Adkins... No better than Clough... But....

.....we have to stick with him, we are down here for another three seasons minimum so we may as well keep some consistency.

Next summer a hell of a lot of dead wood we have been saddled with will be gone, then starts a new two season rebuild... It's gonna be a long long slog.

Because we are dumping about fourteen players at the end of the season and building a new team is a good reason why we CAN dump Adkins as well if he carries on like this.

I would back that. Adkins is proving more and more of his incapability to manage and adapt to different situations.

He's no better than Clough, and that takes some doing.

That's worked so well so far hasn't it.

Just pointing out that because we need to build a new team next season then there is no reason to hold on to Adkins f he carries on with this shite.

New team can be built by a new manager.

I think next season we'll properly see what Adkins is made of. He's not inherited the group of players he clearly expected to. Unless we're battling relegation, he needs to be given a full 3 years.

Ffs some of you are giving me a migraine. In one breath you're saying the team isn't good enough, in another you're saying the bloke that inherited it is at fault.

Words fail me.

Zablade said we need to keep the manager, just pointing out that since we need to build a new team next season therefore the players next season won't be Adkins there is no need for Adkins to be with his boys next season.

If he keeps on letting us rush towards 70/80 goals conceded then he will come under pressure.
Never said dump him just that keeping him to give him more time is not the case as whatever he's trying this season could all be in the bin come the end of the season when we have a clear out.

If it's all in the bin then anyone can build the new team, it doesn't have to be Adkins.

He had 2 options when he inherited this squad.

1 - Sign the right players in the right positions first, and quality one's.
2 - Sign players lacking quality, in the wrong positions first. Then continue in failing to strengthen key areas.

The bad results have a lot to do with his decision to choose route 2.

He shouldn't be able to get away with pointing to the squad whilst his glaring errors that have contributed to it go un-noticed.

What a load of fookin crap on this thread, it is the players that are not good enough and most of them were brought in by Clough.

But the fucker in charge should have know we needed three centre halves in June, we all did.

70/80 goals the target?

Too many players on the books for too long haven't performed. We need to have a big clear out in the summer. With so many out of contract we can finally do it.

He said he could sort it by coaching them and those in the board room yelled halaluya, that won't cost us owt.

Adkins no better than Clough?....lets see....

Change of manager, team stays more or less the same.....

Yep....it's the manager again.
Well after 15 league matches under Clough we had more points than we do now and we were still in the League Cup. And Clough's attacking options were pretty much limited to McNulty and Higdon. So yes, based on results so far you could say Adkins is no better than Clough.

But as I've said elsewhere we need to go up this season and build a second division team.

Building a third division side will set us back years.

I think Adkins' tactics, team selection and substitutions often leave a lot to be desired.

But we'll only be able to judge him properly next season, after we've wasted this one.

Don't you think his signings, or lack of in the areas of most need, have been equally as worrying?

Player for player we should have pissed on Millwall ,poor management cost us today in my opinion.

I have no problem with Adkins but I always thought we should have kept Clough. Clough knew what was needed but I believe he told McCabe he would have to spend some money to get it. If Clough was so bad how on earth did we go so many games unbeaten and was just pipped to the play offs from a dire position in the first season. He then lost McGuire and Coady and couldn't replicate it the following year. So he will have gone to the board told them they have to spend on the defence and lost his job.

So we now have Adkins who has also lost Murphy and not got McGuire and Coady so has inherited an even weaker team, with weaker defenders and less attacking ability. It's not fucking rocket science.

But in Adkins we have managed to get hold of Sharp who is running the top third and have scored more goals more often despite not having last year's player of the year. He is developing Adams and building again.

However unless he is backed by the board, he is pissing into the wind. Good defenders stop goals going in, good midfielders hold midfield and turn defence into attack and create chances, and good strikers score goals. We have one or two good players at this level but the board need to back Adkins if they want promotion and they need to bring in players that will cope in the championship or if we did by some miracle go up, we would be welded to the bottom of the Championship with the players we have.

You were one of the most vocal people wanting us to keep Clough though if I remember correctly, so I belive that maybe colouring your opinion on the current manager a touch. A lot of the problems we have date back to Clough's poor signings last season.

Didn't help that two of our most dangerous players, Adams and Done, had absolute shockers. Done looked barely fit, in fact he kept hitting speculative crossfield balls rather than run at his man.

A few mutterings that Done is not happy in the current set up and it looks like it on the last two home games. Every chance he could be off in January.
