Cooper has consistently been the worst keeper in the Championship this season, according to the stats.

Today his stats got even worse:-

XGOT.webp
24th out of 24 and way behind 23rd - statistically 6 goals let in that a bang average keeper should have kept out.

His mistake for the first goal today didn't even make a big impact on these numbers, because his mistake came to allow the chance, not to fail to save it.

Some players seem able to avoid criticism - but the longer this goes on the more the statistics are confirming it. Pointing out solid statistics is not scapegoating - this is consistent underperformance.

His cool demeanor is great in a crisis, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to bother him when he makes a cock-up. Most good keepers are slightly mad - Paddy, Pickford, Hart - Cooper is just too sane!

Cooper is undoubtedly a good keeper - his stats last year ranked him 5th with a +6 goals prevented rating - he is 12 behind that at present!!

We dodged a bullet today - but where would we be this season if that minus 6.1 were just an absolutely bang average performance of zero!

We definitely need some serious competition between the sticks - when players have a drop in form bringing in a replacement for a game or two usually gets them back up to speed. Davies replaced him for the second half at Coventry and conceded 3!

An old campaigner like Forster in January would be ideal - solid back-up, but no long-term threat, and good mentoring all week.

Not that I'd expect him to move up at all, but without xGa/game to compare the stat is fairly meaningless. If he's facing twice the amount of shots in terms of quality as the other keepers you screenshotted then that's kind of the numbers I'd expect from keepers in equally poor form

I don't agree that it doesn't bother him.

I watched him at the final whistle and he slumped to the floor looking unhappy with himself.

McGuinness and Wilder made a beeline for him to pull him up and put their arm around him.

He’s been very off it. I don’t agree with the calls the pop up on here about always needing a top class second keeper, but I’d like to see someone come in in January. Even if it’s just an experience pro who’ll not be shit I’ll be happy (I think Davies has lost it as a result of not playing for years).

I was at the game, so couldn't see properly. Could anyone tell what he was getting treated for when he went down injured, prior to not moving at all a few mins later for their 2nd?

They treated his leg but then did something to his back as well. It looks like a back problem to me as he’s getting close to taking over from JLT as the new C-3PO.

His back would have been from the fall and nudge for the first goal I reckon. But his knees worry me.

We definitely need a good 2nd choice to push/ rotate/give him rest. I fear hes playing with injections to get by as we simply can not allow davies to step in.

I don’t think it’s just from this game, he’s had nothing at all to do for 2 games this week, then been poor today from fairly run of the mill situations, prior to that he’s been iffy to say the least all season.

Does he not want to be at the lane anymore? He absolutely gifted them both goals. Pathetic keeping.

He’s clearly carrying an injury, with the obvious current thinking it’s better playing him at 75% than the alternative on the bench.
It’s costing us and has to be addressed in January.

Think that's a fair point re Davies.

He used to be a decent keeper and not that many years ago was a very decent back up at this level.

His lack of first team football over a sustained period has probably done him no favours in terms of match readiness and sharpness.

I'm assuming timewastingitis

I think the older pro idea on a free aren’t a bad shout, Cooper should be number 1 but it would be nice to have the safety net of knowing if he needs a game off, that we have say a Fraser Forster type who can step in, even if it is just until the end of the season. As this summer will be big on keepers to be fair, Davies contract is up, Cooper needs to set-up and Faxon decisions need to be made.

Regardless of Coopers injury/no injury we need a good 2nd keeper.

Their first goal puzzles me he could have jumped for it but didnt and you can see he changes his mind not to. Tanganga had 2 men to cover and went for the wrong man so he was in two minds also.

Collided with Tanga for first and ball swerved all over the place for the second. His weight was on his right leg and i presume his knee injury prevented him from re-adjusting. Give the kid a break.

I think as a fanbase we’d be more accepting if we knew he was carrying something. Right know we don’t so it’s causing unrest in my opinion.

Even if they just said he’s carrying a slight knock that’s healing on the go etc.

For the first, surely if he goes with both hands to catch the ball he avoids both players and the fall.

Both goals seemed to come from errors of judgement rather than being physically incapable.

The first goal was an error, yes.

But the second goal. That came not long after he’d been lying down on his back having the physio working on his knee. Potentially back also. The bend of the ball possibly caught him off guard, but he was clearly in the mode of thinking he didn’t fancy flinging himself about. It’s easy to see.

I don’t know how it’s not fairly obvious to people that he’s carrying an injury. He looked like our best keeper in decades last year. You can see how the injury is impacting him or you can read the rumours. Take your choice.

I thought it was Seriki but whoever it was they badly blocked him
