I remember before he was in the team they said he was a great shot stopper, and when he grows in height he will be a great keeper.

maybe hos relatively late growth spurt meant
he spent most of his early practice not coming for crosses.hence his struggle with it now.

The kicking however is just terrible.

for me a gk is just too important to have a player we hope improves.if it was a youngster on any other part of the pitch I'd give them time but as we've seen in recent seasons a bad goalkeeper can cost you big.

One major issue George Long needs to rectify.

Confidence. Communicate with your back four, tell them where you want them.

Tell them if it's yours.

Talk, man.

Agreed, his communication is poor, and yet it's the one skill that you'd think would be easy enough to train into him with good coaching.

Maybe we should also be asking questions about our GK coach Ward. He's trained Long, Howard and Turner in recent times and said that they were
fit for purpose, which they obviously weren't/ aren't.

It would be great if you were 100% right regarding Long . However as the goalkeeper position is important as the bloke who puts the ball in the back of the net , Wilder needs to review this position. . Sorry but Long is just not good enough to be a promotion team goalkeeper.

This season is the season all parties ( including Fans ) expect promotion , and anything less will be second best .

Wilder is trying to build a squad for success first time around . To achieve that , Long cannot be number 1 as we ain't got time on our side for development improvement . 3 seasons ago yes accepted , but that time as gone . Too much of a risk in our 6th season.

The bloke is not crap , or shite , just good enough for Sheffield United Football Club back up no2 goalkeeper.

Wilder has to seriously think this through . Also as someone else eluded to . What the fuck is the goalkeeping coach doing . Do we need to replace him.
