Piss off ,gridlocking the city when there was an extra pint to be had in the Lion and an Pig defeat to wallow in at home after. So many bewildered parents as Tabatha and Benadict carried their duvets in while fat Blokes wearing red and white striped shirts walked past gurning. Good job we won.

Without them.
This city would be Third World.
Love it, but we're so far behind many other cities that it's
now down to the students and the money they bring in that keeps us
just above the likes of Rotherham/Doncaster/Barnsley.

That's a big reason why the Chinese investment is a major key to the future of our city.

Need to set off 10 minutes earlier fella. Tabatha and Benedict are critical to the city's success. You need to get with the times, British steel doesn't clock off at 1pm on satdis anymore

I got a call from a mate battling the traffic to tell me I should set off earlier...

Still didn't get a beer till we were inside... 3points tho..ave it.

Speaking of which and I know this will incite some interesting comments. It's quite well known that SUFC bought up a lot of land in and around Bramall Lane. I am guessing this land may be used when we turn into Little China, however does the football side of operations own any of this land or is everything under Scarborough?

I'll give you 2 guesses

We set off early as the club requested and got to the ground in record time. Reckon it was a ploy by the club to have the fans spend more time and money in the club shop.

You know it's pointless asking that question.

The people who will moan that Scarborough will have bought it will be the same ones who complained that a football club should concentrate on football and shouldn't be building anything like a hotel, for example.

The FC neither has the money or borrowing power to be able to buy land I would guess.

At least they're not building Chinatown near you know where... if they did I would only hope that the signwriter translates "Hillsborough" into "pork chow mein"!

We constantly have one of the highest rates of students staying here to live after university, think it's wonderful that so many people think so much of our humble and unique city that they choose to settle down here.

More than happy to put up with a few irritating hipsters in exchange for the life, vibrancy (and money) that students bring to Sheffield.

Tabatha and Benadict? Don't you mean Lee Ming and Dong Dang?

Do you know that for a fact or is it a myth put about by us smug Sheffielders because Ive been told the same thing by Geordies about Newcastle.

I came into town on the train yesterday and the station was snided with students and the majority appeared to be foreign (quite a few Chinese) I just wondered what the demographic is for accepting students?

Scarborough Group is the holding company, there's a child company called John Street Developments.

I was at Manchester airport in the week waiting at passport control. A plane had just landed from the Far East and was absolutely packed with students. The universities all had reps in arrivals to shepherd them for onward transport.

It's something we're good at, and without it Sheffield in particular would be an immeasurably worse place. Our leaders have been guilty of inward and backward looking habits, and the universities and the people they bring here are our best connection to the world and the future. The development at the bottom of Bramall Lane is that fact writ large.

But moreover, it can't just be me who sees these kids arrive from the other side of the world and admire their bravery and ambition? What were you lot doing at 18 years old?

City by City statistics are hard to find, but as a region Yorkshire has the highest percentage of stayers and given that Sheffield is a major part of the University life of Yorkshire I'd say there was a fair bit of truth in it.

thank the chuff it's student accommodation and not private as the students don't have cars. the parking around the ground would be horrendous if every flats owner had one or two cars.....:(

Funnily enough I've been told by Geordies the same thing about Sheffield!

In relation to foreign students, Newcastle and Manchester, 2 places I'm familiar with, like Sheffield, have huge Chinese student populations.
My neighbour here went on several trips to the Far East in her role with Newcastle University to encourage them to choose Newcastle.

Oh and Tabatha and Benadict, along with Harry an Cressida go to Durham now! ;)

I'd be brave n'all if I had the cash they did.

Friend works in admissions for international students at Hallam. They need to have £30,000 in the bank to be granted a place and have to show/prove this to the Uni.

But labour councillors who have driven this city backwards can rest assured they will be re elected to keep doing it wrong whilst trying to create a socialist state of South Yorkshire.

The only thing worth its salt in Sheffield is its city center football club.

sitters, just think of the Amazon and eBay parcels you'll get to deliver to them;)
