BLADES OFFER £1.500.000 FOR KILBANE

Wigan Athletic manager Chris Hutchings is actively bringing in new faces at the JJB Stadium, but a bid of £1.500.000 has just been lodged by Sheffeild United for midfielder, Kevin Kilbane, and it is one probably worth considering.

'Killer arrived arrived at the JJB Stadium on 31st August 2006, for an undisclosed fee (believed to be around the £1.000.000 mark), signing a three year deal with the option of a further year. Nicknamed ‘Zinedine Kilbane’, Kevin, who was Latics' ninth signing of the summer of 2006, only heard of Latics’ interest the day before his signing and had to return from the Republic of Ireland’s training camp to complete the deal. On the same day Graham Kavanagh departed the JJB Stadium for Sunderland, whilst Pascal Chimbonda finally signed for Tottenham Hotspur.

He made his Latics Premiership debut on 16th September 2006, ironically enough against Everton at Goodison, in a game that resulted in a 2-2 draw. By the end of the campaign his Latics record read, 26+5 games played and one goal scored.

Would be a decent signing i think.

Hmmmm I believe he would be a worthwhile addition. But it seem's we are now just being linked with everyone.

Maybe we should just rename ourselves Everton Rejects.

Squinny needs to improve, A Quinn would be out of position, as would Armstrong and Naysmith. Tongey is more suited to middle too, but even then I'd be inclined to looking to drop him.

If we want a good left sider midfielder, I think we should be looking no further than s6, and getting young Brunty across the city.

not a fan of brunt everytime i see him he's lazy and moans when he doesn't get his own way

but he does score free kicks...penaltys...long range belters...

sounds a bit like michael brown to me... (can't be that bad then)

Blades chase Wigan star Kilbane

BRYAN Robson's Bramall Lane revolution continued to gather pace today when it emerged that the Sheffield United manager wants to make Kevin Kilbane his fifth major signing of the most eventful summer in the club's history.

Robson, who is poised to complete a £4m deal for Everton striker James Beattie by the end of the week, is also understood to have approached Wigan Athletic to enquire about the Irish international's availability.

Despite making 31 league appearances for Wigan, including one on the final day of the season when Paul Jewell's side condemned United to relegation, Kilbane is facing an uncertain future at the JJB Stadium following the arrival of Michael Brown and Jason Koumas; two players linked with moves to South Yorkshire in recent months.

But Robson hopes to gain some measure of revenge by tempting the 30-year-old to United with the promise of regular first team football.

Despite insisting that he would only "fine-tune" the squad he inherited from Neil Warnock in May, Robson is pressing ahead with a complete makeover of the options at his disposal after expressing his disappointment at United's lack of creativity during their warm-up programme for the new Championship campaign.

That reaches a climax at this weekend with the visit of Nottingham Forest but while Beattie's arrival has dominated the headlines, it has also provided a smokescreen to mask the former England captain's increasingly frenetic activity in the transfer market.

By his own admission, United's on-going battle with the FA Premier League following the Carlos Tevez Affair hampered the early days of Robson's reign but, having secured the signatures of Billy Sharp, Gary Naysmith and Lee Hendrie, he is now poised to make perhaps his most significant purchases yet after dropping a strong hint that an agreement has been reached with Beattie and his advisors during the immediate aftermath of Tuesday evening's goalless draw at Rotherham.

Although there is still a possibility that Beattie could slip through the net, Robson's claim that only plc chairman Kevin McCabe's business trip to Australia had prevented an announcement being made spoke volumes about his confidence that a breakthrough is imminent.

The match also provided Robson with an opportunity to comment on the areas where United need to improve before August 11th's meeting with Colchester and while probable Aussie recruit David Carney remains an unknown quantity, the interest in Kilbane would appear to be an attempt to solve a problem which coaching staff have identified as one of their top priorities; a perceived lack of pace down the flanks.

More on it in the star.

Got to give Robson credit, he's seen where the squad is weakest and pursued players that are better than what we've got.

He's gone for quality instead of quantity, which is where Warnock was left wanting in my opinion.

With the likes of Naysmith, Hendrie, Carney, Kilbane, Sharp and Beattie we have brought in some quality players for this league and we should do well.

Alan Quinn will have a big part to play this year too, which I'm pleased about because I think he's arguably our best creative midfielder.

Yeah it certainly makes a difference with him in charge.

He seems to making the right signings and there players we need apart from possibly Beattie.

It's amazing the difference in attitudes between the two managers.
Last year we were a Premiership side looking at Championship players. Now we're a Championship side looking at Premiership players.

It'll be my first viewing of the Robson revolution on Saturday so I'm hoping for big things. I'll settle for nothing less than 8-0 ;)

we havn't actually got confirmation of signing Kilbane and Beattie though have we?

Is it more likely than not?

sod them, kilbane is crap, never scores. beattie is over rated. we dont need brunt, just another average player.

We need a center half with pace after loosing jagz and davis.

Morgan + Lukettie = no pace.

I think I could do a job you know if I was fully fit and lost a stone.

I honestly do think I could though fella, you know with training 4/5 times a week. I'm a natural :D

I'VE SEEN POTENTIAL ;)

So do I.......but you don't see many my age playing in the championship.

:D:D:D

He's a lot younger than me.....and i'm better!

:D:D:D

I thought he was 57 too? :D

But yeah, I could seriously do a job, think Robbo should have give me a run in Worksop friendly. I'd have put lucky to shame

and youd be up for the christmas party too :D
