On 5 times the money as well. Great aspirational signing if we were doing well but he won’t come near us in the position we’re in.

Not a massive fan of Winks and I don’t think he is what we need. A creative right sided midfielder who can chip in with 3/4 goals is what we need IMO.

I wish it were different, but as things stand there's little to suggest that things will change anytime soon.

Whatever the merits surrounding a player like Winks, there may have been a time when a loan was possible, but his career path has changed and any thought of affording him now is beyond us given our wage limits. Quite simply, we can't afford him, and unless we're able to somehow re-structure our wage bill I can't see us attracting a player like Winks - and all of this includes the Blades remaining a club in the top division. Why would a current England International have any desire to player in a division lover than the Prem?

Would have thought he was 22/23 if you’d asked me. Needs to be playing regularly - would have thought there might be other interested parties for him. Always seems a tidy player (albeit without doing very much)

It wasn’t too long ago he was pulling the strings against Real Madrid and playing for England. Clever player, albeit one that it feels needs to be surrounded by more dynamic and creative players if we want to actually advance the ball. A midfield three of Winks, Berge and [insert talented left-sided midfielder] would be pretty good.

See a lot of Fleck's game in Doyle. He's a bit more manic than Fleck but there's thst same tenacity and bravery in possession.

Lundstram, pffff, which version? The one who put most of his energy into defensive work and late runs into the box was a PL player. The rest of the time he was woeful. I'd say Winks lacks his athleticism but has better quality on the ball

It has Tom Davies feels to it.

What does he actually do?

Davies, 19 league matches in all competitions, no goals, no assists. Get a few like him in the team and you may as well not even iron the PL patches onto the arms.

Winks has also played in 19 league matches in Italy and has also contributed neither to goals nor assists. Sampdoria are bottom and relegated.

Coming from Spurs he’ll probably fancy high wages and they’ll fancy a high fee.

I'm yet to see anything on Winks' game that impresses me. Like Champagne Blade, I'm not actually sure what he does other than short (mainly sideways and backwards) passes.
For what he'd cost (fee and salary) I think there are many better options out there

Not sure a 27-year-old who has played for one club until the age of 26 and then spent a season out on loan can be labeled a journeyman.

Or - more recently, a 27 year old central midfielder who couldn't get near the matchday 18 at Spurs (despite all their problems) this season and went on loan to bottom of the league in Italy, flopped and is now looking for a move.

He'll end up at somewhere like Preston.
