Wednesday get relegated to League One. We finish safe and do the double over them, posting the biggest-ever away win in a Sheffield Derby in the process.

I've been watching the Blades for many years and can confidently say that as seasons go, this would be a good season. Of course it would be better if we were mounting a promotion challenge, but I'd be very happy to see them replaced by Rotherham or whoever while we look to push on next year.

its still a relegation battle for now but apart from coventry this league is average imo and any team that goes on a 5/6 game winning run can be in the mix big game for us against portsmouth if we can win that we will have big momentum and anything is possible especially with incomings likely in january

Bettis said it would be mostly loans so don't expect the world.

I'm concerned with COH in charge we'll never mount a proper Premier League promotion push. So next season with no promotion push and no sheffield derby it could be pretty shite.

To give this season a real happy ending we need to stay up and smash the pigs 5-0 (or better!) at home. I think it's truly possible and it'd be monumental. Then just hope COH sell up to a proper bunch of people who know what they're doing.

I just want us to get out of the relegation battle and then start playing some entertaining football, with plenty of goals.

I doubt that the Wednesday squad for the return will be as weak as yesterdays, so let’s not over egg it.

Yeah big name players will be queuing up to join a Div 3 bound team.
They don’t need big names, just some better quality players than those that they already have.
There will be plenty of players looking for a deal and regular football that would improve them.
I wasn’t suggesting that they will be outstanding, just better than yesterday and unlikely to concede 5.

12 points outside the playoffs, that is by no means out of reach if we can start playing to some of our potential.

Cov were 9 points off playoffs at this point last season, and made playoffs. Happens every season, somebody makes a charge.

Hope that kills you, but it's there and it's possible.

We'll hopefully have a fit Hamer. and we'll be at home. And we're looking to have an impactful JTW. We've just done them 3-0 away, have some ambition!

Can they actually get anything but loans and frees?
Doesn’t the transfer ban still apply and their wage ceiling is £7k pw for anyone coming in?

Ambition should always go with reality. Who would you leave out for Hamer ? Will he still be here in February ? What are you realistically expecting in January ?

If that's a good season then our expectations are beyond low.

PS do you want to buy a second hand car?

Why is doing the double over our bitter rivals, and us securing our Championship status while they get relegated "beyond low"?

We aren't Man City or Liverpool. No club in the Championship has an automatic right to be challenging for automatic promotion every year. Each season, numerous clubs the size of ours finish mid-table or worse.

I've watched the Blades for 45 seasons. This is shaping up to be a decent one.

We can make the play-offs. Keep believing, keep working hard and building team spirit.
Don't underestimate the impact of yesterday's win - it's a massive shot in the arm to boost confidence.

Danny Ings would be the most obvious to drop from yesterdays starting XI. Formation tweaks needed too of course. COH have put themselves in a position where they can't really piss the fans off further so I expect Hamer will stay til Summer just so they can save face a bit (plus he might be handy to get us away from the relegation spots eh?). I'm realistically expecting to be improved on the current squad after JTW. The current squad that won 3-0 away.

If we think that in our final year of parachute payments that scraping to stay up with the money we have spent and think that its an achievement to beat a team twice who can't pay staff, have been significantly deducted points and can't realistically put out a team that can compete on any level in the championship then we have accepted mediocrity. It's not an achievement to stay up or beat the fowls. It should be a bare minimum for us.

We got 92 points last year and were a whisker away from the prem. We are now happy to survive as long as we beat a team that everyone is beating comfortably. I despair.

If this team can put together a good run of games i cant see why we wont be in the mix. With the new incomings in Jan Loans going back and us loaning out a few maybe even selling to get some off the books. We are gradually looking better at the back going to a back 4

The goal posts have certainly moved relative to the expectation in the summer after losing the play offs, success was expected through the automatics.

Success has now become survival first and then I’d imagine it changes again to mid table or a late play off push.

The derby win yesterday was a huge 3 points for us and hopefully we can do the double. This would certainly lift our season

Surely if you were to rank 45 seasons of watching us, this wouldn't rank in the top 25?

relegation will only scare me if we are in the bottom 3 with 10 games to go. pointless even saying we are in one now

It would. Most have been spent in the second tier. Some mid table finishes, some relegations and some promotions. 8 or 9 seasons in the 3rd or 4th tier. How many PL seasons in all? Six? Three promotions to the PL, three relegations.

If you count seeing the pigs relegated and doing the double over them as success then it's absolutely one of our better seasons.

The pigs getting relegated is an enjoyable thing, but it's not part of "our" season really. I wouldnt discount a season outright simply for being in the 3rd or 4th tier either, if you win loads of games its still more enjoyable than what we've had most of this season.

We're still in the bottom 3 at the moment so we need to continue to put results together to at least get to some semblance of safety and have something to build on. We don't want to be in this position come late March, early April.

Being realistic, I think hitting 50 points with 4 or 5 games to go would be a decent achievement given the start we've had, the players we've been saddled with and the mountain we've had to climb from the utterly rotten start to the season.

A draw out of yesterday's game or scraping a 1-0 while spending all afternoon defending might not have the galvanising effect of beating your closest rivals 3-0 away from home. Hopefully it's the start of the rest of the season but we've had some false dawns already with a good result at Blackburn, only to piss it away spectacularly in the next 3 games afterwards. The psychological effect of yesterday will hopefully spur them on especially with some important games against sides near us in the table and some difficult teams further up the table.

We've had 2 clean sheets in the last 2 games which is a start with an unchanged team where it appears that CW now seems to know roughly what his best lineup looks like and who he's looking like binning off in January. No coincidence that we drop McGuinness and we suddenly stop conceding.

There also seems to be a logic to who we're signing based on the situation we find ourselves in, with experienced pros of decent character to help dig us out the shit, the sort of thing AI can't sift through.
