Had a good chat about this with a few pals after today's shitshow.

I personally feel that it'd be best if Wilder departed after the season is over. I feel like we need a fresh face with fresh ideas (and a fresh formation...is anyone else bored of 3-5-2?) to give the club a jump start.

A complete overhaul is needed and I fear that Wilder may tarnish his legacy if he doesn't get it right over the summer. His record on transfers is very 50/50. Fleck, Rodwell, Duffy, Holmes, Norwood, Leonard, McGoldrick, Burke... I'm not 100% confident that he can bring the personnel in to rebuild us.

On the other hand, people pointed out to me that he will know exactly what we need. He knows the club, knows what we expect from a Sheffield United performance and knows how to get value for money (to quote a pal "I trust Wilder wi no money more than when he's got some"). I agree with that to some extent.

We were pretty split on this question so I'm curious to hear what others think.

In regards to 3-5-2, yes I am bored to death with it.

There are pro's and con's.

The pro's to keep Wilder
1: Vast experience, knows the Championship well and has a track record of being promoted from that division.
2: He'll know what the problem is, so is the best person to do something about it. Where as someone new has to start from scratch.
3: Good transfer record with cheapo, underwhelming players, which I suspect we'll be buying.Like Warnock crap record when buying expensive players
4: He's a genuine Blade so obviously cares for the club and genuinely wants to do well, it's more than just a job.
5: Good relationship with the owner and a good speaker/ communicator during interviews.
6: Wilder is a formulaic manager who likes his teams to be well coached and well drilled, so everyone knows their jobs.
So he needs a proper Summer pre-season to experiment and implement a style of play and to divise some tactics.

The cons to get rid
1: Mental damage, this season has been a real embarrasment. You would expect that if we start badly and lose our early matches
then some of the players and even the manager might have a kind of mental breakdown as they might be suffering from a kind of PTSD.
2: Confidence. Wilder's record of late, Middlesboro, Watford and here shows a lot of defeats, maybe he's lost it and no longer a good manager.
3: They'll be more pressure next season and Wilder is more passionate/ emotional, so can show cracks when he's under pressure.

On balance, think we have little choice but to give him a chance...if we're nowhere near the play-offs at Christmas then think about a replacement.

Also pretty sure he'll remain here because the Prince has a track record of patience and doesn't sack a manager until the position becomes untenable.

Yes.

Give Wilder the first part of next season and then take stock. If we looked to hire anyone else now it really is back to square 1 re who they think should stay, who goes, probably a clean slate given to some complete wasters who deserve to be shown the door etc.

He needs to stay and be given a chance to turn it around and build a new squad. I understand others thinking differently though. It not ideal, but I think CW has the hunger to get on with the job and turn it around.

We’ve got no choice. I think I somewhat do. As he’s not stupid when it comes to these things.
It has to be Wilder he's been planning for next season since he got the job 6 months ago it was obvious then we were going down ,hopefully he picks the ones to keep who can fit into the new squad he has to build this summer.

I think with wilder there is a chance he gets some new faces, gets the squad fit with a good preseason and we start next season well and end up mid table.

My worry with new person is they won't be given the budget to implement "their style" and we end up in a relegation scrap.

Our way of working is we wouldn't get a new manager until a week before the season starts...

Anyone who can be in charge for this long and preside over the most abysmal defending (whole team) that I have ever wtinessed does not deserve another go at it.

It is absolutely embarrassing and all who are involved in it should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

That he will be in charge next season is surely beyond dispute, which is a different question to whether he and the rest should be trusted with it. Which is an emphatic NO, non, nein, nej, nee, nao, nyet, nie, nem..... I've run out of ways to say it.

I think he deserves a chance to sort the mess out he started . Worried what players he will have lined up 🤣

The first team coach should not be rebuilding the squad. The first team coach should be trying to get the best out of the players he is given to work with and have minimal input into any decisions that change the line up of said players. As such, it's a clear no

Our best players this season.

BBD on loan 😂 was signed by him.

So his ability to find good players is clear isn’t it?
For balance he also brought in Grbic😂
Oh and Holgate…
Brewster…

Nowt against wilder, I just think we need a reboot, ideally starting with PA, but that’s out of our hands, probs looking for too much, but keeping on the man that’s somehow made us leakier at the back than we were in the 1st half of the season shouldn’t have the privilege to lead us into next season

I think a few need to be careful what they wish for. Probably the same people calling for the sacking of Warnock and Hecky after our last relegations

The question is pointless with The Prince in charge. He is now a ‘silent’ owner who has bitten off way more than he can chew! The value of his asset is plummeting now - and if he won’t sell or manage to get investment, we will be in League 1 inside the next 3 seasons.

So we simply are not going to attract anyone other than Hecky or Wilder who would work under these conditions.

The better poll should be ‘Do you trust ‘The Prince’ to support the manager to rebuild the squad for next season?’……likely outcome would be 95% = NO

Agree that Wilder stays. He is not going to get a pay off for leaving etc, or if he does it will at the expense of money for players etc.
I feel sorry for him with his present squad. He knows that many of them are not premier league, but can’t really say they are crap. He still needs the team to be with him for the remaining of the season etc.

Don't think it's pointless at all.

Unless something radical happens in the next few weeks regarding the ownership of the club, the likelihood is that Wilder will be charged with a massive rebuilding job with little money to spend, in a market where clubs know we're a little bit lax when it comes to paying out on time.

The question is whether you trust him to do that job well, and it's a relevant one.

This is Abdullahs mess. He's had all our Prem money for the last 5 years it goes into United Worlds bank account in Geneva Switzerland & is never seen again. No-one in football will work for him as a Manager. So be grateful Chris is willing to give it his best shot. Have you forgotten he got us promoted 3 times. He's 100 times better than whining Abdullah & his forty thieves. Danny Hall spotted in the accounts our Chairman Giansiracusa got £5 M for advice. He gets a fabulous Chairman salary & never comes. The other 2 board members are Abdullahs daughter & Mohammed Alghadi. Not a very diverse board of 4 for a British club is it. 3 of them live in Saudi Arabia ! ! A sorry state of affairs.

That doesn’t make sense. Firstly your blaming the defenders & squad then wilder? You can only do what your team is capable of so which one is it?
