Hope there's some interest during the International Break. I enjoyed doing it !!

I feel sure the emphasis will change as the season evolves and it will be interesting to note any trends.

I hope it's not all covered in one of those blogs, I'm afraid I don't read them regularly.

A summary of our playing style, purely based on the stats where we are 8th or above in the stat tables:

Long passes.
Through balls.
Crosses.
Corners.
Clearances
Headed clearances
Last man tackles.

Primarily a defensive unit which defends deep in numbers. Break quickly/ relieve pressure with long balls and more usually in force down the wings and crosses the ball as the main attacking ploy. Whilst goal scoring is a problem we are dangerous as the opposition concede many corners which are unproductve unfortunately. ( no stat available but I think we've scored 1 goal from 51 corners).

Looking at these makes me think we need a PL-standard set piece/corners specialist, put away our corners and that goal tally will go up big time.

Strikes me that we have the 3rd most crosses and the 4th most corners. McBurnie wins an amazing number of headers to clear the ball in defensive situations ( see my other stats thread). He also wins loads of aerial duels around the pitch. He scored one great goal from a cross and showed at Swansea he knows how to glide the ball into the net with skillful headers. We also have Egan and O'Connell competing for corner crosses

We need to join the dots when attacking. What can we improve?

McBurnie is 6th in the whole of the P.L. for Aerial Battles Won.

He's 27th for Headed Clearances!!

Given the huge cheer of expectation when any team wins a corner ( though perhaps statistically a bit misplaced) I think to be 4 th on corners is a huge credit to our attacking pressing. Probably why we are not seen as just a good defensive side end of. Surely we can and should chip in more goals corners. Egan in particular looks the man for the job with his performances for ROI. Got to be a coaching priority and CWAK will have got this.

Tackle, win ball, pass it to teammate a couple of times, dribble, shoot into net, goal, repeat.

Only statistics that matter.
