EFL angers new King by postponing day time fixtures ensuring around eighty teams will now have to play under floodlights despite soaring energy costs and climate emergency.

Give every fan a torch powered by handbike.

Is there no initiative sny more?

I think Pigs being a forward thinking club means they’ve been collecting rain water for years
Very forward thinking as always. Just like their creative accountancy, innovative sponsorship deals and in-house kit manufacturing. Still think choosing to store rainwater on the stadium pitch was a questionable move!

I appreciate that there is a climate change narrative that is being followed and we also have very high energy costs… but the best that clubs can do is move Saturday games 2 hours earlier… which will mean some very early starts for fans going to some games and of course alternative transport methods as well.

I don’t know the percentage of games played midweek - but Friday and Monday night games should go immediately as they can be played on a Saturday.

Sorry for sounding naïve, but how does altering kick-off times help with the energy crisis and climate change?

Think your link needs fixing Brian 😁

Intrigued to know how much it costs for the floodlights to be on throughout the course of a match?
internal and concourse lights would normally be on anyway as they are primarily in confined areas with no natural lights.

seems to some attention seekers trying to do what they consider to be the correct thing whilst having no thought for the wider ranmifications.

Think it will only affect lower league clubs really like Notts County and Sheffield Wednesday etc. Proper teams can afford it

However, the moving to 1pm would immediately circumvent that inconvenient "can't show matches live at 3pm Saturday" rule and be very tempting for those good chaps at Sky etc. who could then whack another game or two out live to the financial benefit of the already wealthy.

There's hundreds if not thousands of clubs with floodlights needlessly using electric as we have a tradition of 3pm kick offs all the way down to 10/11 levels below the top flight. For regional non league games it does seem particularly stupid when there's only a few hundred maximum going to the game as it is.

So for the many fans who go straight home after the match will now be home at 4pm ish to put their heating and lights and tv on instead of 7pm ish - therefore using more electric at home, seems to make lots of sense😳
