Chris Wilder got off to a winning start as Sheffield United boss with a resounding victory over local side Stocksbridge Park Steels, 1665 were in attendance at Bracken Moor for the pre-season opener against the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division side. The new gaffer, choosing to cast his eye over a large proportion of the squad during his first 90 minutes on the touchline, named two separate XI’s including a first half run out for triallist Conor Shaughnessy. The Blades got the game under-way and it became clear early doors as to Wilder’s intentions, regularly encouraging his side to “move the ball quicker” and press onto the…

Thursday December 17th sees a real Blades legend return to the City with a night with Tony Kenworthy at the Old Crown London Road in association with SUSA and MatchdaySupport. Tony Kenworthy made his debut for the Blades aged just 17 and went on to forge a formidable reputation as a defender. He epitomised what being a Blade was all about – tough, uncompromising, hard in the tackle and always fair, his love of the Blades has not been diminished over the years. A key member of the 4th Division Championship winning side and the promotion team of 1984 his…

The Blades travel to Morecambe this evening for a first round League Cup clash with the Shrimps, looking to bounce back from the disappointing league opener on Saturday. The only previous League Cup fixture between the two sides was at Bramall Lane on 25th September 2007, when the Blades won convincingly – putting five past the visitors without reply in front of a sparse crowd of 8854. On the evening, Billy Sharp and Luton Shelton both grabbed a brace, with Lee Hendrie scoring the other goal to book a 4th round tie for United. United’s previous trip to the Globe Arena, was…

The Blades fielded a strong U21’s side against Matlock Town on Tuesday night and were rewarded with a comfortable victory. It wasn’t all good news however, with Matty Done leaving the ground in an ambulance after an awkward fall not long into the fixture – later confirmed to have broken his collar bone. After a fairly uneventful opening 7 minutes or so, Done, playing on the right wing challenged for a ball, fell awkwardly and laid motionless on the turf. After initial assessment from the physio, he walked off gingerly to be replaced by McDonagh, before later leaving the ground in…

Two late goals from the Blades earned Nigel Adkins’ men a second victory of their pre-season campaign over Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night. Again playing two different XI’s, choosing to switch on 60 minutes rather than 45 minutes this time around – Adkins took the opportunity to look at a number of his squad, including new signing Martyn Woolford. Che Adams looked to be starting in a more central role than his previous appearance on the left wing and it was Adams who would open the scoring. Dom Calvert-Lewin threaded a beautiful ball from the left hand side for Adams to calmly…

After a Campbell-Ryce cross was blocked for a corner less than two minutes in, Bob Harris sent in the set piece which was met by the head of…

Five days after kicking off their pre-season campaign with a victory over Penistone Church FC, Chris Morgan’s Under 21 side took the short trip to Bracken Moor, the home of Stocksbridge Park Steels. Despite a second half come back from the hosts, the young Blades side once again emerged victorious, thanks to a late brace from Joel Coustrain. As they did last Friday, the Blades took to the field in the new pinstriped shirt, black shorts and red socks, with the keeper top being exchanged for a black training top so as to not clash with the Steels’ yellow shirts.…

Travis Binnion’s Under 18 side kicked off their pre-season with a trip into North Lincolnshire, to The Hawthornes, home of Brigg Town FC. One of the oldest football clubs in the world (a few years younger than Hallam and Sheffield FC), the Zebras currently play in the Northern Counties East League Premier. The Blades started positively and forced an early corner, which the hosts keeper misjudged. Callum Semple managed to get his head on the center, but could only direct it over the bar. Brigg came down the other end and tested United keeper Ramsdale with an effort which he had…

The Blades U21’s pre-season schedule got under-way with a victory in S36 this evening, as the young Blades took on Penistone Church FC. A decent crowd were in attendance, including Eddie Colquhoun and Matt Duke, on a night conducive to pre-season football and a pint. Despite United keeper Jake Eastwood being forced to make the first save of the game, the Blades were rarely troubled in a game that saw them dominate more than the slender scoreline suggested. The Blades had early luck down the left and the outstretched leg of McDonagh created the first real chance, with the Church keeper having to…
