Jack O'Connell is already on 144 league appearances for the Blades.

2016-17 - League One: 44
2017-18 - Championship: 46
2018-19 - Championship: 41
2019-20 - Premier League: 12

There can't be many other outfield players who got to such a number in such a short space of time.

One for the resident stattos.

That only adds up to 143

In all this talk about O'Connell, Fleck etc. we seem to have forgotten the longest-serving of all - Chris Basham. It seems incredible that his debut was under Clough, an opening-day home defeat to Bristol City (1-2) where Higdon (!) scored our goal. How very far we've travelled...

Love that 3 current starters (plus Bill) had the journey with us from League 1.

pS - can add a goal to Fleck for this season!

Enda Stevens is actually doing the best.

2017-18 - Championship: 45
2018-19 - Championship: 45
2019-20 - Premier League: 12

Total: 102

I thought about Tony Currie. His starts were

13 (out of 14) in 1967/68 (the one he missed was cos he was getting married)
35 out of 42 in 1968/69
42/42 in 1969/70
42/42 in 1970/71
38/42 in 1971/72 (missed 4 games recovering from facial injuries in a car crash)

No sub appearances in the league

He played in all our first 18 matches in 1971/72 and the 18th game of that season was his 150th league appearance for us. He missed only 8 games between 26/2/68 (his debut) and 20/11/71 (his 150th)

Jack O'Connell missed 11 starts and made 4 sub apperances

John Fleck missed 13 starts and made 3 sub appearances.

Regarding starts, Jack will not beat Currie's record but if he plays in all our next 7 games then he will beat TC's record if you include sub appearances.

I am not sure if TC is the current holder of outfield players (also maybe keepers) who got to such a number in such a short space of time between his debut and his 150th appearance. I had thought of George Uttley, Willie Foulke , Ernest Needham, Fred Tunstall and Colin Collindridge and checked them but they dont match TC.

Record holder of consecutive appearances is Jack Smith with 203 games between 1935 and 1948 (206 if you include the three games of the 1939-40 season) excluding the war years. Alan Woodward is next with 148 between 1968 and 1972, then TC 136 (1969 to 1972)

Actually, thinking about it.

I bet there are no other teams in England that have 7 current players with a combined total of over 1,000 league appearances.

Sharp also made 2 league appearances in 2004-5 and 51 league appearances between 2007 and 2009. He's now played exactly 250 league and cup games for us.

Maguire was surely quick?
Less than 150

134 league appearances; one as a sub.

2010/11: 4(1)
2011/12: 44
2012/13: 44
2013/14: 41

Interestingly (to me, at least): since his debut off the bench for us Maguire hasn't made another substitute appearance in any competition...except at Hull, where nearly 30% of his appearances were as a sub. Talk about not appreciating what you've got although when the competition is Alex Bruce maybe it's not surprising?

Appearances in all competitions (subs in brackets)
United: 165(1*)
Hull: 58(17)
Leicester: 76(0)
Manchester: 15(0)

I think Gary Hamson is still the only player to have made 100 league starts as a teenager

You could easily be right.
Someone like Coppinger at Donny might spanner it though. What's he got 600 ish? That would mean they only need another half dozen playing in their third season to make the 1k. Still highly unlikely though I reckon.

You can even take Stevens off the list and it's still over 1,000.

So that narrows it down further to six players.
