I thought this may be an interesting series of threads over the season. If so, I will aim to do one for each game.

Saturday will be the 25th meeting between the two clubs. It is neck and neck with both SUFC and Gillingham winning 9 games each and drawing 6.

This will be the 15th meeting in the third tier of English Football. All other meetings were in the 2nd tier. We have never met in cup competition.

The first ever meeting between the clubs was at Bramall Lane on 10/09/1979 in the old 3rd Division with SUFC winning 4-0.

The last meeting at Bramall Lane on 27/09/14 was won late on by SUFC, very late on. Goals from Higdon(87) and Murphy(90) overturned a Luke Norris opener on 83 minutes.

The highest attendance for a game between the clubs was 21,569 when on 09/08/2003 at Bramall Lane. Blades players at the time included Paddy Kenny, Chris Morgan, Phil Jagielka, Michael Tonge and Michael Brown. The Gills fielded future Blades Paul Shaw and Nyron Nosworthy. The game ended 0-0.

Really good idea this. If wallace can stay fit this season we've got the best midfield partnership with Bashy. Loved that slide tackle and the instant through ball to MCnults. Such a positive player. The highlights of last season are a nice touch.

Corrreccttt Matt! So far, finger's crossed, Wallace seems on the way back, and for us he'll be a mega influence. Dynamic's the word, he's got a bit of everything for a midfielder and we can only hope he remains fit. Also loved Murphy's goal, saw something where lesser players would have given up the chance, and his determination and skill brought the deserved reward.

This wasn't the game that produced the infamous "Real Madrid wouldn't have beaten those today" Warnock quote was it?

Will look forward to these threads over the season, along with Roy's 'View From'!

Couldn't agree more. Could easily see us being top scorers in the league like 11/12. There is a ridiculous amount of firepower up front. Sharp - can see him getting a lot of game time under NA, done it before at this level, capable of 15+ goals . Che - seems like he has it all already, strength, speed, awareness & finishing, got 3 in pre-season & finished last season on fire, providing he gets game time, should be 10+ goals. Done (when fit) - 'the seagull' can play wide as shown against swindon first leg & when up front he shows so much class but always there to put in the scrappy ones (bristol city away) can't see anything less than 10 goals. McNulty might not be as regular but finished with 9 league goals and joint top scorer overall. Sammon seems like more of a hold up player and hasn't really been prolific so far in his career but a nice option to have when we need that physical approach. Higdon scored 5 from 12 apps so his ratio is decent, probably a bit frustrated not to have played more but he didn't help himself at times, neither did the refs tbf. Murphy finished as top league scorer and from playing left mid the majority of the time is impressive, although i remember him being pushed up front ^ v Gillingham & v swindon & doing very well with two against swindon, didn't he play alongside higdon at motherwell & was the reason we signed him, but then moved out to left wing. Expecting near double figures again for him. Picked up from here that Baxter is looking a lot leaner & fitter this year? Feel confident with him on penalty duties but may end up getting a few more from open play.

Just realised, i have written this thread like we are at home when in fact we are away...:tumbleweed:

The last meeting between the 2 clubs at the Priestfield stadium was on 07/02/2015 with two late Gills strikes (84 & 90) giving Gillingham a 2-0 victory.

Something we need to fix THIS season, is that we've never done the DOUBLE over them, but they hav

Looking forward to the Fleetwood head-to-head

Gills 0-3 Blades, Pesch hat-trick on Sky, got the DVD somewhere (or VCD as it was in those days :))

Note to all : Highlights of 2-1 at Bramall Lane shows equaliser with great ball in box by ALCOCK, finished well by HIGDON.

We absolutely murdered them that day and it would not have been flattering if we'd have been 10-0 up before they scored with their only shot of the game.

We seemed to do a lot of this early last season - match stats showing 20 odd shots and we'd only score 1

Don't mean to get all Billy Big Bollox here (but I will): how have feckin GILLINGHAM won as many games against us as we have against them?!!

The Chief caused absolute mayhem that evening. Classic Big Man/Little Man stuff in that game.

Nice idea matt.

My personal view on this one is that we should be beating teams like Gillingham for fun and let's hope we do.

If we are serious about going up which we say every season then yes we should be turning teams like Gillingham over.

It's always easier said than done.

781 hardy souls watched a predictably insipid display in the dreary February rain, the only mild entertainment being provided by throwing around the waterproofs provided by the Gillingham stewards in compensation for the lack of a roof.

Hopefully Saturday will have a different feel to it.

For the fifth season we are the favourites, so the gills have no chance.;)
