There's plenty to choose from, but what were your real punch in the gut moments of being a Blade?

1997/1998 Deane & Fjortoft being sold was a real sickener and I don't think anyone could put up a sensible argument against Greene & McDonald being short sighted, greedy bellends.

1999 Port Vale at home was a shitshow. Kozluks cross, enough said.

2003 PO Final defeat to Wolves was hard to swallow. I thought we were invincible after the season we had as well as the PO semi vs. Notts Forest. The first half was a horror show and Michael Brown missing a pen was the icing on the shitcake. Dropping McCall and Windass was unfathomable.

Scunthorpe at home 2016 was peak toxicity. I'm guessing the POTY Awards later that night wasn't much better.

All of the above.

I’ll also add Gillingham 4-0 Blades on opening day of Adkins season, not particularly special in amongst the rest of the shite that season but I had high hopes before that.

The Huddersfield and Burnley play off finals, mainly as we played awfully in both - the Huddersfield one being an especially hard one to take as they missed their first 3 pens and we’d brought on ‘penalty specialist’ Andy Taylor, hmm.

This season must rank up there in the horrible season too - so much good work last season and to go from such a high to absolute embarrassment is a bit of a sickener.

Play off final 2003 vs Wolves: My 18th birthday present was the match ticket.

Play off final 2009 v Burnley: Happened ON my birthday

Play off final 2012: v Huddersfield: Another ticket for my birthday, another defeat

2010/11: That season was dismal as fuck.

2009 losing 1-2 to the Pigs at the Lane. It's bad enough to lose a derby, but on hallowed turf it's exponentially worse.

The 1-3 defeat at home to Port Vale was the one home game I missed in 1999/00.

The reason? I was getting my end away for the first time, under a tree in High Hazel's Park, Darnall.

I'd like to think I shot my load at the precise moment Kozluk put that attempt at a cross in, that'd be pretty cool.

Losing 0-5 at home to Oldham January 1988 and McEwan getting sacked afterwards.

Losing to Palace at Wembley in 1997. We had a ‘name’ manager, some decent players, and a chairman who looked like he had a couple of quid. If we’d gone up then our history could have been very different. Instead, it all seemed to misfire from the start and kick you in the bollocks at the end.

Was there a game when a fan ran on the pitch and threw his season ticket in Bryan Robson's face?
Yeah but bizarrely I think it was in a league cup defeat to Arsenal (Eduardo score a brilliant goal)

I mean sure it was crap under Robson but surely being beaten by one of the best teams in the country wasn’t the time to be getting all shoes off in the car park and throwing season tickets at the manager.

Losing to Altrincham, 3-0, away, about 1981. I was there. Embarrassing.
Battle of Bramall Lane, v West Brom, with Warnock. Embarrassing.
BoBL is actually a fond memory for me. For a few years we’d been ‘meh’, when I told people I supported United they’d usually say “Oh, how are they doing?” Warnock put us back on the map and that match was the start of that.

I've given a lot of thought to this and I keep coming back to December 26th 1979.

The FA Cup semi final defeat on Saturday April 3rd 1993 was another low. (next Saturday will be the 28th anniversary. They'll be arranging an open top bus parade around Hillsborough)

I can also remember being pretty pissed off at the Fulham 3-2 defeat in 1968. I began to realise as a 12 year old this would be my first relegation.

Nobody going to mention Wigan at home in 06/07?

Playing a relegation rival at home needing just a point or to better West Ham’s result away at newly crowned Champions Man Utd.

Pissing it down with rain. Made to kick towards Kop first half.

Give away an early goal but equalise. Then a cross comes into our box and our best better thinks he’s playing in goal. Up steps a player we let go a few months earlier and who missed a penalty for us earlier in the season (that if scored would’ve kept us up) to score the winner. He also celebrated wildly IIRC. Only thing I remember afterwards is Danny Webber hitting the post.

To make it even better, West Ham defy all the odds and win 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to a goal from a player who shouldn’t even be playing and relegate us by a single goal’s difference.

If that’s not peak Sheffield United, I don’t know what is.

selling mick jones sept 67 relegations 68 76 79 81 boxing day 79 play off defeats palace 97 burnley 09 40k blades at that one burnley should have won by 4 although the absolute nailed on penalty on kyle wasnt it mike dean ? didnt help with blackwell opening his gob about him week before game 🤨🤨🤨

2nd May 1981. The result that day led to what I consider our biggest humiliation, and in the most Sheffield United was possible. I'm not even going to mention the match as it will just depress me all day.

And 18 May 1988 when we had that relegation play off with Bristol City and couldn't even get past that. Violent pitch invasion at the end and, just to make it worse, Carl Shutt scored the critical goal for Bristol City.

As it turned out, good times followed both those miserable occasions. I try and console myself with those thoughts when I think about situations like this season as even I can't remember a time before when I knew we were relegated in October.

Before my time, but I heard that Don Givens was never supposed to take the penalty, but only did so because the regular penalty taker basically neshed it?

Losing 3-2 at Stamford Bridge
Losing to Wednesday at Wembley
Losing to Palace at Wembley
Half time against Wolves at Cardiff
Losing at home to Wigan

They are the main ones for me. Honourable mentions

0-4 v Sunderland
Losing 6-0 at City
Losing 2-0 at Birmingham and Andy Smith getting on the pitch. We came 3rd that day
2-4 v West Brom

That horror movie poster on front of the Star. TC signing his soul to the Blades with Mephistopheles Wragg hovering at his shoulder.
75-6.
F off Sam and take Samantha with you.
Any and every goal conceded to them, intestinal parasites.
This season.
Many others but don't you just love dem Blades. Warts and more warts.

I think it was John Matthews that went all Jordan Rhodes & shat his pants.
yeah john mathews he lost his bottle think he would have scored anall was an excellent penalty taker think he was offered the ball for the pen but turned his back and went and stood behind other players outside penalty incident sort of sliding doors moment for the club

The 2-4 to WBA was my first ever match if it's the same one.

25th April 1998.
I remember walking up the stairs to the Bramall Lane upper and seeing the entire inside of the ground for the first time. You never forget something like that.

Shit result, but I fell in love all the same that day.

Unforgiveable, I sincerely hope he was mercilessly hounded for that.

I would also say the worst moment was the Don Givens missed penalty. It was John Matthews who bottled it as the designated penalty taker. To be fair to him he did have a good season in div 4. Another horror show was the May 1979 div 2 relegation battle against Blackburn. 3 games to go, Blackburn bottom of the table all season (we had lost 2-0 at Ewood Park a few weeks earlier) a must win game. They were down to 10 men after about 30 mins but we were not able to break them dowm. About halfway through the second half Paul Garner overhit a back pass to goalkeeper Steve Conroy which went out for a corner. They scored from the corner and we lost 1-0. It was then, for the first time that season, that I had the terrible feeling we were going to get relegated to division 3 for the first time in our history. Dark times were to follow.

That's the one. The day Alan Kelly did an early rendition of Lundstrams outfield performances this seasonand cunty Lee Hughes robbed him to score
