If Choudhury moves in January it will be for his value, not "a reduced rate below his value". The reason there have been PL bids is clearly because the asking price has been reduced to something more realistic.

The reason there have been bids is because Leicester had been willing to listen to offers, because he's about 6th or 7th choice in their midfield.
Because of the injury to Praet, unless anybody stumps up some decent money to put towards the Edouard deal, he's going nowhere.

It's unfortunate, as he would all some real bite to this midfield that doesn't have much at all.

Would love Choudhury, he's the right type of signing for us - but if it's permanents only then we can't afford him. If WBA or Newcastle are in for him then I doubt he'd move here.

We should be looking ahead to the Championship now, maybe Lewis O'Brien from Hudds? Jed Wallace from Millwall?

How on earth our our midfield targets Choudhury and lingaard?

They play completely different roles. To me Speaks to a lack of joined up thinking, do we want an attacking midfielder or a defensive midfielder - do we even know what role we want the extra signing for?? Wilder has already said it’s unlikely we will bring a foreign loan in, so it’s one or the other.

For what it’s worth I think choudhury looks a good player - though I fail to see what adding yet another defence minded midfielder ( to go with berge, osman, Norwood, ampadu and box to box options in fleck and lundstram) adds to the squad. It’s not going to be a match winner is it?

He would have been a useful summer signing but I don't see how he helps now.

What are we going to do with him? Be all the more sure if securing another one goal defeat?

Thing with Berge is that he has the media hype that Choudhury doesn't. He's part of this great Norweigan generation with Haaland and Odengard. I've not seen enough of Choudhury to see what he can potentially become but he played well at the Lane last year I thought.

Let's go for Brentford or Plymouths player of last season then...ffs just enjoy the moment.

Choudury and Berge would be some central midfield partnership in the championship. If our esteemed leader insists on keeping the same formation you could add Fleck on the left of the trio to those two with Bogle right wing back and Stevens or a new signing left wing back.

oh no dont tell me were going with a flat 3 in the championship would sooner go a basic 442 than this again mind even if we continue with 3 at the back surely were gonna go back to 3412

You're getting angry and pointing fingers... because of speculation...

And if true, it makes sense, as we badly need fresh midfielders...(?)

You’d think that he’d look to a double pivot with Berge and an attacking midfielder behind a two. Would be a great base and is probably more likely for us in the summer as we can loan a load of Premiership players and with the parachute payments we’d have the money in place to make those kind of deals happen.

well doesnt look like were gonna change this 3 at the back so if so it has to be 3412 or 343 doubt berge will still be here he might just stick with norwood and fleck as the 2 central midfielders

Good, hope we don’t change it. Evolution not revolution ✊
Of course if we’re to lose these players like Berge it gives those claiming it an interesting quandary. If they’re shit and we’re going to struggle with them in the Championship, then why are other clubs going to pay £15-20 million to buy them?

I’m not getting angry. Like I say he’s a good player. But if it’s true it is very strange and suggests we don’t even know who/ what we need and how we want to use the extra body.

Do we want more creativity from midfield in lingaard or do we want another defensive midfielder to make us more solid? The two I’m afraid are mutually exclusive.

if we can’t get Lingaard as he doesn’t fancy it - why wouldn’t we look for something similar to what he can provide?? I’ve said before we must be the only side in the football league without a creative midfielder, wide forward or winger. It’s a huge gap in squad along with sufficient capable centrebacks.

We need both so they aren't mutually exclusive. These are fluid and ongoing negotiations, and given our situation and the players we're likely to want, they will all have other options. If you only target one area you could easily come up short should circumstances work against you, so you don't limit your options and if you have to make a decision as to which one you proceed once they're all lined up, so be it.

We need someone defensive/tenacious AND someone creative. Our midfield, sadly, are performing nowhere near last years levels.

So I'm not sure what you're getting at really. Seems like criticising for the sake of it.

We aren’t making two signings. Wilder said foreign players won’t come and we only have 1 domestic loan.

So, I’m critical because I think it speaks to a lack of joined up thinking when looking at the squad. We’ve got loads of defensive midfielders - even if they aren’t good enough. We potentially have one slot, so we surely need to decide what we want from that option.

Anyway - it’s probably all moot anyway as I don’t think we will be signing anyone.

If we're going to persist with a flat 3 next season then we really need to be looking for mobile all rounders. Guys that can put a foot in, break play up, keep the ball & carry the ball into dangerous areas.

I don't think we want specialist destroyers, or creators, so long as we can dominate the middle of the park then we have the numbers going forwards (centre backs, wing backs inc.) to make opportunities & the strikers in the box to finish.

Ok fair enough. I'd not seen the overseas loan ruled out. Hardly surprising given the situation in this country, let alone our league position.

It is a shame really. I think a couple of signings and we could have at least made this season respectable. Like you say a destroyer combined some creativity couldn’t have hurt. That said I think I’d have targeted lcb and some creativity, as would have made the most sense in terms of gaps in the squad

think just not picking up any wins until Newcastle basically sealed the boards thinking. Stopping up basically became impossible and they’ve decided to pull the plug - I don’t even think wilder could argue it made sense to throw money at this season when it would only be loans who wouldn’t be here next season.

Yeah. I think, if anything, I'm surprised we're not cherry picking some EFL talent at this stage, given their probable financial issues/uncertainty.

But it's not impossible we're trying to do that. Also potentially EFL prices might be even lower in the summer window.

Like all transfer scenarios, we're just guessing!

LCB obviously a problem, but probably not as bad as the midfield.

Fingers crossed for sudden confidence boost all round after we smash both Manchester clubs this week.

that’s my hope too.

the parashoot payments will arguable be more important than ever in light of no fans etc and the general economy

we at least stand to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond next season and hopefully can get some good deals to supplement the squad next time out. Maybe they will sign someone if they suddenly become available.

As I mentioned before, don't discount the point that next season you can have upto 5 loans which I'd expect to be where we look to gain a significant advantage as Villa and others did when we were in that league.
