At last, the new season is close and it's one where we can hopefully look forward to celebrating with post-match drinks, rather than needing them as anti-depressants! I'm very excited about our signings so far - Wilder's building a team who look forwards rather than sideways and backwards. With one more addition (a Goalcooper!) I think we'd already be in a good position to take on anybody at this level.

As usual, I'll post some pictures each week following our progress, and they will hopefully "paint a thousand words".

Graph 1 will compare our progress against 3 benchmark sets of results. I've taken each match and created 3 sets of results to achieve 3 points totals, which should represent Automatic Promotion, Playoff Certainty and Playoff Possibility. My benchmarks take account of who our opponents are each week.

Graph 2
will compare this season against our last 3 successful promotions (all in second place) from this level, in 2005/06, 2018/19 and 2022/23. These earlier season results are the results from the same game day – not the same opponents. I'd love to watch us come top at this level - as winning the 2 levels below are some of my best memories. Actually, Darlington is a bit of a blur for me (almost a blank actually!).

Finally, I'll post the coloured annotated up-to-date League Table. I always think that this highlights where our strengths and weaknesses are against different quality opponents. I've included the final table from 2022/23 to show how the colours help to understand our pattern of results. I've also included a blank table with my predicted final order for the 24 teams - I'll review this at the end of the season!

Waits for onslaught of people pointing out that we aren’t starting the season on zero points......😂

Thanks for doing this again this season - I love these graphs and comparative league tables, and look forward to their issue every week. Success of the season can usually be measured by how long I spend staring at these every week....let’s hope it’s plenty this time around 👍

Great stuff Graphman.

It feels like the season is really starting when your graphs appear!

Your final table forecast has the Pigs much too high though!!

You’ll have to redo your forecast table now Graphman - we’re gonna be top two now we’ve got our Aberdonian Giant … oh - and drop the Pigs into the bottom three while you’re at it!
