The season kicks off at home to the U's...

There's no easy games in this league, and this is going to be a tough start. Colchester aren't mugs, they were last season's surprise package in the Championship and they'll will be out to try and set an example just as much as we will be out to stamp our authoritah.

They are with out a few key players now though. Colchester for relegation battle.

Get your boos and whistles ready for Teddy :D

Be happy to get the season started, Lets get off to a great start by getting the three points

Erm... cough cough.

Thread split... this is a forum for football chat only.

Please keep discussions involving Jonny's lack of action elsewhere ;)

EDIT: Like HERE for example...

boooo linz booooo!!!!

anyway... starting line up's?

This will be a tough game but I expect us to battle to a 2-0 win.

Hard to predict a starting line up at the minute, because I think we'll have 3 more players here by the start. Hopefully another centre half as well as Carney and Beattie.

Team for Colchester?

Got a gut feeling it will definetly be a 4-3-1-2, Robson seems to favour this formation, I think it will be something like:

Kenny
Geary Morgan Lucketti Naysmith

Quinn/Keef - Monty - Tonge

Hendrie

Sharp Beattie

Kenny

Geary Morgan Lucky Naysmith

Keef Monty Tonge

Hendrie

Sharp Beattie

So pretty much the same as you Sharpy.

Carney i expect on the bench.

Sharp Beattie

Slightly unfair on Stead who played well dropping off wide yesterday.

The defence I think is spot on and was probably the strongest we saw in Ireland.

Quinn, whilst performing well away has dropped off slightly and it depends how he performs in training as to whether he is even considered, the same with Tonge. I know how much you rate him, but you have to admit, he's hardly got the same impact while he's running across and not forwards. Ahmed Fathi has shown some clever touches whilst played in a wide role, but his crossing sometimes leaves a lot to be desired... Armstrong has also played in midfield and done himself no disservice.

Monty, it depends how fit they believe him to be, but Leigertwood (again, I know how much some people don't rate him) did nothing wrong this pre-season and spread the ball about well.

As I've said elsewhere, Stead and Sharp were the strongest partnership we saw this pre-season, so it depends how well Beattie has been doing behind the scenes. Robbo has said he needs to earn his place, £4 million price tag or not.

Anywho, expect to see Ashmore involved quite a bit this season... so possibly a start on the bench for him?

Basically, I don't know what Robbo has seen and how he can put it together as a team but maybe he'll surprise you with some of the players you might consider as "shit" ;)

fook me thats a strong championship team

Mine would be:

Kenny

Geary Morgan Lucketti Naysmith

Montgomery

Gillespie Tonge

Hendrie

Sharp Stead

with a sub bench consisting of:

Bennett
Stretch
Carney
Beattie
Webber

Going for the diamond Matty?
I do like that...... Although I'm inclined to give Carney a run out on left, and get Beattie in for Steadyyyyyy

Although with the rest of it, looks sparkling :D

I like the diamond idea, I think that Monty getting the tackles in before the back four will give Hendrie his head and allow him to make dangerous runs forward, feeding the front two. Stead can hit the post with his shots and Sharp can run in and claim the rebound ;)

The only reason I would put Beattie and Carney on the bench is due to not having played with the rest of the lads yet, although I would be tempted to bring them both on as subs.

I can't wait for next Saturday! Might even pop into the Golden Lion beforehand!

there are too many options to pick a side!!!!!!!!

lol

Nice place to be though.... better than the piggies.

Brian Laws: "Hello... is that the Dog & Partridge?"

Landlord: "Yes.....?"

BL: "I'm just phoning to enquire about one of your players"

Landlord: "Erm... you mean from our pub team?"

BL: "Yes."

Landlord: "Ooook"

BL: "Your number 29... saw him manage ten minutes the other day... looks handy."

Landlord: "You mean Dave... fat bastard? Went off out of breath because he'd gone for a header. That number 29?"

BL: "Fat? No, he's strong and well built. Made to take on Championship defences. He'll scare defenders shitless."

Landlord: "The only way that lad would scare defenders shitless is if he threatened to land on 'em. He weighs 30 stone and he's 40 years old."

BL: "Oooh, experience, I like it. Can we have him?"

Landlord: "You need someone to fill that shit owl costume?"

BL: "No, we want to make him our new £2 million striker.... He'll set the Championship alight... We'll be promoted by March... We'll..."

Landlord: "Ge'or wi'thee daft twat. You're rambling and anyway, he won't come."

BL: "What ever do you mean?"

Landlord: "He might be old and fucking fat... thick he isn't. He'll win more with us this season... pushing for the Regional Trophy. Thanks for calling Brian.... you prick"

Predictions for Saturday

Team:

Paddy
Naysmith
Killa
Morgs
Geary
Hendrie
Tonge
Monty
Keef
Sharp
Beattie

Score:

3-1 blades win

Intoxication level:

Fatal :)

teddy comes near morgan, well ill leave it to your imagination!

paddy
geary morgs killa naysmith
carney/keef monty tonge
.......hendrie/stead
.........billy bt

3-1

sheringham to score early for them, sharp 2 and bt

i would pick this side:
Kenny
Geary
Morgan
Killa
Naysmith
keef
monty/fathi depending on if monty is fit
hendrie
tonge/armstrong
stead
sharp/ bt

subs:
bennett
lucky
fathi/monty
sharp/bt
shelton

i would pick shelton just for his pace, no one would like to defend against hem at this level, our back 4 pretty much picks itself and i think that we have yet to see the best of fathi, he could be a very good player for us. I also think that stead deserves a decent run in the side after his performances last year. I also doubt cearny is yet match fit, i read somewhere that he had a slight injury.

i don't think tonge would be in my starting 11.

Can't be bothered making my mind up as to which side to play, too many good players to pick from.

James Beattie walked on the football pitch, hoorar, hoorar, James beattie walked on the football pitch, hoorar, hoorar, he scored a goal and that was it, the shoreham street they had a fit, and we all went mad when beattie scored the goal!
