So Hawkeye is fallible. Fair enough, it was never going to be 100%.

But VAR? NGE.

The Guardian report says:

"United players celebrated what they believed to be an obvious goal. But the referee, Michael Oliver, waved play on, dismissing protests by pointing to his watch to indicate it had not buzzed to confirm all of the ball had crossed the line. Moments later the referee blew for an infringement against Villa – and that brought an end to the passage of play, which is why, according to the Premier League, the decision was not allowed to be referred to VAR"

I don't understand why that means the decision was not referred to VAR?

Its ridiculous that VAR couldn't be consulted with and whatever they say VAR is, and has proven to be unreliable and not full proof. Therefore bin it off and lets just keep goal line technology - oh hang on a minute!?

All the ball has to cross the line.
Quick pass this to the ref to carry off at the end of the game67E9AA15-50C6-4ED1-9F3F-03C3A9EA1FEC.jpegB216F221-DE92-42D5-8BE5-872F75956A2E.jpeg

So every goal going forward it will be double checked on VAR, because the refs now know it’s not infallible, but just not for us. If the ref had known this he would have checked it.
Whatever way they cut it, it’s a fucking disgrace but it’ll be forgotten about because it’s not one of the traditional top 6.

Let's be honest, no one would be talking about it if the pragmatic thing had been done and been checked by VAR where they rectify the "clear and obvious" error.

But they will be sticking like robots to the absolute rules (like they did for fleck vs City) and they will no doubt come out and say "VAR is legislated to be used for goal line decisions".

Its ruining the game because some clown I charge doesnt have the gumption to see the bigger picture which any reasonable football fan would agree with.

The ref could have given it at half time.

The premier League is fucking corrupt end of!!

Let's face it we were not only playing villa but the biased ref, VAR, hawkeye and Sky commentary. No way we're we going to win. VAR needs to be binned it was brought in to remove mistakes, it failed.

Why didn't ref review it at half time?? Its a goal pure and simple.

its a shame we don’t have any examples were they spent 10 mins going back over play until they could find a toe nail offside to rule a goal off side

bet that’s not happened

So your photo clearly shows the ball over the line with no clear obstruction to the camera that took that particular photo .......... but the 7 official Hawkeye cameras couldn’t for the first time in 9,000 matches.

You just couldn’t make it up ?!
🤬🤬🤬

I'm amazed Hawk-eye hasn't failed more if they're giving the reason that a goal keeper, a defender and the goal post got in the way, who'd have thought that they'd be a goal keeper in his goal, a defender nearby and the goal post! Makes me think we need a ref stood just behind the goal if its going to fail as badly as that. Or, as others have said, it just wasn't on and this is the excuse. Very odd.

A good job for the PL no one was watching this mistake.

So Hawkeye view was obscured, VAR didn't question it, and Michael Oliver wasn't made aware at the time that Hawkeye couldn't judge it?
You could tell with the reaction of both teams that it was a goal. Oliver should have asked to see the pictures. You can bet your life they wouldn't let this happen to man u, man city, spurs et al.
