The Blades first team squad will be donating United merchandise and gifts to Hallam FM this Wednesday in order to support the radio station’s ‘Mission Christmas’ campaign. Supporting the campaign further, the Blades are offering supporters the opportunity to get involved by dropping off a gift that the players can deliver on their behalf. Thousands of children in poverty from around our region will wake up on Christmas Day without presents, Unitedites are being asked to contribute to make Christmas morning that little bit brighter for a local youngster. Sheffield United’s Operations Director, Dave McCarthy, commented: “We are asking that between now…
Sheffield United take on West Ham United in the Capital One Cup tomorrow evening, in what should be an interesting fixture for all involved. On the eve of our first trip to Upton Park since 2006, we thought we’d have a quick chat with a couple of Hammers about the game… What were your initial reactions when the draw was made? [Liam Spencer – ironviews.com] Above all else, my first reaction was one of excitement. It’s been seven years since the Tevez fiasco yet every year we’ve managed to avoid you in both cup competitions. The atmosphere at Upton Park…
The Sheffield United Pre-Season schedule continued on a stiflingly warm Saturday afternoon, as Chris Morgan took an U21 side to the Horsfall Stadium, home of Bradford Park Avenue. With the sun beating down, the Blades got the game under-way, MJ Kedman having to remain alert in the opening exchanges to block an early cross as the hosts tried to carve out the first opportunity of the game. Down the other end, Otis Khan forced the first corner of the game with a run at the full back, the cross from the resulting corner was just too high for Evans. After…
On a balmy Monday evening, a young Sheffield United XI travelled the short distance up to Sandygate to take on Hallam FC. Following on from their victory against Stocksbridge Park Steels on Friday, the squad contained many players who featured at Bracken Moor. With the sun beating down, the United side had the unfortunate pleasure of kicking up hill in the first half. In a frenetic start, it was the hosts who started the brighter of the two sides, having a couple of opportunities within the first couple of minutes, both ending up off target. Simon Duckworth had an effort…
Following a trip to his ex-employers Burton Albion, Nigel Clough will take his side further south, to play Northampton Town on the 22nd July. United will travel to their second League Two opponents within a few days, meeting The Cobblers at Sixfields, a destination which saw Chris Morgan take temporary charge in the televised fixture against homeless Coventry City last season. Northampton Town harbour some familiar faces with Evan Horwood, Matt Duke and John-Joe O’Toole having previously spent time with the Blades. Off the pitch Chris Wilder is another link, having joined The Cobblers as manager during January 2014 and…
The Sheffield United first team kicked off their pre-season with a defeat nearly as heavy as the rainfall, seeing Burton Albion comfortably retain the Bass Charity Vase. Speaking before the game of giving everyone some time on the pitch, it was expected that Nigel Clough would either be playing a different XI for 45 minutes each, or at the very least, making a large number of substitutions at half time. The Blades manager gave starting berths to new signings Andy Butler and Jamal Campbell-Ryce, whilst blending the youth of Jason Paling, Louis Reed and Connor Dimaio with other familiar faces…
Pre-Season continued on a warm Friday evening as Sheffield United sent an XI up to Bracken Moor (the Look Local Stadium) to take on Stocksbridge Park Steels. With a similar squad to the one named in last Saturday’s victory over Chesterfield, it was a young side up against a Steels side playing for the first time under a new management team. Resplendent in the new Adidas home kit, the Blades got the game underway, attacking the terraced end first half. Stocksbridge had the first effort of the game, with a shot on target from outside the box. United keeper Ramsdale…
Wednesday evening saw the Sheffield United Development Squad (U21’s) play their first pre-season fixture of the summer, taking on Sheffield FC in front of a crowd of 301. The home side were looking to make it a hat-trick of local scalps after a 4-2 win over a Wednesday team last Thursday and a 2-0 win over Chesterfield yesterday evening, with ex-Blades academy player Jahmal Smith grabbing a brace against the Spireites. It wasn’t to be however, as the sides finished the evening on level pegging. In terms of chances, the Blades had the better of the opening stages with Jamie-Dean…
Following a victory for a Blades XI against Chesterfield on Saturday and a visit to Sheffield FC for the U21’s this evening, the opening “First Team” fixture of the Sheffield United 2014/2015 Pre-Season is a game against Burton Albion, at the Pirelli Stadium on the 19th July. A trip to the Brewers won’t just be familiar to the Unitedites who’ve followed our previous visits in both the Johnstones Paint Trophy and pre-season, but to manager Nigel Clough, who spent 11 years of his career with the Staffordshire club. Having re-joined Burton Albion on a six-month loan deal from the Blades…

Another League One season came to a close at the beginning of this month, with a 2-1 victory over Coventry City cementing a 7th place finish for Sheffield United. In every other circumstance, this would be a disappointment, but having been floundering in the relegation spots a matter of months earlier, this, coupled with an FA Cup Semi Final appearance meant the players and management were warmly received in their “lap of thanks” after the game. Now it’s all over and we look towards the usual summer of transfer rumours and our football fix being filled by the World Cup,…
