He wants a Killa contract

I think the release fee is probably the stumbling block.

On a seperate note though it wouldn't quite sit right with me if he's earning more than Morgan. I really don't think we'd think Kilgallon is half the player we think he is if Morgan wasn't there to do all the dirty work, organise and lead.

When is Morgan out of contract? A great image on Saturday was when Morgs was getting patched up on the touchline in the first half after an altercation with Hulse. Whilst he's off the pitch we concede a free kick which is going to be whipped into our area. 'Quick as a flash' Morgs re-enters battle, marching towards the penalty area to sort the troops out.

Just think, Robson wanted to get him out to Bolton to help his process of changing the type of player who plays for Sheffield United. Prat.

I hope we offer something akin to that what we gave to Jags, but please make the release fee larger than 4 million please. Please.

He (or his agent) is obviously not happy with what we've offered which, presumably, is in line with the club's budget and what we think he's worth. It's also obvious to all (apart from maybe Silent and Beighton :p) that he's a quality player and a massive part of this team.

We can't be held to ransom by any player and McCabe showed last season with BT that he won't pay more than he thinks a player deserves at a given time so it's difficult to see a compromise. Having said that, any contract will be laden with incentives so if we're looking good by Xmas, league position wise, he may well sign. If we're not, I think there's only one result, he'll be off at a cut price fee in January.

It's all posturing at the moment.

We will offer the best deal we can and then it is upto Killa if that is good enough.

Personally I think he will sign but he would be foolish to not try and get the best deal.
I would think something around the top earners at the club plus a non promotion release clause of £4-5 Million would be somewhere around the mark.

While I never want to push the boat out, I can only think that tying him to a longer contract is a wise financial investment.

Sell him in January for around 2 million, or pay him high wages until June and then sell him for 5 million if needs be.

I've got a lot of faith in McCabe, but I hope there are no heels dug in here. It's not like he'll be a difficult to sell commodity.

The fact McCabe turned down 2 bids for him 2 weeks ago sent out the right signals although we don't know what the bids were.

He sounded happy enough after the game on Saturday and as I say, I think if we're challenging he'll stay and hopefully it's just the incentives / clauses that are causing the problems rather than a big difference in wages.

Heart Says give him what he wants and tie him in for 4 years

Head Says give him what he wants and tie him in for 4 years

And to echo earlier posts, put Morgs on the same.

The two of them wouldn't be the same without the other.

For me Killa is unfinished, but another season or so with Morgs and he'll be one hell of a player.

Morgs for me is an absolute legend...

listening to him saturday on rs didnt sound exactly desperate to stay

McCabe could threaten to have him knee-capped if he doesn't sign.

Just a thought...

One of the best centre halves to play for us in god knows how long, give him the deal and get him signed up.

Sod Morgan unless he comes knocking at the door. Blokes 31 or so and doesn't have too much more in the tank. And as for Morgan bossing things, I would say they compliment each other more than anything. I know we all love a centre half who boots lumps out of people but without Killers footballing ability, pace and tackling Morgan would perhaps be found out more easily. He isn't the quickest and his positional sense sometimes isn't all it should be in my opinion.

I also notice Morgans disciplinary record is better since Killer moved in alongside him. Not being the last man is perhaps working to his advantage? Or perhaps he is just getting wiser with age :)

I think the biggest change in his disciplinary record came after the Hume incident last year. He gives away far fewer daft freekicks round the edge of the box now and is generally a lot more sensible in his challenges.

I seem to remember he was sent off twice in the closing games of the 07/08 season and had made a conscious effort before the Barnsley game to be honest although that incident doubtless calmed him down. He's always been a good defender but has (touch wood) cut out the red mist reactions that spoilt his game and the needless clumsy challenges. A bit like Hendo, his reputation and style often means he's penalised more than he should be but I'm guessing that most if not all Championship managers would have him in their team. I don't think his leadership and commitment can be underestimated either.

just going back to the killa contract but think it was about time the board showed the fans we mean business this year and gave him a good contract to keep him at the club with our squad size this small we should have plenty to play with.

Got to think that agents being agents, he will want to keep things open until the Premiership fog clears.

Good point well put. I can see him at Wigan or the like. He has to be better than Titus Bramble doesn't he?

They did by turning bids down when they could have easily cashed in. I suspect the contract on the table is a very good one.

Don't expect this to be resolved quickly.

It makes sense for both parties to stall this one. Killa will probably be thinking 'if we stay top 4 til Jan I might sign a new deal, providing the £££ is right'. Plus if we are not top 6 and with a shout of automatic in January it makes sense to get a couple of mill for him rather than let him go for nothing during the summer.

Can't blame his for stalling really. He has no ties to United and a player of his quality should be playing in the Premiership. He is apporaching the peak of his career and will not be wanting to play in the Championship for much longer. I really hope he puts pen to paper for us. But I'm not holding my breath. IMO we'll be top 4 in January and hence he could stay.

If (or when) we are top 4 in January and he hasn't signed a deal then it is going to be squeeky bum time again!? :-/

Think Come From Away has it about right. McC said at the fans forum that agents were the drivers behind these things and I'm sure Killa's agent is no different from the others.

The club seems happy enough to make him one of our best paid players, so I'm sure the contact on offer is as good as we can afford.

We just need to hope that -

a- Killa's agent is better than the Kyle's and advises his player's about his longer term career, not just short term financial gain. Be interesting to hear at Christmas time if Kyle N has any regrets about moving to Spurs.
b- Killa isn't another Paul Devlin who just wants to fleece Sheff Utd.

If - at the end of the day Killa's priorities are not about our club - we'd do well to get what we can for him in January rather that having an unhappy and unsettling player in our squad.

Let's hope both sides can see sense.

Bollocks. Killa's distribution is shocking. Take a time to actually watch what he does with the ball after we've won possession back (more often than not courtesy of Morgs).

Since the Hume incident Morgs has improved no end. He is so composed on the ball and rarely resorts to the 'hoof' he was infamously renowned for. As for his disciplinary, it's been mentioned already.

Chris Morgan - best player so far this season and that's coming from a former, diehard, Morgan Basher.

Surely one factor in what we are prepared to pay him should be what its gonna cost in fees and wages to replace him?

St Leger, who for me is an obvious replacement as he is a very similar player was moving for £4m until he failed the medical and Williamson left Watford for over £2m. So its gonna cost a minimum of £2m to sign anyone in the same league as Killa which works out at £10k a week over 4 years, not including whatever salary we pay them!!!!!!

So that means we aught to be prepared to pay him a lot of money to keep together the defnce which has been the bedrock of our performance over the last 18 months.

Ooooh the town has a new Sheriff. I do spend time watching Killer and I don't agree with you. Morgan has improved, but he is 31 and approaching the back end of his career. Killer is 25 and will improve further. Hence Premier League clubs are after Killer and not Morgan. Says enough doesn't it?

31 is not the backend of a central defender's career! He's got a solid 4 years left in him yet; especially since he's never relied on pace.

I think Killa and Morgs have been as good as each other - which is stunning really when you consider how awful they were in the Premier and particularly in that Villa game :(

Trouble with this policy is that once one gets a 'good' contract, plenty of the others will want the same. Suddenly you've got a wage bill that needs 30,000 every week to break even. Get a fish tank for he boardroom as well! :D

I'll bet Killas agent is salivating after the result tonight...

I know he will be telling him "see that performance?" "me thanks you can demand more in your contract matey" .

Killa will have us believe we are a shambles without him and he would be bloody right 3 goals shipped with him missing for just for 1 match!
