed Chesterfield to a sweltering Shirecliffe. Wearing training tops rather than the new Adidas home strip, the Blades selected a side made up of mainly U18s for the friendly billed as a “Sheffield United XI”. Mike Brewster also had an effort from distance but he also failed to test the keeper in the…

Welsh keeper Gareth Owen was given his first start of the season and in front of him were Jason Paling, Kyle Scarisbrick, Joe Cheeseman and Elliot Ptak. The two deep-lying midfielders would be the same…

The Blades had notable absentees such as Jamie-Dean McDonagh, who has everyone wishing him a speedy recovery after breaking his leg on international duty, Otis Khan, Gareth Owen and Jake Eyre, who’s impressive pre-season form with the academy meant he found himself on the substitutes bench at Bramall Lane as the first team played Colchester United on Saturday afternoon. As the coaching staff look to try and make the transition between the youth…
