Like those programs that hypothesis about these sliding doors moments.... what would life be like if McCabe had won the court case?

How would the club have been run?

Would we have sold Fleck, Enda, Mousset et al after our 9th finish?

Would we have even signed N'Diaye?

Would we have hired Big Sam?

Would we still have that cheese and onion pie instead of the Moroccan tagine vegan pie in the stadium?

Would Japan have ruled the USA?

We’d be owned by the owners at Burnley, who McCabe had lined up to sell to.They are currently buying up players for millions, in readiness for a crack at the Premiership, whereas we are currently selling our best players, and blowing any hope we had of staying up.

I firmly believe if McCabe had won that court case he’d have found some reason to pull out of the ALK deal.. I don’t believe he would have willingly given up control of this club to anyone other than his son when he got to his 80s.

United were a vast ego trip for him that kept him high profile to help his other business deals.

We'd be owned by ALK capital. They would own all the property including the bits McCabe still owns. They seem to have done a good job at Burnley.

Burnley owners borrowed a lot of money to buy out the club, borrowed more to sign players last season and they are borrowing even more this season

High risk plan.

Their way of financial operating doesn’t give me any confidence for Burnley’s future.

I don't know why people seem to think that McCabe sabotaged United up to the point of the court case as he did not. Almost all of his managerial appointments were universally applauded with the exception of Robson. He funded the club to a point then drew a line and said the club would have to run as a business and pay for itself and as with any business the debts have to be paid somehow. Anybody who thinks he purposely under sold players is daft and he would have professional negotiators to get the best deal possible. Just because Walker went on to have a stellar career and we didn't get much for him doesn't mean we could've got more. Maguire including the sell on fee was realistic money as were most sales.
As for where we would be now had he kept control of The Blades I'd say our path would've taken the same route up to January where there is a good chance that we would've sold Ndiaye so I expect our promotion challenge would've tailed off but we would be in a better position to make a go at The Championship and not mortgaged to the hilt. All 'ifs' and 'buts'.

There would be a big hole where Bramall Lane once stood. With a few workman stood round doing nothing but smoking tabs and drinking beer.

Derek Dooley stepped down after we were promoted to the Premier League where McCabe took over.

He tried to get us to stay up by paying peanuts for players and wages.

On getting relegated he then hired Bryan Robson, a washed up failure of a manager, and gave him a better squad than Warnock had in the Premier League.

He then sold our best player at a loss just over a year after signing him, while we were sat 2nd in the league, all because he pissed his pants at the idea of us not going up.

He gave away Kyle Walker when Spurs were only interested in Kyle Naughton.

He used Sheffield United to acquire Chengdu Blades, Ferencvaros then took sole control of them all after using the clubs money to buy them.

He was in charge as we were relegated to League One with four managers in charge over the season.

He loaned the club the money to build a hotel. The money then went back into his pocket as his building firm built the hotel. He then charged United interest on the payments for the hotel. When the club couldn't afford to pay him he took over sole control of the ownership of the hotel. "I've never made a penny from this club while I've been in charge."

He appointed Bryan Robson, Kevin Blackwell, Micky Adams, David Weir and Nigel Adkins. His only positive appointmens were Nigel Clough who was harshly sacked after making steady progress with a constant reduced budget every season, and Danny Wilson, who on paper was our most successful manager for points percentage, but he sacked him late on with automatic still in sight and left our play off hopes in the hands of Chris Morgan.

Where we be under McCabe now? A hell of a lot worse off than we are now. McCabe used United to build on his property portfolio. Everything he did was done with his interests at heart and not the club.

The Prince at least is trying to do what's right. He's trying to run us sensibly on money that we have, as he doesn't have any. Unfortunately we're not like other clubs where we sell a player for £20mil, buy four more for £5mil then sell two more for £15-£20mil later on. We never seem to find those players, or in the case of Ndiaye, we mess up the contract situation so that we make a profit, but only 2/3s of what we should have gotten for him. Other than the over value of the club, I don't think he's ever done anything for his personal benefit whilst in charge of Sheffield United. He certainly hasn't made any money from us.

Some decent points. No one who saw Walker would have let him go for peanuts. Which is what we did. The Robson debacle. Blackwell, Adam’s and Weir.

However……

Derek ran the day today operations and provided the perfect foil between McCabe and the playing side. McCabe didn’t “take over” he was always running the show.

I assume you mean Beattie? A mistake in selling him obviously but your reasoning doesn’t make sense.

Ferencvaros was a Scarborough deal. United money wasn’t used at all. As for his property portfolio, he was a multi millionaire before he came on board.

Hotel. Scarborough don’t build. So again, totally wrong.

They are a sports management and investment and risk management company that specialise in such business.
I’m guessing they know a thing or 2, about investment and risk management, but I’m not really concerned about them, other than the fact that they, as one of our rivals, appear to be having a good go at staying in the Prem.
I’m more concerned with our plan.Selling your 2 best players/performers days before the season starts, certainly is a novel approach, and one I’ve not seen before, if it is in fact a pre-determined strategy.
If it is a carefully thought out strategy, not to,at least, have a go this season, rather than just panic, and disarray, it requires a callous expectation that supporters who have already bought their season tickets, will just lump it,and put up with it.As a Blade of 60 odd years, I probably will, but not before voicing my disapproval and anger on a fans forum board.Come Saturday of course, I’ll be right behind whoever pulls on the red and white shirt, and always have been.
There are others, sadly who will not, as the season wears on, and the morale of fans and players alike, begins to sink even further.`It’s us that make this club, it’s our club, not theirs, and quite frankly we deserve better from the people that are running it.

Nigel Adkins was also a "joint ownership" appointment. McCabe delegated the running of the club to various people post Dooley. Trever Birch and Terry Robinson are two that spring to mind. He attended the post season fans forum in 2016 after the Adkins shitshow. At that forum he admitted that he'd been too distant and trusted the wrong people. Adkins was sacked soon after. The Prince and Phipps had disappeared off the scene for some time. The next time we saw the Prince was when he had the L1 trophy in his hands. The Walker income probably amounted to around 10 million post add ons which isn't great but not terrible either..

We'd probably be in league 1 again

I'd be getting an extra four games for the cost of my season ticket

Chapter 11 is actually called "Get to fuck". It's what he said to the judge when he found in the prince's favour. I'll be reading it just for that chapter.

The discussion was about McCabe which is why l didn’t mention Adkins Weir was here two minutes.

You keep saying “disappeared” but by the start of the 17/18 season both he and McCabe had pumped another £6.6m in. Hardly Richard Kimble.

I think you’re the only person who would describe the Walker deal as “not terrible”. To continue having a pop at PA by defending McCabe for that shocking piece of business is really scraping the barrel.

Not terrible. Jesus Christ.

Stood up on our tip toes to eat the gigantic plate of white dog shit.

League One, selling off every half decent player than came along.

Let's not start looking back on the McCabe days with blurry eyed nostalgia, they were absolute shit for the most part and oversaw us spiralling down to the worst position in my supporting years.

Exactly.
